I loved SEED! Thank you Unilocal for finding me the most delicious Vegan food in KCMO. We shared the pear salad between the two of us to start. I had the hard-shelled taco’s and my eating partner had the VLT with baked fries. Daniel was super friendly and the food was delicious. The living room/community center attached to the restaurant is comfy cozy. I’ll be back! Long live Seed!

Prices here can be little steep but that’s to be expected from an organic, vegan restaurant that sources its ingredients locally. With the help of Muncharoo vouchers, I was able to eat here twice for cheap. As others have mentioned, service here can be slow as there is only one person at the front of the house and one cook in the back. This allows time for you to read or enjoy the company of your dining companions. Café Seed also boasts a newly renovated outdoor sidewalk patio, perfect for dining on nice weather days. I highly recommend the chik’N sandwich made with freshly baked biscuits. It is easily one of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had. Brunch is also excellent here with the tofu«sausage» or «bacon» biscuit sandwich. Everything I’ve tried has been seasoned very well and flavorful. The freshly-made drinks such as the Green Giant juice and ginger lemon tea are excellent. Their juicer was broken upon my last visit and I am not sure if they have purchased a new one. The ambiance here is excellent with local art on the walls, lots of sunlight from the windows, and natural wood tables and chairs.

Delicious. Try any of the salads. They are so yummy you won’t need salad dressing. I also like that I can look up and see a poster of Malcolm X, eat a healthy vegan meal and support a local business.

I am a meat eater but I try to help my husband find good vegan places to eat. I went with him for lunch and it was surprisingly good! I had the BLT and he had the veggie burger. They were both very tasty. The burger was really flavorful and probably the best veggie burger I have ever tasted. I don’t know what I was eating for the«B» in my BLT but if had the flavor and crunch of bacon – nice. I am already planning my next trip.

I loved this little place. Staff are totally chill and friendly and smart. Food is the basics — grilled cheese, BLT, etc. and is delicious and vegan. These guys know where it’s at! I was in KC for 4 days and ate here 3 times.

It’s really a 3.5. Any way to get Unilocal to do half-stars? :) Been there twice. Yes, it is slow, and I would strongly recommend that potential patrons plan accordingly. For example, once I went with a bunch of people and was quite happy to have the time to talk. Another time, I came with a big stack of work during an odd time, sat on the couch, and waited for my meal. In either instance I was happy to have the time. For the food: such great vegan comfort food! Got the big brunch my first time and BLT and hot chocolate the second(because really, what says«comfort» more than a BLT and hot chocolate?!?) I don’t go often because it’s not terribly close to me. Also, you’d really have to be in the mood for meat or dairy analogs to get the most out of the place, and I’m not always. And also, there’s the thought in the back of my mind that I won’t always be in the mood for leisure like I was the first two times.

I was worried I wouldn’t be able to eat much when I was in KC for a work strip. I’m used to it, as a vegan, just living off of carrot sticks and Lara bars. Imagine my surprise when I found this place was within walking distance of my hotel. Of course it was in July and I was sweating cobs by the time I got there, but it was worth the wilting heat. The menu is good and a nice balance between tasty and healthy.(I’m a big fan of vegan junk food in general.) I was intrigued by the Chicken Biscuit, so I had to order it. Wow. It was good. I liked that there was a pretty healthy amount of lettuce with it, but not enough to drown out the rest of the sandwich. The biscuit was really good. Man, I’m getting hungry just thinking about it. I tried to reproduce it at home and it wasn’t as good. If I ever make it back to KC, I will definitely get that again. I also got the grilled cheese sandwich, which was surprisingly good. I don’t know what sort of cheese they used, but it made me feel like a kid. I want one right now, too! The cheeseburger looked really good and I regret not making time to try it. Alas… I will say the service was pretty laid back. Not terrible, but not that efficient. It really seemed to be one guy, so I’ll give him slack. I’m just happy places like Seed exist.

I feel bad giving this place **(two stars), but I’ve had better… in my own kitchen. The sign reads 4 out of 5 of their customers are meat eaters. I believe it… people who don’t eat meat are likely able to make something better at home. It’s not that the food is bad, it’s not, it’s just that as a person whose meat intake consists of fish, I basically eat a vegetarian diet and I like to cook. I don’t like to pay for a dish that I can make at home, and have it taste better. The service was slow, but we were served hummus and pita right after we ordered. This must be like a hold over offering so people won’t leave. Take a hint SEED, hire another person. You cannot be successful with one employee who waits tables, cooks the meals, makes the drinks etc. You will not survive. I never received my smoothie… no biggie, I actually forgot about it. Price: overpriced. I think my BLT with baked fries(these were kinda wimpy and no flavor) totaled over $ 11.00. I think I’ll stick to my own kitchen, although I’m sad because I want this place to do well.

I would have given Seed 5 stars, but like everyone else, the pace of service is just too slow, even when I was expecting it. Now I can see where food shouldn’t be rushed and a relaxing atmosphere and pace make for a better dining experience, BUT… I found myself waiting too long for things to occur and we were the only patrons in the restaurant. I had the Vegan Burger, loaded. It was delicious and I’m a fan. My wife and son are both Vegetarian and I am usually happy with the general vegetarian food they eat, but this was the best one I have ever had. The fries that came with it were loaded with something. Pepper for sure, but something else that occasionally gave me a kick in the throat. They were great. Word to the wise, a 2 year old will try and scrape off his tongue after eating one. My son declared them«too tasty». too tasty indeed. The rest of my party all had the Chick’N sandwich. Their plates were all clean. A good sign for non-Vegetarians. I will say I was also disappointed that there were no deserts. They are on the menu, they just sell out quickly. A shame, but a reason to go for lunch next time. I would go back, and yes, I will probably still feel like it takes too long.

My rating is creeping up — I want to give credit where credit is due. On the way home mid-afternoon, I had a tote bag full of magazines and newspapers and a rumbling tummy, all of which required attention. A slow-paced lunch seemed to be the best way to attend to those needs, and it seemed like a good time to give Seed a fourth(maybe fifth?) chance. I thought things were off to a bad start when I arrived and there were no staff to be seen. I hung out up front by the register for a minute or two, less because I needed someone to show me where to sit than concerned that if I sat myself, no one would ever notice me. But that was the only rough patch of the meal today. After four(or five) punishingly slow visits to Seed, the whole visit took a sensible pace today. My smoothie showed up within five minutes, and my BLT in about ten. Both were not mind-blowing but were definitely yummy, and the girl who took care of me was cheerful and friendly. It figures the one time I was counting on a long, slow lunch was the time they moved at a quicker pace, but I’ll definitely take the upgrade.

Very good food-love the chikn and biscuit. I have brought a number of meat eating friends in and they always leave fully and happy. Not a good place for a quick lunch, but if you go prepared to spend time talking with your dinner guests it will be ok. Brunch is also very yummy!

Excellent vegan food! My wife and I went here after hearing the recommendation of some friends. If you aren’t looking for this place, you would drive right by it… which would be terribly unfortunate! The food is fresh and fantastic. Have been back a few times now, and have enjoyed everything we have tried on the menu. My wife absolutely loves the the chik’n biscuit sandwich. The deserts are great too. The service is great, but the food does take a little bit to make(~15−25 minutes, which is a bit much for a café). If you’re in a hurry, I would highly recommend looking up their menu and calling ahead. Either way, it is definitely worth the wait!

My wife and I have a friend that is vegetarian so eating with her is often a challenge(in this city). We head about Seed from ‘Check Please!’ a local public TV show. So we went to check it out. I am an unrepentant meat eater, not the meat-at-every-meal kind but a meat eater none the less, so I was a bit nervous about what we might find at a Vegan place. What we did find was delightful food, I left full and happy. I had the vegan burger, and it was delicious. I would certainly eat here again, and really did not notice it was good for me! The service is really good, and often categorized as slow. By chain food places yeah its slow, they actually cook everything fresh so it takes a bit. Really friendly really helpful staff, great hang-out environment.

Great food, really nice people, but HOLYBAJEEZUS it’s SLOW! I ordered a BLT and it took an hour and i was the only one there… That said, it’s still good, it’s still veggie and it’s still local… .did i mention slow?

Okay so as a vegan in Kansas City you think I’d be here daily. Not the case. The joint is pricey, the service is horribly slow, and the food is just the sort of fair that I make at home when I’m not feeling lazy. Luckily for Seed I am lazy and I appreciate being able to eat someone else’s tofu scrambler and sausage links. If this were a bit faster(think Veggie Bites in Chicago) or the menu a bit more varied(think Shangri-La in Saint Louis) I’d make this a weekly pilgrimage, but as it is now — it’s a fine place to meet a crew on a Sunday morning for brunch.

The food: ridiculously good, all vegan, and fairly decent variety. The menu is not expansive by any means, but reasonable and definitely welcome, especially in KC, Land of Barbecue. The portions are the perfect size if you don’t need a whole lot to be full. I’m always completely satisfied, but if you want a bigger meal you might still be hungry afterwards. The space: TINY. The last time I was there I saw 3 groups of people walk in, see that there were no tables, and turn around and leave. Here’s hoping that they make enough money to move to a larger space someday. It’s cozy and well-lit, though, so there’s that. The service: excruciatingly slow and the waiters I’ve had were stand-offish. The last guy said about 2 words to us the entire time and wasn’t in too much of a rush to refill our water. If you have issues with patience or are about to drop dead from hunger, don’t even try to go here. You won’t last. I realize it’s not supposed to be fast food, but still. Just be prepared. But for the price and the tastiness, it’s worth it. If you’re with a great group of people that can hold a conversation for awhile, you almost won’t mind the wait. Almost. My overall grade: 75%.

Amazingly slow service and kitchen. Not a place to go, if you are in a rush. But if you are a vegan, you won’t find better choices anywhere else in KC.

What a great place! KC is limited as far as vegetarian/vegan options go, but Seed is as good as any veggie restaurant I’ve been to. I had read reviews reporting slow service, but we had no problems. I had the«chicken» sandwich. It was just phenomenal — it comes in a homemade biscuit that melts in your mouth. My wife had the veggie wrap which she enjoyed very much. We shared a turtle cheesecake for dessert which was nice and light. Strongly recommended!

I just love this little restaurant!!! I’ve been there twice and was very impressed with the friendly staff, the bright and cheery atmosphere, and most of all, the food. The veggie wrap and soup made the perfect lunch, and my boyfriend, who is a veggie burger snob, said that theirs was the best he’d ever had. Better than lunch though was their Sunday brunch. Savory tofu scramble, veggie bacon and sausage, home style potatoes and whole grain toast. Yum!!! And my friend got a beautiful waffle topped with fresh berries. The fare is satisfying enough to please even a meat lover’s appetite. Can’t wait to eat there again!

Only open a few months now, this amazing little café gets a little crazy during weekend brunch. They have a fairly small menu, but definitely something for everyone. They just added fresh smoothies, juices, and baked goods & desserts that change daily. My favorites are the finger-lickin’ good chicken sandwich, served on a hearty made-from-scratch biscuit with mayo and lettuce, and the Seed burger. Her pancakes with sausage are my brunch favorite; they are topped with whipped cream and fresh berries. The best part of the menu, though? EVERYTHINGISVEGAN! Second best part? They do NOT compromise on ethics or quality in any way. No GMO soy, lots of organics, natural sweeteners, and more local ingredients all the time. The owners are wonderful and it is almost always just the two of them juggling a packed house. There is sometimes a wait, especially weekend brunch, but it is always well worth it! If you haven’t hit this part of town lately, it’s worth seeing — the Unity Hill /Troost neighborhood has had some major loft and city home development over the last couple of years, as well as other nice spots, like the Coffee Girls Filling Station and You Say Tomato, both around the corner. The Seed menu changes often and desserts and specials get devoured quickly, so go often, get there early, and be patient.
