I must admit I have avoided the West Bottoms, probably because I don’t love the«hype». But I love vintage and antique stuff and my friends kept raving about the stores down there and showed me some of the stuff they picked up, so I thought it would be best to go with an open mind and see if I could find anything cool. I love the vibe of Hickory Dickory. It feels like the type of place you want to hang out in. Tons of cool stuff in each booth. A simple layout and good prices. I saw comparable items in here priced 40%-50% less than other stores. They aren’t under priced here but priced for the correct value. Where other stores must think crowds necessitate over charging for stuff. While it was insanely hot out, the flea market outside is a pretty cool aspect and definitely a different option from other stores around.

In general, at this point I’m pretty burnt out on the whole first weekend in the Bottoms«antiquing» thing. To me, it has just gotten too large and too overrun with things that aren’t in my taste. However, Hickory Dickory is one of the very few shops that I am still happy to shop in, as I think they have some of the most interesting and unique items in the area. While some of their vendors are of the«shabby chic», new stuff that looks like old stuff, or painted furniture variety(ugh, ugh, ugh), thankfully the majority of the items here do not fall into that category. In fact, more often than not, I find several pieces here that I really like, and we’ve bought both large and small items from this shop quite a few times. Plus, there is a small(enclosed) beehive here in the upper room, and you can buy fresh honey on site, which I personally think is pretty cool. On our last trip in, we scored an awesome stained glass mirror that is in great shape, for a price that was more than reasonable. The staff that we interacted with were friendly and efficient, and happy to let us store our new purchase safely in a back room until my husband could go get the car and pick it up. You won’t find me in the Bottoms very often anymore, but when I am down there, you can guarantee that I will make a stop in to Hickory Dickory.

This place is now my favorite first stop for First Fridays! The pieces are diverse and unique. Best of all, they are actually priced appropriately… unlike some warehouses down the block. The staff is very friendly and enjoy talking to you about the pieces, which I find interesting. Their selection is similar to a lot of the other warehouses in West Bottoms, but not so overly finished or über shabby-chic. They put nice finishes on their items but without pushing a particular design agenda. Also, for those who don’t do well with stairs, they have only a few so it is more accessible. Love it! Can’t wait to go back!

Hickory Dickory, aptly named after its location on Hickory Street, has nothing to do with mice or clocks. It’s a lovely West Bottoms shop that has grown into its space over the past few months its been in business. Its quality merchandise is similar to the other shops in the area — crafty, kitchen-y, home-y, antique-y, vintage-y — but this shop is nice because it’s on the small side and is confined to one and a half floors; foot traffic flows pretty well in this one. The presentation is superb and the shop has cozy lighting. A fairly quick browse with a quite a bit of stuff to see, Hickory Dickory a treat to look through.
