Not a fan. We went here for a co-worker’s birthday yesterday and the food was nothing short of bland. The shining star were the chips. They weren’t greasy whatsoever and paired well with the salsa(though the salsa was a little watered down). I ordered the Taco Locos. It was a shell with taco salad. The shell, like the chips, was delicious — it wasn’t greasy at all and it was even a little flaky. The filling though… ugh. Everything was mushed together and the ground beef was dry and lacked flavor. The lettuce was limp and the cheese was scarce. I’m sure we’ll have to visit this place a few more times for other co-worker birthdays but I may have to pass on that. Water was tap — no bueno. Service was fine. It was during lunch so it was busy but we were in and out of the restaurant in under an hour.

If you like good mexican food a good prices this is the place. But if you like guacamole then this place is worth the trip from anywhere in the city. lol.

First time I have visited this place. Was down near SW Blvd and wanted Mexican. I like to try new places so said why not. Great spot. Got packed at lunchtime! Had the lunch UNo. Relleno was excellent. Beans were great. Taco was large, meat was flavorful and shell was crisp. Oh, yeah…$ 4.99. Had a beer and it was ice cold. People were fast and friendly. Try it out!!!

By all appearances this looks like just a generic, run-of-the-mill Midwestern Mexican type of place. In this case, appearances are underselling it. Enjoyed our meal here. Very smooth margarita(El Patron). Guacamole Ranchero was a great choice. Pollo a Parilla was great to share.

I would highly recommend this place. Not only is it delicious but it also has great prices. My favorite dish is the fajita burrito.

We’ve been coming to Sabor Y Sol at least once/week for the last six months or so. Everything is really good, and we love their margaritas. Our favorite, though, is their homemade guacamole. The place is a little dive-ish, so if you’re too much of a clean freak, you won’t be able to handle it. It’s always clean by restaurant standards, but it’s an older building and sometimes the AC doesn’t work that well and the guacamole station is at the front of the restaurant near the entrance. Luckily, I’m not a germaphobe, and I eat that guacamole like I’ll never eat it again EVERYSINGLETIME. I’ve seen some other Unilocalers complain about the service, but there’s only been one time(on a busy Friday night) where we had to wait for drinks or food. That was the only time we’ve ever had to wait more than five minutes for our margaritas or more than 20 minutes for our food, but it was still worth it. My boyfriend’s favorite are the chicken nachos(the platter is big enough to serve an army) and my favorite are the ground beef tacos(I’m kinda boring). But anyway, it’s a great place and I’d give it five stars if the atmosphere was just a tiny bit nicer. Overall, though, we love it.

If you are looking for authentic Mexican food this is the place to go. I always have a great experience. The service was very prompt. I ordered the Fajita Chicken Salad. Not sure why it’s served with raspberry vinaigrette on the side. Because the salsa compliments it very nicely. The fresh sliced avocado was delish! Believe me you will not leave hungry.

Taco Tuesdays is a tradition that my family celebrates so when I was hipped to Sabor Y Sol conducting the same special I b-lined myself over. Great carnitas tacos and the margarita was divine! I was pleasantly happy from the creamy freshly made guacamole. Great for the kiddos and family friendly atmosphere to dine. Food was authentic and delicious, do check them out!

Kansas City has a wealth of great Mexican places around town, but the week only has one Tuesday. And that Tuesday. .. is Taco Tuesday. We’ve been to Sabor Y Sol before but on this particular day the rememberance of the giant margaritas and the promise of freshly-made guacamole got our anniversary off to the right start. You know you’ve got the right person in your life when life milestones are secondary to taco deals. In past visits, we’ve usually been in for dinner, which is generally packed. This time we managed to come in between lunch and dinner, and had the place almost entirely to ourselves. Our waiter quickly took our drink order and within minutes a large stone bowl of fresh guacamole was placed in front of us, dressed with crumbles of queso fresco on gorgeous greens and reds. The chip basket was toasty and crunchy, a perfect match for the little bowls of salsa sat down in front of us. We went to work on the openers, but just mere moments later our orders of veggie tacos arrived. The hard-shelled selections were piled with white cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, and beans, while the soft-shelled versions arrived wrapped in tin foil and just as stuffed. Within minutes, we were a whirling tornado of arms, hands, and mouths dipping tacos and chips into salsas, guacamole, and little bits of toppings that managed to slide off. No slouch on the drinking end of things, Miss K’s margarita endured the entire meal due to the sheer size of the thing, not to mention the potent tequila level of the drink. Our waiter was very prompt with refills of water, chips, salsa, and additional napkins, and within a half-hour we stumbled out into the hazy afternoon, stuffed and well on our way to getting our anniversary into party mode. One great thing about Taco Tuesday in Kansas City is the opportunity for gringos like us to explore parts of the city that, to the casual resident, might otherwise be unkown or even a little daunting. Sabor Y Sol sits in a very accessible area of Southwest Boulevard just west of Rainbow on the Kansas side, but obviously, it’s not the only offering on that strip alone. One thing that keeps us coming back is the welcoming ambiance and the homegrown atmosphere, which is a great introduction for those who want the thrill of dollar tacos(or, in the case of Sabor Y Sol, buy 1 get 1 free) but have grown tired of the corporate chains in the burbs. Come on down for Tuesdays, but come back any other night of the week for the guacamole and the rest of the menu. Make sure you bring your swimsuit(and an extra driver) if you order that margarita!

I love Sabor Y Sol! First, if you are in search of a bargain, Taco Tuesday is it. Enjoy a margarita because they are fantastic. The chips and salsa are fresh and arrive immediately. Try the Guacamole Ranchero — you’ll be glad you did. Although they have the usual Mexican fare, I most appreciate their salads and seafood dishes — so fresh. I have always had quick and pleasant service. This is my favorite, and pretty much my only at this point, destination for Mexican in KC.

OMG. I love this place Pros — 2 words: Taco Tuesday — killer Carne Asada tacos — incredible guacamole made when ordered — Salsa Verde has a great kick and is just soooo good. Just give me a straw! — and speaking of salsa. it’s ALL good — aside from Taco Tuesday, everything is good. I’m a tamale fan. — clean but also a «clean dive» feel — when it’s hoppin’, it can be a little loud but no one minds because it’s all«yums» — FAST service — friendly staff that has been together for quite some time

Is it wise to rate a Mexican restaurant after visiting it only once and on Cinco De Mayo? Why yes, I do believe it is. It’s freakin Cinco De Mayo! Think of the competition! If you’re not on your A game, Any Mexican Restaurant, on this of all days, I will certainly judge you. A game they did not have, that is for sure. I don’t even think Jr Varsity was on the court for this one. The restaurant was crowded but not overwhelming. I wonder, then, why we arrived at 6 and it was 6:30 before we had drinks and after 7 before we got our food(tacos, we got tacos…) and 7:15 before we got silverware. I don’t mean to be mean, but it seemed like unacceptably poor service and I’m usually quite gracious having been a server for many years myself. Food: Everyone posts about this place’s guac. Yep, it is freshly made at the hostess stand which honestly, is kinda cool and slightly abhorrent. You can sample it while you wait. Okay, I’m a bit of a snob. I’ve also managed food establishments before and this just didn’t settle well for me from a food safety perspective. Perhaps I’m being a nerd here. Maybe. It was tasty, though. I mean, of course I still ate it. And it was delicious. The tacos were not even close to my favorite. Normally, they’re $ 2 each and they were filling but bland. My friend got the carnitas tacos and they looked better than my chicken and beef. Next time, perhaps. But I don’t particularly plan on coming back. Just too many other choices in this city for fabulous Mexican food!

This place will strain you. Every time you go you’ll be optimistic the service will be better than last time, and the guacamole dip will be as fantastic as you remembered. You will only get one of those wishes, and it’s the guacamole. I recognize that the latest time I went was on Cinco de Mayo, but they never brought silverware. I might describe the atmosphere as so laid back you’re doing the Matrix. At that, the food is fine if you know what to get. Steak tacos ftw! I noticed the burger is now crossed off the menu, but if you order burger at a place like this you need to seriously evaluate your life. I lean toward a Modelo here served in a frosty mug, but I have it on the authority of margarita drinkers that the barkeep is no slouch. Decoration wise I’m not sure what to make of the neck winged mask of Hugo Chavez making a duckface, but taste is in the eye of the beholder.

A nice mexican place that has a friendly staff, good food, and a lot of bright orange paint(sol). When you first walk in, you see the hostess who happens to also prepare the guacamole, which really makes you want to order it. When you order it, it comes in a stone bowl and it is topped with a little fresh cheese. As nice and fresh as it looked, it could have used some salt and more spice. The menu has a lot of the typical entrees that you would find at any other Mexican restaurant, and we went with a couple familiar dishes, chicken flautas and carnitas. The flautas were done right and weren’t overly fried or dried out like we’ve experienced at another restaurant on the boulevard. The carnitas, however, were the star. They came as huge chunks of pork, not shredded and they reminded me of really good lechon(roasted pork). Overall, I liked the food and our wait staff was always friendly and patient. I’d be happy to come here again and explore other dishes on the menu.

Stop. Seriously! Stop driving by this place thinking. «I should go there sometime». It’s awesome! Stop today! Arguably the best Mexican on the Blvd. Ive been to all of them and this one ranks higher on the fresh and flavorful scale. Service is good, food is great and margueritas are ever flowing. I’ll be back again and again! P. s. Acapulco bay… arrrrrrrrriba! Ey-yi-yi!

I love this place. First of all, the hostess moonlights as a guacamole extraordinaire, hand making super fresh, real avocado guac in a stone molcajete. And man is that stuff good. My husband and I have made a meal off of just that and a couple of Sols(granted, a less than rounded meal, but I digress…) The service is fast and friendly and the place is spotless, which is a huge factor in me returning to a restaurant. The only reason they don’t get a 5 star review is that their menu is pretty generic. Hot, yummy and expansive, but generic. But hey– maybe I just haven’t had that one, mind-blowing dish yet.

I got a little too excited when we found this place and I knew I should have waited to review! Chips & Salsa — 5 Fajitas — 5 Beer served in frosty mugs — 5 Service — 2 I really like the food here… the boyfriend and I both really like the food! But the service we had the other night was worse than any place we have been lately. They have pretty good specials during the week but the food is killed when you’re unable to place an order for 20+ minutes after getting seated. To the point where if they allowed more than one scan of FrontFlip on a visit, we could have had two before placing our dinner order. The combination fajitas with shrimp, chicken and steak were delicious as well as the guacamole ranchero. The pricing is incredibly on point… but I was torn between a 3 and a 4 star because the service was THAT bad. But I’ll round up since the food really has been that good when we’ve come… Note to self: Don’t get overly excited about a quick and delicious dinner! :)

One of my favorite Mexican restaurants in KC for several reasons: 1. Good food 2. Friendly staff 3. Variety The food here is pretty tasty. The chips and salsa are always good and they make this big bowl of fresh guacamole as an appetizer. If you go to Sabor Y Sol, you have to try it. I also love the fact that they have vegetarian options and the prices are very reasonable as well. The staff here is nice and I’m pretty sure they all know my face by now. The only not-so-good thing that I would say about the place is that there are no tv’s here and there is no bar to sit at. Other than that, they get 2 thumbs up from me.

Always nice to come here… always…I dont live on this side of town anymore and so I don’t get to come by as often as I would like I have never had a bad experience or bad food here the employees here are always pleasant and happy to see you and it’s not a fake kind of nice The restraunt is always clean which really puts you at ease because if it is clean you don’t have any concerns about the look of the kitchen If I had one complaint about this place I would say that they need to expand the place, other than that there isn’t one, there just isn’t and I have been down the street towards downtown to a couple others and frankly they just don’t add up to the food, service and friendliness of this place
