Sonrisa Salon & Day Spa

I found Sonrisa through a recommendation from a friend when I decided to move to Kansas City, and was rocking some wicked ugly hair from a previous hairdresser who was terrible. I love the fact that I am able to book my appointments for anything (manicure, massage or hair) online, and that they will email reminders for my appointments. My stylist-​Natasha– is amazing! Easily one of the most talented people I have ever had work on my hair. She’s super friendly, and I look forward to seeing her at each appointment. My color lasts and my layers are cut so well that they grow out really nicely. This salon sells Aveda products, which I didn’t have much exposure to when I started coming here, but I’ve found some excellent «keepers» through several of my visits.

I’ve gone to Tara Munsterman a couple of times now and she is wonderful. Probably one of the more expensive places I’ve gone, but she’s done a great job both times. Best hair I’ve had in a long time! She never rushes me out for her next client or sets me aside to do someone else while I am there. (which I’ve noticed is common in some places who are trying to get as many in the chair as possible.) Also, no pressure sales and awesome Aveda products! She’s pleasant and personable. Give her try — you won’t be disappointed! Fun little shopping area to browse, too, if you have the time!

I found Sonrisa while looking for an Aveda salon in the northland to get a facial. I was able to easily book an appointment online, see prices, and their staff — great website. I was given a great greeting by the reception desk and told me they’d take me to their «sanctuary» to relax while waiting for the esthetician. The sanctuary had Windows seeing into the salon and didn’t block out any noise so it wasn’t really relaxing. I had a pretty great facial — lots of great Aveda products and relaxing massage. The only thing was the towels weren’t really warm.
Overall it was a good experience and I will most likely return, however it doesn’t have that next level spa experience.

I recently played a flag football game and was extremely sore afterwards. My wife recommended that I get a massage from Sonrisa, so I scheduled a 90 minute Deep Tissue Massage and it was just what I needed. The staff was friendly, the spa area was relaxing and my massage therapist was awesome. She asked where I was hurting the most and she focused on my sore spots in my shoulders, back, and legs — I felt 100% better afterwards. Highly Recommend!

Amy is amazing! I’ve been waxing for a few years and Amy is by far the best! She is fast and professional and I wouldn’t go to anyone else.

While I haven’t yet received any services at the salon, I’d like to give a testimonial for the Aveda haircare products I purchased there. I had previously been using natural products from Whole Foods, and my hair was limp, roots oily, and ends dry… PLUS, my hair was getting thinner and thinner and I was even developing a little thinning spot on top of my head (near my forehead). I assumed my hair woes were genetic, because, after all, I was eating super-​healthy and using natural products. I purchased a big bottle of Shampure shampoo and conditioner to see if I would see a change within a 6-​week period. I was truly amazed! Within one week, the texture of my hair improved dramatically, and I no longer had the issues with oily scalp vs dry ends. Within 4 weeks I saw marked improvement in the thinning spot, and in fact, I had tons of new growth EVERWHERE over my head. I hadn’t realized that my hairline had receded, but apparently it had… My hairline has expanded by more than ¼ inch. I’ve been joking that my forehead is getting smaller and smaller! I’ll never switch to any other products. I will use Aveda forever! :-) Oh, and I also love that the owner and staff are highly ethical and care so much about the environment to use exclusively earth friendly products.

The only salon you will ever need and a wonderful staff too.

I took a chance this morning & booked an appointment with Sonrisa on a whim after reading Unilocal reviews. I am a new-​ish mom to an eleven month old that has sadly neglected myself a whole bunch in the last year. I decided this morning that the ugly hair HAD to go & I am so glad I called them!
I was booked with Natasha who did a fantastic job. I explained to her that I needed something low maintenance but that could still be funked up if I felt so inclined. She did a fantastic all over color and highlight and was chatty without being bothersome. I can’t say enough good things about my color – it turned out gorgeous and my hair cut? Man, I feel AWESOME. Natasha did a great job and I love love the way I look & feel now.
I really enjoyed the salon and the fantastic beverage bar they offer to clients. Everything smelled SO good as it is a Green Aveda salon. I love that I walked out of there and didn’t smell all chemically and feel like I needed to shower right after my hair appointment. I will most definitely be booking all my future appointments with Natasha and can’t wait to go back.

Sonrisa is now my new go to for my hair; I have tried too many places (priors where all in Southern CA).
When I first walked in, I liked the look and vibe (not too posh but décor was nice, comfortable). It was a bit busy for before 11am on a weekday, guess that’s normal? I made my appointment online with Natasha. She’s great. Helped me figure out what to do with my hair. My highlights had grown out, looked unnatural and I was growing out a haircut.
I loved that they are considered a «green» salon and use Aveda products.
Which have helped my dry over processed hair from the past.
I got a nice cut that will help grow out nicely, a more natural high light and color she suggested and my brows waxed (normally I’d thread them but can’t find a local place!). For around $ 160 is reasonable considering I felt very taken care and got all of the above done and am happy with my hair. I will be back in a few months for touch ups or trims.
They also offer beverages like coffee or tea and the staff is friendly.
They only reason it’s not a 5 star (for me personally) is that they don’t offer threading.

Sonrisa moved to a new location a few years ago and it is completely beautiful. I moved out of the area but I still drive :35 to use Amy for waxing exclusively. Go see her, now.

Amy does the best Brazilian wax I have ever had. I’ve been to four other girls and I will never go to anyone else. She is fast and thorough and somehow she is able to deliver the least amount of pain I’ve encountered.
My husband also had a massage from Heather and thought she was fantastic. After discussing with him what exactly he was looking for she talked him into a cheaper one! I’ve never heard of that.
I look forward to many, many more services from Sonrisa and will update as I get them.
I know it looks shady out front and the street is in terrible condition but I swear once you get inside you completely forget about that.
