I placed my order by phone and as usual, couldn’t understand what the male person on the other end was saying because he talks so fast and mumbles. I had ordered Orange Chicken, was tart. I then asked, if I had wanted to order extra sauce how much would it cost. He said it would cost $ 3.00. I really didn’t want a whole container, just one of those little ones! Oh well…

I catered some items through this restaurant due to it being near Ho’omaluhia Botanical Garden for my son’s birthday. I also decided to pick them because their prices were reasonable and competitive to other places. I called a week in advance to get my order and it was ready for pick up on that day on the time they promised. I ordered chicken katsu, fried noodles and a couple of pounds of marinated chicken to BBQ on our own grill. All food was tasty and everyone enjoyed it. The katsu also came with a tub of katsu sauce.

Great Restaurant, Great Food, Great Price. And to make it even better, every time I got a family party, I cater with L&R Drive-inn. Must try restaurant if your in Kaneohe side and want to grab a quick bite. Favorites: Spicy Eggplant & Mapo Tofu :)

L&R is a hidden gem in Kaneohe. No joke, if you’re on this side of the island, just make a stop off Kam Highway and take a detour for lunch or dinner. Support local! I called ahead for a take-out order – even though I was way earlier than the lunch crowd – but I didn’t want to have to wait. It seemed like it was a one-man show – I only saw one worker during my visit – but there were only two parties dining in when I came in to get my order. The restaurant interior isn’t spic and span, but it’s do-able if you’re dining in. I’ve definitely been to grungier places, and the booths and tables seemed clean enough. A friend who lives east side recommended this spot to me as one of the best, when it comes to cheap plate lunches. I read in a couple reviews that the katsu here rivals that from L&L. Being that I actually really like L&L chicken katsu, I was curious to see how the one from L&L compared. If I’m ever out on this side of the island again, and am craving some plate lunch and don’t want to spend much, L&R would be my go-to, hands down. Here’s my take on that chicken katsu: «Chicken Katsu Plate»: You only pay $ 7.85 for a regular chicken katsu plate(compared to $ 9.40 at L&L), and the portion size is comparable. My Styrofoam container was cracking under the sheer weight of the katsu, rice and mac salad. Each regular plate features two scoops of rice, one scoop of salad and your entrée. They definitely don’t skimp on the portions here. The katsu featured the same golden brown exterior that was perfectly crispy, and the succulent, juicy, chicken interior … it totally reminded me of L&L. The katsu sauce was slightly tangy and had the ideal, thick consistency that I so enjoy. I didn’t finish all my rice, but the mac salad boasted creamy goodness. I would definitely order this again, hands down. It was amazing! «Fried Mahi Mahi»: If I didn’t order the katsu, I would have opted for this fried mahi mahi. I do love a good mahi, and I’m betting this version is fresh, tasty and moist. Mahi is all about moistness, so I look forward to trying this entrée one day. «Fried Rice with Any Meat Combo»: I prefer fried rice over regular rice, so I would opt for this combo if I felt like being a bit fancy. You can get any meat with this upgrad, except for the New York steak. I would probably go for the mochiko chicken, garlic chicken or chicken katsu, if I couldn’t deviate from something I know and love. I’m curious to see how L&R makes their fried rice.

The best fried rice ever, who would ever guess that this hole in the wall makes a mean fried rice. The rice is fresh, served steaming hot and has all the right ingredients. Food for thought buy their fried rice and then drive across the street to K.J.‘s and order their checkin plate.

Your typical greasy L&L wannabe local plate lunch place. No wow’s here and you can expect the standard fare. I had the fried mahi mahi with fries and that was good. Good prices.

BADATTITUDEANDHORRIBLESERVICE!!! Just went to get breakfast from here. I totally understand custom orders r a pain in the ass! Asked if I could do a 3egg plate n have 2 over easy n 1 scrambled. If he had said no, then ok. But LONGPAUSE umm hello u still there? Hello? Finally«hello.» With all kinds of in frustration in his voice. He repeated it. Ok yah that’s what I want. Then I proceeded to order another plate bacon n eggs s/o toast. Again no talking nothing. I think he hung up on me… didn’t give him my name or anything. I cruise in smiling. A young man walks up to ring me up. I tell him I’m the phone order. He rings me up n it’s like $ 28. Whoa. For 2 plates? Still smiling towards him. I know it sucks n maybe he did get confused. He tells me yah u oadah 4 plate! I ask u n u say yes. Umm no I ordered 2 n repeated my order nicely.(Still caging my inner bitch) He rolls his eyes shaking his head. He starts to charge me accordingly still throwing mean kine fuck u vibes n mad stink eye. I tell him r u seriously giving me attitude for that? He then says well I ask u… never mind it’s ok. NO! It’s not ok. Give me my money back! I don’t have to deal with this! I’m going somewhere else! WEWENTTO P&L DRIVEIN. WEGOTAWESOMESERVICEANDBREAKFAST!!! Never going to L&R again! Ty for turning me off with ur horrible service!!!

The cashier walks around wearing the same blue gloves wiping tables handling money etc. Doesn’t wash his hands then touches the food?

Upon searching for places that served dishes without meat in observance of the Catholic Lent we decided to dine at a place that we had not visited in over 2yrs. This place has a similar menu to that other place with almost the same name L&…you know which one. There are some variations and amazingly enough some dishes here actually tastes a lot better, like the seafood saimin. Served in a light broth with shrimp, fish, and a jumbo scallop, this was our Lent qualifying dish for tonight along with a mini shrimp curry plate. Never thought that Lent fasting could taste so good! It’s almost a sin! Portions are genorous and prices are very reasonable. Think I’ll have the garlic shrimp next.

I happened to come here because I was in the area grabbing lunch for the psycho from Kin Wah and I was planning on getting something from Masa & Joyce but they were closed :(…because they went surfing lol. The prices are very reasonable here, less costly than L&L and the food tasted a bit better. I ordered a mini chicken katsu to go. It took about 8 minutes for my food to be done. The food was good but there was alot in my plate and i could barely eat half of it which is odd lol. This was my first time coming here and I’d probably come back if i was in the area again. — Service isn’t the best. Not the friendliest people work here — Prices are good — Food is good Best chicken katsu I’ve had in a long time :)
