I love M&M bakery. You can smell the fresh donuts and pastries being made. I go there for my usual turkey and egg sandwich in the am. And for lunch the tuna sandwich. Oh I can’t forget the cinnamon roll ! It so good

M&M Bakery and Deli is literally a nice corner neighborhood shop to go for a breakfast donut or a sandwich for lunch. When I visited the place, it was close to lunchtime so they had their deli counter line going which I didn’t try but I probably should have too. Anyway, I wanted to try some of their donuts(in hindsight, probably not the best time for donuts as they aren’t freshmade by then). This place specializes in raised donuts like long johns, bismarks, bear claws, apple fritters, and of course the classic glaze. I picked up a couple glazed and one apple fritter. The glazed donuts were fairly good sized for $ 0.85 each and had a nice sugar glaze to them, though these might be even better in the morning when they are freshmade. I could be the office hero if I brought a dozen to work. The apple fritter was very good and big. In fact, the biggest one I’ve had in town. Again, I think it would have been better in the morning as it might have been a little more of that crispness to the outside. They also have cookies and apparently bagels if you go there early. There was a lady in front of me that asked about the bagels and they have them available at 6:30 am and they sell out by 7 am.

Well, I may have just found a new very favorite place to eat in Kansas City. It’s the antithesis of fancy and foodie, and that’s just fine. Here is where you’ll find just plain good ol’ fashioned deli sammiches, except that they’re extraordinary. I got the Hook ‘Em Up and it’s as good as everybody says. It sounds so simple-peppered beef and turkey ham with pepper jack and the standard veggies on an onion bun. But if you substitute honey mustard for yellow, something magical happens between the heat of the cheese and meat and the sweet of the pickles and mustard. In one of the greater demonstrations of restraint I’ve ever displayed, I saved half of it for lunch the next day. Now, the deli is only half the attraction here. When you walk in, the aroma of fried pastry wraps you up in a warm loving hug. And these folks are not fools-the cash register is at the pastry counter, so you’re standing there with donuts and cinnamon rolls looking you in the eye as you wait to pay for your sandwich. I couldn’t resist, and got an apple fritter, and it was as good as I’ve ever had! As good as the food is, I can’t say enough about the atmosphere and the people here. At straight up noon on a Tuesday, the line reached the door. It was fun listening to the chatter of locals and workers discussing what to order and all sorts of other subjects. It took awhile, but the two women behind the counter sliced everything fresh, and greeted the regulars. The gentleman at the register apologized, unnecessarily, for the wait, and called me «Beautiful». It doesn’t get any better than that!

This place is not fancy, but the bakery is excellent. Pecan cinnamon rolls and delicious large cookies! The deli has excellent hot sandwiches. Don’t worry about visiting this exceptional business off of the Bruce R Watkins and 31st, you will be welcomed! Friends of mine have had the owner bake their lemon cakes and other cake goodies and the price is right! Try this place, you will like it!

I must say that my first time to M&M Bakery and Deli was wonderful! I don’t care that the ambiance is «divey» of Unilocal,I love the old ceiling and stuff! I loved the«Hook Em Up» sandwich! With the honey mustard and the wonderful sandwich, I am going to toddle down the hill and get more sandwiches! I love the apple fritter, the cinnamon roll and the two cherry cheesecakes. I am coming back to get happiness! I knew I was in the right place when I saw so many in line! I know WHY everyone is there! Yummmm!
