Poor and sad. Completely disappointed and insulted. For the price, get your service together. Otherwise, be a cheap diner with all your poor excuses. I have eaten here often enough since I was a kid with my parents. This is my first time dining here as an adult with my friends. I have never felt so insulted before. A party of 16 with birthday dinner reservation. Nearly everyone had arrived… and waited for 40 minutes before we were able to take our order. Hungry out of my mind and not the only person who felt that way, one of my friends asked, «Can we make our orders now?» –The server let us know, «No. we want to figure out how to split the checks so that it wont be so complicated later» — After waiting another 20 minutes, finally, our server came to take our order. I persisted to tell them which entrée I wanted, when I was RUDELY told, «Oh we are ONLY taking appetizers right now.» –I have been a server before at different corporate restaurants/eaten at hole in the walls as well as 3-michelin star restaurants… and never in my life have I been rudely declined to take my order… yet again a second time. THEN… another ten minutes went by when my order was finally taken. By that time, I had already filled myself up with the bread and my friend’s appetizers. My food was great, but I was full. My server tried to remove my half-full plate without my asking. I stopped him and let him know nicely I was still working on it. Then, a check came to me with two other girls orders whom I don’t know personally at all… I let the waiter know. How embarrassing that I had to discuss with the strangers next to me that I did not want to pay their bill. Then, the waiter said he would get it fixed right away. We had our cards out ready to pay. We waited another 10 – 15 minutes while nearly all guests left. We looked around for our waiter, didn’t see him… and the restaurant was not busy. We went up to the host’s stand and asked to see a manager. Then, we went back to our table to see if maybe the waiter was going to come. After seeing that he wasn’t there and walking right back to the front of the restaurant, two of the girls were getting upset and had places to be and left. The waiter finally passed by me, he acknowledged me, and I stood milling around next to him to see if he even remembered that I had been waiting for a check. But he said goodbye to all of us, so I persisted to leave at that point with the people who I arrived with carrying a lot of things. I had stood right outside with my friends, talking. the waiter stopped me outside to embarrassingly tell me I hadn’t paid for my check. And I said, that’s fine I’ll pay it but I also need to speak to the manager. She explained to me their POS system sucks and it was complicated and took a long time. I however have worked for restaurants before and know that it can be complicated to split checks… but there is no excuse for the rude and strange service I received previously… and the manner that I was treated… and even in the end, how the manager was not apologetic toward my side only toward theirs. I am very sorry that my parents supported this restaurant and took us here as kids… and that I ever held them in any high regard. I opened the check. What a surprise – My tab was wrong AGAIN. I only ordered an entrée, no alcoholic drinks. Ridiculous. She said, «We can fix that for you» … I said No, let me just pay you cash – I’ve got places to be and people that are being held up yet still. She said it would be about $ 23 with tax. I could not morally or principally leave any more than $ 23. It would be a spit in the face for anyone who actually earns their tips. It might say something about me that I took the time to write about this. But I take pride in all of my work, and even when I was a server… I really cared about my customers. Such a nice restaurant in the Country Club Plaza should NEVER… NEVEREVER treat customers this way. If you kept doing this to people, YOU’D BEOUTOFBUSINESS. I’m a very nice, forgiving, and understanding person… but this time, I feel no remorse in leaving a one-star. You deserve it. And then, they went to tell my best friend… the birthday girl… that she needed to pay for the tabs that the girls walked out on. I get it, you guys are a restaurant, a legitimate business and need to cover those. For all the people who did pay, you could have comped those. Especially since it was YOUR fault. You guys really should learn how to have done it correctly in the first place. Because those girls who were going to pay for their tabs… they did NOT intend in any way to dine and dash. They waited. And waited. Looked for you. And then got so upset they left. So… I’ll be sure to tell my parents never to eat at your restaurant ever again… and any of the highly regarded business people I know and associate with. Save them the trouble of dealing with such a poor establishment.

After a week and no response from corporate on their website, I have decided to let everyone know of my poor experience with McCormick and Schmicks here. First let me tell you I have eaten here numerous times always pleased with service and the food. I have always enjoyed this brand in other cities such as Denver, Portland, and San Francisco. With that said, this was a disaster. When the hostess found out we had three children with us, we were immediately sat in a dim corner by the service door to the break area. From there, we asked if they had fried oysters as they were not on the menu. After 15 minutes and 4 people, the answer was to buy fresh then have those fried. By the time the answer came, my father decided on a cup of chowder. When drink orders were taken, I ordered the fried calamari. 15 minutes after that the cold greasy calamari finally showed up with the cup of clam chowder. While I am quick to take action, my wife gets embarrassed by me expecting high quality food. Another 10 minutes and we get some great warm sourdough bread, 6 pieces for 7 hungry people usually is not enough so I immediately asked for another bread round which showed up about 10 minutes later. Are we counting yet? 50 minutes for bread appetizer and drinks. 15 minutes later, the waiter brings the kids meals that looked like they sat under the heat lamp for 30 minutes. Thank goodness for this because I could have prepared what was served quicker and better quality in the time allotted. Keep with me here. We got served our food about an hour and 30 minutes into our service. My mothers seasoned salt was served with fries and 5 pieces of shrimp jerky. My shrimp trio was more like a shrimp butter platter. My wife’s mahimahi was as dry as you could cook the fish without calling it jerky. My father however was hungry and had no complaints. By this time we were ready to leave and the waiter asks if we would like desert to which my statement was, I will go somewhere else for my BIRTHDAY desert. Poor poor poor on all levels. Are you listening McCormick and Schmicks? You are losing lifelong customers who refuse to patronize your establishments for poor food, mediocre service, and people who don’t care.

My husband and I celebrated Valentines here this weekend and had a wonderful experience! We had a reservation and were seated right on time. Sitting beneath their beautiful dome provides a wonderful atmosphere. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. Most important — all of our food was delicious!

Enjoyed our dinner very much. All main courses were very good. We did order oysters and drinks in the bar before dinner in the dining room and was not happy with the hour wait to get drinks and oysters!

We go to this fine establishment once a year for our new years dinner, and it is always a wonderful experience. The décor is elegant, The food and service is always the best. I would not recommend you go on the weekend, because the wait to be seated can take a while.

This place was good but slightly overrated. I had heard nothing but rave reviews about McCormick and my boyfriend and I were finally able to actually afford going there during Restaurant Week. The service was great, our waitress was very nice and quick. But the food was just okay. My salmon dish seemed like it was imagined up by a fourth grader because it had walnuts, mushrooms, and raspberries. The salmon itself was decent but all the garnishes not so much. I’ll be back once I win the lottery.

A very elegant and classy establishment. From when we walked in to until we walked out, we were treated with impeccable service. Their crab cake is so mouth watering and fresh it’s to die for. I would recommend this establishment to anyone as it just became my new favorite place to dine.

Save your money. This place has really gone down hill. Our service was horrible and the manager was arrogant and condescending. Took my wife there for her birthday. I called 4 to 5 weeks ahead of time and the staff assured me there would be a 3 pound lobster there for her. I called 3 to 4 other times before we left for the restaurant. Each time the incompetent staff assured me, no problem. Guess what, when we arrived there, No Lobster. Our waiter screwed up every order for a table of five. The woman manager should not even be allowed around customers. She came over and started accusing me like I did something wrong. The staff there acts like they could care less. We will never be back there and I will make sure that all our friends hear this. It was one of the worst restaurant experiences we have ever had. Way over priced also.

I’ve been to McCormick & Schmick’s in LA, Chicago and other locations. Typically decent. Recently visited their location on the Plaza in KC. Horrible! The marlin they served me and my son was very overcooked(dry and rubbery) most seafood restaurants would never have sent it out of the kitchen. They messed up my wife’s order terribly and then when they returned after 5−10+ minutes with a now overcooked steak, everyone else at the table was done. Never once did they offer a discount, a free desert or any accommodation. Nice location, If you have other options and are looking for good food, don’t go to this place, Bristol a consistently better choice.

I have been known to make the 4 hour drive just for the lobster bisque and the bag of chocolate. Both are extremely worth it. I had to take off a star because the server last time was not very attentive. They were very punctual when seating us according to our reservation time(we only waited 2 mins). I tried the casino swordfish on my last visit and was very pleased. I still consider this place my favorite restaurant.

My family & I came in for Christmas Dinner — it was FABULOUS!!! We had so much fun earlier in the day then decided to skip the cooking and go out to eat. McCormick & Schimicks was one of the only places open and had zero tables until 9pm. We arrived around 6pm and were lucky to find a seat at the bar. Hillary our bartender was AMAZING! The entire staff was warm, friendly and in the holiday spirit! The service was on point and food was delicious. We’re thinking about making this a family tradition for Christmas b/c we enjoyed it so much!

I don’t write many reviews but felt I would because my wife and I don’t get a chance to get out often without our kid, so we were super excited to go to a restaurant we’ve heard so much about. Let me start with the beginning: We had reservations at 9 and upon arrival the atrium was filled with people just to check in to our reservation. When getting to the front the hostess was incredibly awkward when asking for my name and reservation time. She then explained they were 30 minutes behind, which we completely understood, Saturday night at the Plaza. While waiting, I people watched for a bit and it appeared anyone who had complained got seated immediately. Also I’m not sure if she was a host, or a manager, but the lady with tight pulled back hair in a bun, argued with multiple servers, to the point that it was noticeable. When they finally called our name we had to track down the hostess because she couldn’t find us even though we were sitting at the closest seat to their stand. The dining experience: Waiter was super nice and engaging, made recommendations for steak and seafood so we ordered one of each. We selected the ribeye and swordfish. They were cooked through nice but both of us felt they were massively under seasoned. We ordered a bottle of wine and the wine girl was the best part of the night. It tasted great and she was extremely nice and had me taste it before we kept it. The red pepper mash was cold and had to be delivered separately because it wasn’t brought out with the food, they actually put green beans which we didn’t order because we have an allergy to them. I ordered foie gras butter for the steak and while it was okay, at $ 5.99 was a little pricey for okay butter. Again we really enjoyed conversation with the waiter, the only issue was we never received a red bull we ordered, but he took it off the check with no problem. We passed on dessert because at this point our check was over $ 130 and we discussed what we feel upscale service was and the beginning was so strange, and the food wasn’t good enough to make further purchase. I probably won’t return, although the chocolate bag looked fun, because it didn’t have the comfort feel we were hoping for on our only date night.

We went for our anniversary last year. The food was great. The service was exceptional. Our waitress was so knowledgeable it really helped us with our choices since it was our first time. She knew it was our anniversary and took extra care of us. My boyfriend got the shark and he loved it. He talks about it all the time. We will be back

The turkey dinner for thanksgiving lunch was SO good. The trout was good too. And we had the best waitress Elizabeth. She took our picture and showed us her daughters picture

I always enjoy coming here with my gal-pals for our periodic luncheons. Being on the Plaza is touristy and fun and the atmosphere is elegant without being stuffy and pretentious. The staff are all very polite, professional and friendly. I had a wedge salad which they substituted out the blue cheese for feta because I don’t like my salad having the aroma of socks someone has worn for several weeks. I also had the mac&cheese which was interesting. It was rigatoni with a cheese sauce with shrimp and Andouille poured over it. Not really my idea of a mac & cheese, which is baked, this was more of a pasta entrée with a white sauce poured over. It was delicious and I would order it again, but it is not really mac & cheese. Our group shared the Chocolate Bag for dessert and it was decadent and obscenely delicious. A box fashioned out of chocolate and filled with White Chocolate Mousse and Fresh Berries and Topped with Whipped Cream. If you like seafood, and I do, this is a nice venue to enjoy seafood. I also LOVE their menu of fresh oysters from both coasts. They also serve a wonderful Oysters Rockefeller.

Horrible experience!!! We had bad service last time but this was crazy. We showed up and sat outside. Waitress came and gave us water. We wanted some wine and had trouble getting sample. Ordered oysters, half hour later never came. Ordered wine, half hour later, no wine. Waitress running around, not sure what she was doing, just kept coming by bringing glasses and crackers. We wet there 45 minutes, no drinks and no food. Got up and left!!! How do they stay in business?

Very disappointing anniversary dinner. Service was extremely slow, the A/C was broken, and the food was bland. With that being said, the food is extremely overpriced and I would have expected better food presentation and service for the price.

Unless you’re going for happy hour, don’t bother. The food here has really gone downhill. It’s just… not good. The service is always top-notch but this place is not worth the price. There’s a lot of delicious food in KC, including seafood. It’s just not here.

Dined here with some friends during restaurant week. Sort of an odd visit I guess. The wait staff didn’t know what kind of beers they had on draft, and told someone I was with that they didn’t carry any Boulevard beers. Ten minutes later, we found out they did(?) — I had a fish meal with potatoes. the fish was delicious, definitely needed some salt/seasoning, but good flavor. The potatoes were a little under cooked and still pretty crunchy. The temperature of the food left a little to be desired. luke warm at best. For dessert I ordered the Crème Brulee. Maybe I am mistaken but I was under the impression this was a dessert to be served warm.(?) — This was ice cold. Straight out of the fridge/blast chiller sort of cold. The highlight of the meal was the oysters we ordered as an appetizer, amazing oysters, fresh and tasty.

I want to start this off by saying I have only been here twice and only for the Chocolate Fruit Bag. With that being said I love this place so much when I go. I keep meaning to eat here and I will definitely update when I do. For starters I love the plaza, its a pretty romantic place when it wants to be and McCormick & Schmick’s does a great job of pushing that classy, romantic image. Leading up to the establishment is a pretty hefty set of stairs, and walking up to the front entrance you pass through their outdoor seating area. All of it is laid out pretty elegantly and it appears to have decent amount of space between each table. Some places try to cram as many people into a location as they can and I didn’t get that feeling here which is a big plus in my book. I am willing to pay a little bit more and have some arm and leg room. The menu does look a bit on the pricey side, but what I go for is strictly the Chocolate Bag(the menu lists it at 12.99). If you go on a date on the plaza I recommend coming here for the desert. The chocolate bag is easily a two person desert and could be shared among four if you don’t everyone’s silverware dipping into the same pile. It is a hard chocolate fortress filled with cream and fresh fruit. The combination will have you craving more even if you are full and the beautiful decorated dome ceiling provides a wonderful atmosphere in their bar area. If you want major brownie points, take her for desert here. You wont regret it.
