Self-declared philly fan here, so I’ll come out right now and say I prefer Pat’s to Geno’s. Sonny’s Famous Steaks might still be the best in Philadelphia, beating out Pat’s or Geno’s in quality and portion size. Anyways, so what are Kansas City’s offerings to compete with The City of Brotherly Love? Let’s list some of the dedicated offerings for philly cheese steaks in the area: Pigwich — 4 out of 5 PepperJax Grill — 3 out of 5 Philly Time — 3 out of 5 Steak’M Take’M — 2 out of 5 The Lunch Box — Unrated, untried as of this review Some other notables would be Grinder’s, Chartroose Caboose, and Minsky’s. So where does Jersey Boyz fall among this list? Right on top. It edges out Pigwich in the home-made quality and taste. It is a bit worse in terms of pricing and volume. A lack of alternative sauces and sides can become a hindrance as a daily lunch-place. The flavor of the cheese-steak’s, cooked to perfection every-time, is something that rivals Philadelphia’s better offerings. Jersey Boyz would be a few places below Sonny’s, the meat doesn’t have the same flavor and the lack of cheese-wiz isn’t traditional, yet the philly cheese steaks here are unique. The lack of marinading the meat in it’s own juices may be one of the biggest differences, but at least everything is fresh which is not a guarantee in Philadelphia. The fries are notably home-made, hand-cut, and fresh. The seasoning is the same as Tay’s Burger shack down the road, this similarity is due to both restaurants having the same owner. The pricing of the philly’s tends to be decent, but they are not as stuffed as PepperJax. The other subs are a bit expensive, even at 14″ of sandwich. For my fellow philly fans: Go and try a Travolta. It is a wonderful heart-attack of a sandwich. The cream cheese helps even out the taste of the beef, while the hot pepper cheese and red vinegar sauce(that comes as a side) balances out the richness of the cream cheese. The Sinatra may be the most traditional of the offerings, yet the Pesci’s American cheese seems to do well complimenting the beef’s savory flavor. Each sandwich is relatively customizable and can be doubled in meat and cheese for those folks who are hangry with a case of the Mondays. The staff is friendly and respectful. Most seem to have great knowledge of the menu, which helps when choosing the varied selection of sandwiches and philly’s. The location’s parking is in high-demand as it is located on Armour road in a store-front area. The seating is relatively bland and the decoration is not as appeasing as Tay’s down the road. The hours are relatively limited for at-night dining so don’t plan on having a drunken philly. While the menu offering is drastically different in many aspects, I find the unique philly cheese steaks here to charm my taste-buds in a way nothing else in Kansas City quite seems to do, so this gets a Kansas City five star. In a direct comparison with Philadelphia’s offerings, I’d say this falls around a 4. 1 – 5 Ratings, Overall: 4 Locale and ambience: 3 Friendliness: 4 Food: 4 Price: 3

I eat here all of the time, their fries are phenomenal. The owner is awesome and they also opened the burger place on Armour that is fantastic as well

Where do I start? This place is amazing! I ordered the club sandwich with Jalepeno mayo, red wine vinegar, oil, salt and pepper, and it was nothing short of fantastically delicious. My girlfriend ordered just a basic chicken cheese steak and she ate it all, which by the way, is something she doesn’t do often. We are from Maryland and this is the best sub shop either one of us have ever been too. Kansas City is known for their Barbecue, but this little spot will easily make you forget that. Great little place to eat if you are looking for something different! Chris was extremely helpful, also! Thanks Chris!

This place makes some great sandwiches. The staff is great and seem to like where they work. Had the travolta and no complaints. Find some of the previous ratings extremely misleading. Would recommend to anyone trying to avoid the ordinary.

I stopped in for a quick lunch one afternoon. I used to live out south and we frequented the Jersey Boyz in Stanley as our kids grew up. Either I’ve lost my memory completely, or they have different menus at each location. I recall a variety of specialty sandwiches like the Bob Special(other than the cheesesteak sandwiches). Anyways, I settled on a turkey and cheese sub. The drink fountain machine was out of order so I was forced to purchase a bottle of water(they said they had no way of just giving me a glass of water), so that was a waste of additional money. The sandwich was just ok, the biggest disappointment was the bread. It tasted and looked like store bought bread. The restaurant did not appear or smell very clean. When I tried to sit outside at the nice tables they have along the storefront, there were two teens standing in front of the store smoking. Overall it wasn’t a pleasant experience. When I went to the restroom before leaving, I found the ladies room full of some type of large canisters(I believe maybe for the soda machine) and there was no soap or paper towels, yuck. The worst news is that there were two girls working behind the counter that day, now my sandwich really upset my stomach.

I thought it was just ok. We bought a Bön Jovi for $ 6.99 and a Sloppy Boyz which was $ 7.99. Two small bags of chips were $ 2.58. with our bill was $ 18.75 plus they leave room for a tip so I gave them a couple of bucks for a total bill of almost $ 21 for lunch. It took almost 20 minutes to get our sandwiches and they weren’t that busy. We happened to be off work so it wasn’t a big deal, but it would have been difficult to get our sandwiches during a lunch break from work. The sandwiches were fine, but they are not anything unique or remarkable. I think the price point is a little high for what it is and it just took too long for a lunch sandwich. The place is ok, I probably won’t go back. it´s not in my neighborhood and it’s not worth the drive to get there.

Whether you’re looking for a quick bite or high quality sandwich, Jersey Boyz won’t let you down. I highly recommend the«Travolta» philly. The Philly cheesesteaks that they have to offer are extremely taste friendly! Having grown up in a restaurant, I can say their Philly is the best I have had in a LONGGGGG while, if not the best I’ve ever had, which I never normally say. The cream cheese is their key in the Travolta. Also note: YOUMUSTORDERFRENCHFRIES… The preparation and seasoning compliments the whole meal itself. If you’re looking for a warm hearty lunch, this is the place to go.

Just an overall good sandwich place. If you’re a Philly fan they have several options. I have been several times and would go back when the mood strikes me

The food was average and over priced, after I’d been told«it would be worth it» the cook blasting and singing R&B slow jams in the back was a bit annoying after awhile, but I think the waitress must have noticed I was basically having to yell my order so she turned it down, just 1 notch.

Within walking distance from work, I ventured out to grab a quick bite and landed here. I decided on a sloppy boyz with wheat and fries. Sandwich was alright, I’m not sure what all was in it besides the slaw and meats but it had a bit of a funky after-taste following every bite. Coworkers of mine stood behind their fries as epic but I found them to be just average.(You get a BIG serving size though!) They were heavily seasoned but I didn’t find them to actually have much flavor at all. Will be trying their subs in the future since it seems to having a following!

Horrible horrible horrible. The only good thing I can say is that the man taking my order and who made my sandwich was awesome. This is the DIRTIEST venue I’ve ever been to. I went to the restroom while waiting, and wished I hadn’t. Filthy. The tables were not clean, napkins strung out all over the place on them. The floors were gross, food droppings every where. Needless to say– I will NOT be back.

I may be a little picky about my sandwiches. Not saying there’s anything«wrong» with them but I find the turkey to be a little salty and there’s too much bread. And it’s not very soft bread at that. The staff is nice but the store is kept a little dirty… which probably deters people from coming here. The pasta salad isn’t the best but when you need a quick sandwich for lunch, it’s not a horrible choice. There are better places though, I just don’t know if they’re quick and around NKC.

I had ordered the Travolta with fries and a healthy free water. We were the first in the door so we didn’t have to wait in line to order. The staff was friendly and our meals came fast. My Travolta was steaming hot but darn delicious. The cream cheese is just a weird ingredient to put in this sandwich but some how it works and works flawlessly. It’s flat out yummy, I guess that’s why it’s their #1 sandwich for 20 years. The fries are nicely seasoned and good. My coworker ordered the sinatra he said it was really good and the peppers gave it that nice little kick but nothing overwhelming and said it was a beautiful combination of ingredients. I will be coming back to this restaurant again. I just need to make sure I get there before 1115 when the lunch rush starts coming on.

I don’t know why I waited so long to try this place out! I think I was confused by the chain Jersey Mike’s and just figured this was another sub place. Very wrong! I ordered the Travolta which is one of their specialties. Now it wasn’t my favorite philly ever, but it was the best one I have had in KC. It was hot and juicy and they mixed the cheese up with the peppers and beef which is my favorite(versus just throwing it on the top). The price was good and the philly was made to order so it was nice and steamy when I got it. The place looks tiny, but has a decent number of tables and seats inside(including a very small back area). It does take a few minutes since they are made to order, but it wasn’t a long wait by any means. The pasta salad looked really good. I will get that when I come back and I will 100% be back!

I can’t believe there were only two reviews before mine! Jersey Boys has been in this location for quite a few years. There are a lot of options for weekday lunch and Jersey Boys is definitely in my top 3. I almost always get the Belly Buster or one of the cheese steaks. The sandwiches are always good, and more than enough food for lunch. The fries are excellent, always HOT, crispy and seasoned with a kick I have never seen on any fries elsewhere. Parking can be a bear on the corner of Swift and Armour so remember that there is a back door to the restaurant that you can get to from either farther south on Swift or Erie through Town Square Park.

Stopped here for an impromptu lunch while I was running an errand and I’m glad I did. There was a line, which is a good sign, and the location was filled with guys in suits. I ordered the tuna sub special, ½, and an order of fries. They also have a veggie and a cheese sub for non-carnivores and the menu says you can customize anything, so hooray for them. The wait was about 10 minutes, but there were plenty of people ahead of me and I didn’t call ahead, so that wasn’t bad. The sub was tasty and fresh and big. I’d never finish a whole sub. The half had me stuffed all day. I also ordered the fries, which were seasoned and wonderful. Really good fries here! I’ll be back and picked up a delivery menu with high hopes for those winter lunches where no one wants to go outside.

It was pretty awesomely good! I ate lunch here with a few of my associates from work and I’m glad I did! I think it was good to change it up every now and then from my regular«routine.» It’s just too bad I didn’t have my DSLR camera; otherwise, the pictures uploaded would have been way better obviously. I asked what was their most popular cheese steak and it turned out to be the Travolta($ 6.39). I didn’t see right next to it in super faint coloring that it said that it was the #1 seller for 20 years. I ordered a soda(I think $ 1.19) and fries($ 1.79) with my order. The total came out to $ 9.99. The one thing about the Travolta that I’ve never had before in any cheese steak I ate in the past was the cream cheese. I don’t think I’ve ever ate a cheese steak with cream cheese in it. My order took awhile and my associates were already almost halfway done with their food. Of course, they were eating pretty quick since we were all hungry. When my order was called(they call your name that you give the cashier), I saw that I had way more fries than my other associate. It looked like they emptied their last batch of fries on my order which was fine with me. More bang for my buck. lol Don’t let the size of the cheese steak deceive you. I’m not saying I was full after I finished it but the cheese steak with the fries filled me up just right. My cheese steak tasted great! I hardly noticed the peppers in them so don’t think it was hot because of the peppers. The fries had some kind of spices/seasoning on them because they were pretty good. They also had subs and sandwiches which I’ll have to try later. I was about to make a cheese steak list back in California but I never did. I think I might make that list here in Missouri… that is once I try out more cheese steak places.
