I have to admit, every time I’ve been here is with my mom and stepdad and it’s always been free because they like to play some slots. We always end up getting 3 orders of prime rib and it’s always been consistently good. Over the years their menu has changed several times. I remember at one point they had a lot of game on there like alligator and snake. It’s much more basic now but they still do things well. The house salad with the parmesan ranch is really good. They also make a decent manhattan. I don’t really gamble so I only come here when my parents take me. If you happen to be at the casino I think it’s a great choice but I don’t think it’s worth a trip.

The prices are just too high, sure the food is great, but not that great. Unless 49.95 for a 23 dollar steak seem fair

I should have submitted this review earlier, but after reading a very negative review I felt I needed to add my input regarding this restaurant. I frequent this restaurant quite often and there have been occasions when our steaks were not at cooked as ordered, but these issues were quickly rectified. My husband ate there last Sunday and we both had the prime rib dinner along with calamari as an appetizer. Everything we had was prepared properly. Our food was arrived hot and promptly. Christina and the other wait staff were very attentive. There are better steak restaurants in town, but The Great Plains Cattle Co. is on par with many of them.

We had a very average meal at Great Plains. Not good, not bad, not memorable. But, the service was fantastic(Joey, if you eat there, ask for Joey) and it’s clearly the best restaurant available at Ameristar. I would say we got an average meal in a very comfortable atmosphere. There’s nothing wrong with this, but I do expect more when I am walking into a steakhouse. We ate at Great Plains at 7:30 on a Friday. The place was humming, easily 75% full if not more. But, we were seated almost immediately(they just had to clear the table off) in a very comfortable large booth near the bar. Joey immediately approached to take our drink orders. He recommended the calamari appetizer, which we ordered, and I noticed they had something called sriracha spiced candied bacon. I like all of those words, so we went with that appetizer as well. Prior to our appetizers arriving, the gratis bread basket arrived. I included a picture, but I’ll be honest, neither one of us had any bread. We were there for steak, not rolls. So, no idea how this tastes. I may have missed an opportunity to have the best bread ever, but I doubt it. Additionally prior to the appetizers arriving, we were served our first bottle of wine. It was room temperature, as in nearly, but not quite, warm. Both bottles we ordered were red and neither was close to the proper temperature. I am guessing their«cellar» is too hot. The wine list is very short, but very reasonable regarding price. That being said, if I were to return I don’t know that I would get red wine again. It would probably be a whiskey dinner. The appetizers were both strong. The calamari was typical, it had a nice breading and was fried well. The sauce was different, it was a nice departure from regular cocktail sauce. And, it was a large order, easily enough for 4 to share. The bacon was fantastic. It’s 4 pieces for $ 6, and it was as advertised: sweet with a kick from the sriracha. My only complaint was the bacon is served COLD! Cold. Why not at least put it in the same room with the wine to let it warm up some? If this was served hot it would have been fantastic. But, it was not. I would get it again and ask that they somehow heat it up. It was the best dish of the evening. To eat, I went with the prime KC strip, the only prime selection. You get your choice of salad and side, and for the salad we went with Great Plains’ house salad, served to share with their parmesan ranch dressing. The salad was fine, the dressing is above average and appropriately named. For my side, I went with the au gratin potatoes. The steak was cooked more medium than medium rare, but it wasn’t so overcooked to warrant sending it back. It was very lightly seasoned, if at all. It was a good steak, but just that. It was $ 50 and I would not say it was worth that price, even with the side dish. The potatoes were fantastic. Very cheesy but not at all greasy. They had a crispy top that could have used a couple of additional minutes under the broiler. Overall, this is an average steakhouse meal considering the prices they charge. I’d say it’s a step up from Outback. I would return, but I certainly wouldn’t seek this place out.

A group of 8 of us went in at 7 and it took 40 minutes to get our drinks then they were out of the special, lobster, and New York strip steaks. After another hour of waiting out steaks came out and all 8 were warm at best and all the sides were barely warm also. When the waitress stopped by we told her the problem and asked to speak with a manager. Vince was the manager and all he would say is he wanted to make it right but refused to cook us new steaks all he would do is offer to put our steaks on the grill even though that would make our medium steaks on the well done side and not what we wanted after asking him to take them off the bill he said he could not. So in all my wife and I paid $ 180 for appetizer two alcoholic drinks and steaks that we could not eat and were there for a little over an hour and 45 minutes. We spoke with another manager outside the restaurant and she assured us that someone would get back to us to resolve the issue right away and a week later still no word from them. Vince was an arrogant chicken $&@” that didn’t even enter that side of the steakhouse again until we left. I will never eat at this restaurant again and the hotel and casino have lost a lot of business because of this experience also.

One of my favorite steak houses. I like to get the filet mignon! Call ahead for reservations and ask to sit by the fireplace. It’s a great date location. Don’t forget the Crème brûlé for dessert.

Had a great dinner. I ordered the brick oven chicken, very flavorful and tender. Bread is good, I loved the one with the raisins. Nice little selection of wine. Good salad also.(Order your dressing on the side) I noticed many people said there was too much on there salads.

— atmosphere: sophisticated yet warm. A nice place to dine with friends. — service: the service was nonexistent. Our waiter rairly came by our table or the other 2 in his area, but hovered over 1 table all night. But he did make sure to stand behind the manager when he came by to ask how things were. Shmuck. — reservations: this process went smoothly and they had a table ready right on time. — food: they really do know how to make a meal. Very good food. Their salad though was drenched in dressing. — price. About $ 20 — 50 a plate So how do I rank this… Great food, but meh to horrible service. I have to ask myself, «would I go back? Would I recommend?» The answer is maybe… So 2.5 stars.

I really didn’t want to like this restaurant. Mostly because it’s in a casino and I don’t like casinos. We went here on a whim and everything was great! The service from everyone was fast and courteous. I had the crisp pork shank with mashed potatoes and carrots. The pork was the perfect blend of crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. It was so good! I had leftovers and was so bummed that I forgot them. The ambiance is dark and rich. Lots of wood work, huge tapestry area rugs, and a large fireplace at each end of the main dining room. It feels like the lodge of an exclusive Montana dude ranch(disclaimer: I’ve never been to an exclusive Montana dude ranch, but this is what I would imagine it to be). The chocolate desert was delicious! It was some sort of tort, mousse layer cake. I kinda wish this restaurant wasn’t in a casino, or at least that it was in a casino closer to us. I’m tempted to go back.

Best aged steak anywhere! Just wish this was a stand alone restaurant, instead of being inside of the worthless, corporate ameristar. Friendly service and good experience.

My husband and I ate here for the first time and I must say the steak was delicious, as was the family-style salad although that was a *bit* overdressed. The bread basket was kind of average and I think a relish basket or something along those lines would be nicer. I had a 7oz. fillet and roasted red potatoes. As I mentioned, the steak was fantastic, the potatoes were well-seasoned but would have been better with some butter on them or gravy or something as they were quite dry. Still a tasty(albeit, expensive) meal! A nice treat if you’re in the mood for a good steak and tasteful atmosphere.

As someone that never frequents steakhouses I have now reviewed two steakhouses, hmm, maybe I am not the best to person to review them since I don’t really enjoy eating steaks or meat all that often. So as you read further into this review, please keep this in mind. I had met some local and out of town family at the Great Plains Steakhouse for dinner one Saturday night, the experience was fine. It is a steakhouse in a Kansas City casino, the food was decent and for 8pm it was not overly crowded and the wait was not long for a group of 9. They had a nice selection of steaks on the menu, were any of them good, I couldn’t tell you. My dining companions seemed to enjoy what they ordered and the majority of them ordered the prime rib, large cuts of marbled, fatty, bleeding meat, hmmm, yum. I ordered the Shrimp Scampi, it was just okay, somewhat overcooked, the shrimp were very large though. Several in my party ordered the salmon and seemed happy with the decision, the highlight of the evening was the baked sweet potato side my father ordered, it was the size of my forearm, I have never seen potato so big. They have a nice wine list and prior to dinner I did have to wait for my companions to show up and enjoyed a good martini at the bar. Would I come here as a dinner destination, probably not, but if I was at the casino again and my options were limited I would maybe give it another try. Not a veggie friendly restaurant though, probably very easy to discern with the word cattle in its name.

The food is excellent. The steak was melt in your mouth tender and cooked properly. The shrimp scampi was wonderfully seasoned and cooked correctly. That said, the service from Steven was, well… meh. Steven, the waiter, had friends sitting at the table behind us. He spent most of his time chatting with them to the near exclusion of his other tables. He did come around twice — once to slam a bowl of limp, soggy, over dressed salad on the table and then a hasty retreat back to his friends, and once again after our meal was concluded — by which time our drinks were empty(and had been for a bit) and we just wanted a to-go box and our bill. By all means, go for the food, but pray you don’t get Steven on a night when his friends are also dining.
