This remains my favorite hidden gem in KC! I’ve taken to trying anything they have on special and have never been disappointed. Some days the special is a Mediterranean chicken wrap, the next day lasagna. Everything is hearty, yet healthy, comfort food made with really fresh ingredients. Their dessert display has so many delicious, simply treats like carrot cake, banana bread, pumpkin bread with thick cream cheese frosting. You can just tell so much love goes in to all of it. Nice people, too. I can’t think of a local business more deserving of our support!

Update: The housing authority has rented a large portion of this building and some of the building entrances are now locked. This does not make it easy to get to this coffee place! If you either walk around the building to the entrance with a revolving door, or enter through the garage you can get to the coffee shop.

I love Mildred’s. Some of the best chicken salad in the city. The pot roast and curried chicken are outstanding. Super friendly staff and high quality food.

Good for a quick meal. Soups, salads, wraps, sandwiches, etc. Always fresh ingredients, great breads, very nice staff.

I’ve had it three times and have never been less than totally satisfied. I’m really surprised it’s not far busier than it is. My normal is the vegetarian hummus sandwich, which is just loaded with hummus, tons of vegetables, and sunflower seeds on DELICIOUS bread. And a tip for those who get this vegetarian sandwich: have them put guacamole on the other piece of bread. WOW! It’s literally a Mom & Pop shop(they’re usually in back), and the staff members are always awesome. Can’t wait to go back.

Lucky for me this Mildred’s location is close to my work and lucky for them I eat here more times than I am willing to admit. The food is great and very affordable and the staff could not be a better group of people. The menu has a great mix of options and the desserts are always changing. If you want one of the specials(which usually go fast) you should call ahead or try to go before noon.

Mildred’s is a great place for breakfast/coffee/lunch for the downtown work crowd. It rarely gets very crowded, prices are reasonable, and everything is made in front of you. The sandwiches are very good and they use quality ingredients. Lunch usually costs me about $ 7 as long as I stay away from the dessert bar.
