I was really looking forward to trying out Power & Light Grill. I had received an email from one of the owners(a KU grad) about it and even went online to check the Unilocal reviews which were all favorable! Unfortunately I left disappointed. I got the Royal Dip b/c I had read that it was amazing! It didn’t have a ton of meat on it. I’m watching my carbs so I started by just eating the meat and dipping it in the au jus sauce. The meat was pretty dry. I did have half of the sandwich the«normal» way which made it a little better, but you should have to dunk your sandwich in juice to make it moist and not dry. The sweet potato fries were ok, but could have been cooked a little longer. My friend had the Urban Legand Burger. She got the roasted jalapeño corn relish on the side thinking it might be too spicy — it was tasteless. There was only one server(and about 2 – 3 other tables). I kind of felt bad for the server b/c she was obviously the only one on the floor(also answering the phone). She never offered us refills on drinks(one way I determine good service since I’m always thirsty… and my water glass was empty!). I wish I could give a better review b/c I was really excited to try a new place.

we stopped here for lunch with a coupon. the mistake we made was stopping for just lunch, or just having 2 people in our party. normally when we get one of these we have to spend $ 35, just like we did here, but normally we have no problem getting to that point. we had to order extra food to hit the mark. the good part about this though is the food is good! i got a burger that was nice and tender and had good toppings on it, with mashed potatoes on the side that were nice and slightly lumpy but not too much and had good seasoning. boyfriend got this steak thing, the zou i think, that came with mashed potatoes and a side salad. we each got lemonades, split an app, his entrée was $ 10, mine almost $ 9, and we were around $ 25 so we ordered some chicken fingers and some pizzbread things for later that night for a snack, and they did not dissapoint, they could have given us more chicken fingers, but for an app portion they were good. my only problem was that the waitress didn’t really ever check on us except once, but someone else, i think the owner, did too, and we really didn’t need anything so thats not a big deal. plus it wasn’t busso we could have easily gotten her attention. another thing that i liked is that the owner/manager introduced himself by name when we came in. oh yeah, and when my burger was ready they broguht it out even though boyfriend’s stea wasn’t quite ready yet, which i apprected over a cold burger or him getting an underdone steak

While I was very tempted to stop and eat at one of the street food stands that were right across the street, I heeded that desire and popped into P&L grill. I ordered a chicken sandwich with BBQ sauce, grilled onions, cheddar cheese and bacon. On the side, I had sweet potatoes and additionally, had a Boulevard Wheat. Woah-bam. It was fast. Tasty. Sandwich came a good classic soft roll bread. Hot. I would come back again. Prices were OK. It looks like they have a decent happy hour. This is a nice lunch addition to downtown. Beer selection was mediocre. They need some better stuff on tap for it to become a regular for me.

I just got delivery, and I’m impressed! The delivery was on time and the driver(who may have been the owner) was friendly. The pizza was thin crust, rich in flavor, and delicious! They don’t skimp on cheese at all. It’s slightly salty, which I didn’t mind but one of my companions was a little bothered. Another companion got a burger and loved it. The only complaint was slightly tough bacon. The breadsticks could use a little more flavor but are good overall. The one letdown was a chicken sandwich that was underwhelming for the price. Breakfast is available all day, I’ll have to give that a try next time.

When Tarantino’s shut down, I was really disappointed that I never had the chance to go. I happen to drive by this corner often so I was really excited when I saw that work was being done. Every week, I’d slow down real slow to see the progress. And then one day it was open! Located on the edge of the government district, it’s a great place to go if you work in the area. It also has the feel of a neighborhood joint. It’s certainly not a dive, neither is it upscale. I haven’t seen what it’s like before but I’m not sure that much has changed. Present is that old brick wall and the feel of an old Italian joint. I like it but it really makes me want to eat pasta or something else Italian. The staff is downright sassy but in a friendly way. No doubt, this is set by the owner, who is originally from Jersey. Plus, at this point, they really want to be there and it shows. It’s always a great thing when the staff really wants to be around. As for the food… it depends on what you get. I ended up with a chicken sandwich. The first time it had bacon on it, even though the menu did not say bacon anywhere. Sent it back. The next time it was missing the avocado(for shame) but we were too rushed for me to send it back. I also wasn’t keen on the chicken being dark meat rather than white, but that’s more of a personal preference. A 3 there. David’s beef sandwich, on the other hand, was a straight up 5. Very tasty and flavorful. Since we were walking back in that direction, we opted to do the happy hour that same night. Love the staff and love the characters that this place has started to attract. Drinks are reasonably priced as are their apps. I had the vegetarian quesadilla, which I adored. The wings, on the other hand, were just ok. We also happened to have fajitas made for the staff, at the owner’s insistence, and seriously, it was far better than what I’ve tasted at most Mexican restaurants. I seriously hope this goes up as a regular option because it was seasoned and spiced perfectly, similar to what I’d find in Mexico and Central America. In the future, they plan to have bands, with a focus on jazz. The stage in the far corner lends itself to it and I think it’ll be a great spot to grab a drink and see a show. This time I’m rounding up since it’s a new place and locally owned but for now it’s a solid 3.5. And because, like Norm at Cheers, I feel that here, everyone will know my name.

This restaurant just opened a week ago. WIth that in mind, we wanted to give it a shot. Their sandwich was TODIEFOR! MOUTHWATERINGGOOD. As I am writing this review, I am day dreaming of when I might get another. It was rather empty when we got there, so I was a bit skeptical. However, the staff was quite bubbly, charismatic, funny, and brutally honest. It’s quite a large pub, so we had our choice of seats. Naturally, I got one close to the bar and to the big screen tv. What did I order? Well for lunch, I ordered the Royal Dip. This is a tiny piece of heaven! Ever had an Italian Beef in Chicago? This is far better! Prime Rib sandwich with caramelized onions and mushrooms with a cup of au jus with sweet potato fries for $ 6.50. What an amazing deal! We returned for happy hour(3 – 7 pm) every day. I ordered one of their signature happy hour martini’s and a few well drinks. Amazingly mixed! I ordered the mix app, which was good, but not amazing. The wings weren’t marinated very well, but the fried mushrooms were quite good. I couldn’t do the horseradish ranch dip, so they brought out FRESH horseradish! They ordered chicken and beef fajitas for the staff and invited us to grab as much as we wanted. I had never tasted a better fajita in my life. We love sitting there watching the street traffic and the beautiful area through their huge windows. You can just look all around. All glass! They have distinctive lights and great tasteful music along with a few big screens with sports on. They’ll change to anything you wish. This place is a great bang for your buck with great staff. Just have a little patience as they just opened and are having growing pains. We plan to come back here weekly! We’re so glad to have that within walking distance. BTW, they offer breakfast, too.
