Love the store but their hours online are incorrect so call ahead. Just drove 20 minutes to find out they are closed.

I always get in trouble here. I will have so many projects going on at the same time that it’s ridiculous! Michaels has good customer service and a nice variety of items. However, it is one of the smaller locations but im happy that it is here.

Came here last night to look for Valentine’s Day crafting goods and found a few… Everything they had was on sale but I unfortunately waited too long so didn’t have much of a pick of things. Overall– Michael’s always has what I’m looking for within reason and they offer good coupons/sales.

I find myself in this store for the occasional work-related project. In the past I have picked up items like glitter, fabric glue, fake fruit, scrap booking stickers and felt. What can I say, sometimes my job is… weird. The store is well organized and clean. The staff is friendly, if occasionally hard to find in the early-afternoon weekday hours. Be warned, this place can also be a time and bank account suck. I always find myself wandering the aisles thinking about all of the things I «need» to make. Maybe I’m a closet/wannabe crafter. Today I was in with a dilemma. I needed a custom-cut matt and fast. I caught Rob from the framing department with his coat on, on his way out the door for lunch. He asked what I needed and put his lunch on hold so he could help me with my order. When I told him about the turn-time, he found time to take care of it that day. He did a great job on the matt and I’ll have it for tomorrow even though I managed to put my project off until the last minute. He saved the day!

With the controversy about Hobby Lobby’s owner and CEO I feel better shopping at Michael’s for my craft and art supplies. Not much I can say that Becki didn’t cover in her exhaustive review of this store. I agree with most of what she said and think Michael’s makes a good complement to Hobby Lobby more than a replacement. Still, since I’ve been shopping at Michael’s I’ve been to Hobby Lobby just one time. This is one of my favorite places to shop. I joined their free rewards program and often get discounts of $ 5 on purchases of $ 20 or more. Usually your receipt will get you reductions on future purchases, but those have to be full-priced items and those are hard to find! Always lots of things on sale or highly discounted. I’ve gotten some great deals of photo frames where I really could not believe the prices. They have a good selection of traditional art supplies and canvas as well as markers and art sets. Plus they have lots of holiday decorations that you can either make or buy already complete. The store is pretty large and a bit confusing at first but after a few trips I can find just about whatever I need or want quickly and easily. I’ve had to wait in line at checkout a few times — not for too long — but the checker’s have been really helpful and friendly each time. A great addition to the Zona Rosa neighborhood.

This is the new Zona Rosa location and I’m so thrilled to be the first reviewer! WOOTWOOT! I’ve been waiting for them to open and have been twice since they have. I’m a big crafter and needed some place new to placate my artsy personality other than HobbyLobby. Upon entering you see that it’s very clean, organized, well lighted, it even smells really good. Everything is well organized in each of the various art genres. They also have a craft room between the entrance and framing department where they do kids crafting sessions and apparently you can host a crafting party there as well. So all that equals positive points, moving on. Some of the aisles are broken into smaller sections, meaning, you have to abruptly weave in and out instead of taking your time down one long aisle. I don’t like this much, it made me a bit motion sick. This pertains mostly to the neighboring textile craft, raw wood and baking sections, the latter being two of my hobbies. The baking section is great, and I actually prefer it to HL despite the funky aisle set up. Loads of confections and accessories with much more selection and different brands than HL. They have Wilton candy melts in every color, HL carries a different brand with only the basic rainbow of colors. I saw neon green here. They even have a Duff Goldman section, which is awesome. I anticipated doing a review so I made a point to meander thru every section. Overall the selection does seem a bit more high quality and in some sections, more plentiful than HL. Tho, I was looking for some small .5oz empty squeeze paint bottles for my baking and after searching the whole store, I found none. I do know HL has these, so that was disappointing. Their framing section was really great, and seemed the pricing was competitive to HL, if not better. The jewelry section looked well stocked, tho I admit it’s the one section I didn’t look closely at. They have a great painting section, with the spray paint on lockdown. I get why they do this, but for the trouble of getting someone to come over and unlock I’ll just continue my spray paint purchases at Home Depot. Scrapbooking seems to be the biggest section, and I have to admit it was an impressive selection just with the albums and the paper, let alone the stickers. I’m not a scrapbooker tho, so take that for what’s it worth. Floral was ok, HL trumps them in that dept by far. And aside from some t-shirts and tulip paint, there is no fabric/sewing section whatsoever. I don’t know if this is common with Michael’s or not, but it’s a deal breaker for me nonetheless. While Michaels boasts a bit more high quality items and name brand like Duff and Martha Stewart, I can’t say that it’s your one stop shop for crafts if you are someone who crafts across the board. After my little tour I know what I can and can’t get here, so I will only be back for specific things. They do have a members card, which I have and have turned out two 40% off coupons already, which I’m stoked about. HL pretty much equals this as they normally have 50% off sales regularly in almost every department… so that’s a wash. I did get a raw wood shadow box at Michaels and I’ll be using my coupons later to get two more. HL doesn’t have these in their store at all, so really, it comes down to which store has one or two unique items you might need or want. At check out my second visit it was a Sunday afternoon(a plus and a one-up on HL, open Sunday) there was one check out lady and a huge line behind me. She was also taking calls making it that much slower. By the time I got up a second checker showed up, looking all flustered. So perhaps staffing is still being figured out. I wasn’t in a hurry, but it’s still not comfortable waiting like that, especially when she has to answer the phone too. So all in all, not terrible, not so much an alternative to HL, more of just an additional option. Go in and have a look, depending on your craft(s) of choice, it might be for you. But, Michaels will be a secondary craft store for me.
