Me and my girlfriend went in to get her husband a gift. The woman working saw that we were needing help. But she continued to answer a phone call from a person I guess unhappy with a purchase. We overheard her give horrible customer service to him. She even walked closer to us and was practically yelling on the phone. She was a foreign lady. We walked out. She lost a sale. We will never be back.

I had THEBEST experience at The Art of Shaving. What a lovely place! The décor is gorgeous, with great lighting and informative displays, and the woman who was working there was just absolutely dynamite– so kind and polite, she answered all of my questions and was very informative, but not pushy. I was buying a gift and didn’t know what to get, but she guided me through things, and I left within just minutes, very happy, and spending less than I’d expected to. So thrilled this place is on The Plaza– I’m looking forward to introducing more people to it. It’s a treat!

With more and more men going back to shaving the way their grandfather did, The Art of Shaving store on the Plaza is the place to be for old-school shaving enthusiasts. There is, believe it or not, a proper way to shave. TAoS harkens back to an older time when shave cups and straight razors were king. At this retail store, they offer both products and can schedule«proper» shaves for gentlemen. My trips here have been to stock up on products. My trip about a year ago was a trial size kit for beginners — $ 25 bucks nets you small trial sizes of pre-shave oil, cream, after shave lotion, and a signature badger hair brush. They offer three different scents, and I preferred sandalwood over the other clearly elderly gentlemen-like smells. I don’t need to shave every day, but after a weekend, I really like to use this product for a really clean and close shave to start the work week. It took me a while to run out of the trial sizes(a little goes a long way) and I actually restocked on the pre-shave oil at Nordstroms, an authorized retailer. I ventured back the other day to restock on shaving cream and was met with the same stellar customer service as my first visit. TAoS should survive on the swanky Plaza catering to older gentlemen, hipsters, and yuppies willing to shell out about 25 bucks for each item(once you get back the trial set). They also might try to sell you a Gillette«elite» razor or something like it for over 100 bucks. Honestly, you’ll be fine with your own razor of choice. It’s the combination of oil, cream(ONLY applied with the badger brush) and lotion that make the shave the best possible. It’s a once every couple months visit for me, but I look forward to stepping back in time to visit and restock when I need it.

I shave everyday and I hate doing it, but what I hate more than that is buying replacement razor blade heads for the razor. I had walked by the Art of Shaving a few times but didn’t check it out because I thought it was out of my league. The all changed a few weeks back, I checked it out and boy am I happy I did. I was warmly greeted and given space to browse the merchandise. The one thing about this place that I love is that there is an option for everyone. I was interested in a straight razor but after consulting with the salesperson I picked out a safety razor. I was given an in store tutorial and explanation about the correct angle to hold the razor and the differences between store bought shaving cream and the brush/cup variety. I chose to stick with my canned cream and stated I would think about upgrading to a kit. After a week I decided to go back to the store and pick up the kit. I was getting an excellent shave with regular shaving cream but thought it prudent to give myself the royal shave treatment. Based on the recommendations of the salesperson I picked my kit out and went home happy with my purchase. I have never experienced a better shave in my life and I am grateful to the exceptional service provided by those at the Art of Shaving. I owe them for introducing me to a better standard of grooming and in the long run they will save me money too. Highly recommended for anyone that wants to take their shave to the next level.

Once again that wushing sound you maybe hearing is the hot air once again being let out of my over opinionated ego. When if first saw this store open up I rolled my eyes thinking something along the lines of «Oh good Sharper Image for shaving. Just what we need yet another d-bag magnet on the Plaza.» That initial thought was re-enforced when I checked out their web site. For what ever reason I walked in one day to check the place out for my self. I was surprised and impressed to find that the staff was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. They work more as educators than snooty boutique sales people. They were not pushy, and were very patient in explaining why what they offered was different and in what ways. They never pushed to buy anything, they simply explained the options they offered. As I was leaving they handed my a free sample box which promptly was tossed in the back of the medicine cabinet and forgotten about. That was until I ran out of shaving jell before a rendezvous with a certain lady. So grabbed the sample kit and gave it a whirl My initial impression was that the products were more difficult to use than their grocery store competitors, but I found that it did seem to produce better results. And the lady in question later confirmed. After a few more tries I was hooked on the pre-shaving oil and Shaving Cream. Given that most company’s are kicking out the lowest quality crap they can get away with I appreciate their attempt to provide a higher quality old school product line. I don’t know if I am going to go for the high priced brushes or shavers they offer but I am thinking about it and at a minimum I am hooked on the the basic products they offer. UPDATE: Have since also purchased one of the adjustable safety razors. It took some getting used to but works better, AND the replacement blades cost about a $ 1 each rather than $ 5 — $ 10 each like the Bic, Gillette, etc. brand options. Making it better and cheaper! Never going back, or going any where else.
