Came here on a networking lunch and as always excited to come here. So refreshing to partake in farm-to-table comfort food! The service was excellent. My dining counterpart opted for the Pasta Special of the Day Roast Beef Pasta with BBQ Ancho Sauce — it was a different take on Loaded Mac & Cheese but in a good way. I opted for the Hatfield Half which is a hamburger that consists of local, grass-finished, choice ground beef patty, lettuce, onion, aioli, on a bun, served with house-cut fries. HUGE burger! I also had the iced tea. The eatery is off the city’s farmers market area that is accesible by bus and streetcar; parking is limited. Calling ahead for reservations may be beneficial this place is a favorite and I hear their brunch is off the scales. I will most certainly be back.

Brunch for Father’s day at 1:30. 5 of us went. Had reservations and still sat for 5+ minutes before anyone came to the table. B&G seemed to be a hit along with the corned beef hash. Steak and eggs were also good. Pork confit was pretty tasteless and super chewy. I believe latkas were on the bottom.. Burnt. killed the entire meal. Will possibly try it again but not for brunch.

This place was amazing! Very friendly, probably the best grilled cheese ever and a very fresh special salad. Great entrance meal for this California visitor

Funny I’ve never reviewed this place, as I’ve been here several times in the past for lunch. Fan of the Farmhouse — consider it to be the Missouri equivalent of 715 in Lawrence. I’m big on the farm-to-table concept, the quality of the ingredients always shines through the simply prepared food. Love the vibe and décor here, very laid back, gorgeous patio strung with lights, shady and perfect for River Market people watching. Stopped in here for brunch, had a perfect french press of Broadway Café french press(sigh). Hubby snarfed the Lord Kenzo, was completely fat and happy afterwards. Great wine and drink menu, worth coming alone for that. I need to make a point to come back much more often.

Oh Farmhouse, while you were incredibly friendly and accommodating, my rating is based fully on our food experience alone. The dining room was full so we agreed to eat outside on the patio. Since it was 100 degrees this was probably a poor decision on our part however, we were just hungry and ready to eat. My husband ordered the pork confit and I ordered hanger steak. I had read so many reviews about how rich and delectable this steak was so I couldn’t wait to sink my teeth into it. The meal came out very quickly which was a pleasant surprise. I immediately noticed how little blue cheese butter was on my steak but hoped what it lacked in sauce, would be made up for in flavor of that steak. I tried the fries first. They were fine, your typical French fry. I wasn’t crazy about the homemade ketchup but again, I can let that one slide. I was anxious to taste the steak and was very unimpressed with the flavor. I tried it again thinking maybe it was just something bitter on my taste buds but again, was incredibly let down. On top of the strange flavor, the steak was also incredibly chewy and tough. I had read how tender hanger steaks were supposed to be and this was one was far from that. My husband also couldn’t eat the steak. His pork confit was edible but that is about it. The pork was flavorless and although it was advertised as ‘crispy’ it was a soggy mush. The sweet potato purée and the Johnny cakes also lacked flavor. We were amazed at how a plate full of somewhat bold foods were lacking in flavor completely. On a brighter note, the manager took the hanger steak off of our tab and she also offered me more food and a dessert. I turned both down simply because we were ready to go at this point. As we were leaving they gave us a $ 15 gift card. Again, incredibly nice gestures but we go to restaurants more for the incredible food, nice friendly service should be the cherry on top.

4.5 stars Umm, Farmhouse, why have I not discovered you earlier??? Came here with a group of friends for a birthday brunch. I love their extended hours; brunch is served from 9−3pm — yessss, ¼ of the day dedicated to the best meal of the day! Farm-to-table is the name of the game here(why yes, I enjoy drinking water out of mason jars and knowing where the piggie on my plate comes from, thankyouverymuch). Because of this, the menu is small but very solid. I fell in love with my pork confit on first bite — the tender and juicy pork was well-balanced by the slight char on the johnny cakes and mildly spicy ancho chile sauce. Note to those who are picky about their potatoes — the hash here is made of finely diced potatoes vs shredded. I enjoyed it just fine, but the johnny cakes were the star of the show. My other friends enjoyed their quiche and steak & eggs. Prices are very reasonable for brunch, $ 10 – 15. A couple of my friends commented on how perfect the portion size was — enough to keep you happily satiated but not to the point of discomfort. Of course no brunch is complete without a cocktail. My espresso old fashioned was a tad on the sweet and light end, but it was fitting for the occasion. The Mezcal Mary was tasty, but beware of the spice level — it packs a lot of heat. Because we were celebrating 2 birthdays, we were offered a free rum cake on the house — we devoured that warm buttery goodness. The only reason I’m not giving 5 stars is because of the painfully slow service. I wasn’t timing, but each portion of the meal — from drinks, to food, to dessert — took a significant amount of time. Our server checked in with us regularly so we weren’t ignored, but If I hadn’t been around such good company I probably would’ve gotten frustrated. One final tip: if you’re coming on a weekend, make reservations. It gets packed… …and for good reason. In the Midwest brunch is too often characterized by heavy-handed buttery/salty concoctions. Farmhouse delivers a rustic meal with just a little more consideration to the ingredients. I can’t wait to return!

This place has a lot of good going for it, but a couple of bad things too. First off, I’ll talk about my experience making reservations. I called in around 4:00 to ask if they had anything open for 6:30 pm. The girl was adamant that they did not have anything until WELL after 8:00,but I was welcome to show up and try to get a seat on the patio, but there would likely be a wait. At this point, I remember I have an opentable account, so I log in and find a reservation available for 6:15. Uhh… ok. Not a great start. We arrive and are promptly seated… in a room that is 90% empty. Don’t believe me? Check the attached pictures. I really don’t see why they were turning down reservations for this time period, because the place seriously could have used some more customers. Our waitress arrived, an adorable Miley Cyrus look alike, and she was fun, upbeat, friendly, and a really great addition to their waitstaff. The atmosphere was cool. Exposed brick walls and some interesting art you wouldn’t find just anywhere else. Water was served in mason jars, which I thought was a nice touch. I love the farm to table concept in dining, and the food here was good. We both got the hangar steak and fries, however, our plates were mostly fries with very little steak. I actually counted and found that I only had six, small bite sized pieces of steak. The steak was well cooked and the quality was good, but this is admittedly the first time I’ve ever left a steak dinner feeling hungry. The plate was mostly fries, which were good, but overly salty and varied in levels of doneness throughout the plate. Would I try this place again? Maybe, but likely it would be for brunch instead of dinner.

Terrible experience. Not reviewing the food. Never made it that far. 5:45 pm Saturday we walked in and the place was empty. We were asked if we have a reservation. No. Well the hostess might be able to seat you when she gets here. Ok. Six employees standing around. Doing nothing. Ok, chau. Not going back.

I obviously like to support locally owned and operated restaurants and loved that this was so close to Breakout KC where we were going right after dinner. I thought the service and atmosphere were wonderful. The food was good, but not amazing — I liked our appetizers(cheese platter and something else goat cheesy… yummmmmmmm) more than I did my entrée(hangar steak and fries), though my husband raved about his rum cake. Prices were in line with what you’d expect for a restaurant of this caliber.

Super yummy and very nice to know its all from local places which they have listed on the back of their menus. Also neat to see a small garden in the back. We started off our meal with the bruschetta and a strawberry salad, so good! I had the trout with Brussel sprouts and sweet potato, pretty good. My husband had the hanger and fries, very good but was surprised with the small amount of meat. He could have ate two more servings of the meat. We loved it though, very good.

I have tried really, really hard to like the Farmhouse but I just. can’ . I am a big fan of farm-to-table establishments and with the Farmhouse being within walking distance of my home and having a pretty clutch patio, I thought that it would quickly become a favorite of mine. Unfortunately, this seems unlikely to happen as I also really like good food… and the Farmhouse just hasn’t delivered on that over the several times that I have been there. Most recently, I tried their smoked chicken and dumplings, which on paper sounded amazing. Horseradish and mascarpone dumplings, herbed broth, winter veggies, chicken, chicken liver mousse and fried chicken skin. The dumplings were bland, the chicken was tough and I just could not get on board with the mousse… might have been a texture thing? Anyway, my husband got their lamb, which I tried a bite of… it tasted fruity… and not in a good watt. Unfortunately I think it’s 3 strikes and you’re out for my relationship with the farmhouse.

The Farmhouse is a farm to table restaurant with a strong art vibe in Kansas City’s River Market. Just a few steps away from a streetcar stop, and a few more steps away from the highway, The Farmhouse sits in a prime location, and is worth stopping by if you’re looking for a salad or sandwich for lunch. I visited with two friends on President’s Day and ordered the cheese plate and the vegan BLT. The servers didn’t bother to explain the cheeses. The cheeses tasted fine, regardless of my ignorance for where the cheeses came from. I appreciated that the stronger cheeses were served with some greens to mix up the flavor. The crackers are house made, and fantastic. The vegan BLT was done well. The bacon is not pre-purchased fake meat. Rather, Farmhouse takes the time to thinly slice pieces of tofu and deep fry them. The tomatoes are preserved, not fresh, giving the sandwich a different flavor. I regret getting the fries. First, I happen to take bold stances against fried potatoes from time to time. But these fries were soft, uneven, and the ketchup sauce that came with them was peculiar. The art in the restaurant was probably more peculiar than the ketchup. At one point, my friend pointed out that the piece directly behind me looked like enlarged Brussels sprouts made of paper. The masks to the right of my table were on sale for $ 175 each. And there was a cross-like figure made of bits metal, wood, and other odds and ends, as if Jesus had returned from the grave three days later, but as the metal and wood imagination of someone’s psychedelic acid trip. The art and atmosphere definitely created enjoyable table conversation. I would come again. I’m not sure what I would order for lunch next time — the only sandwich on their menu that’s vegetarian is the vegan BLT. There appear to be some decent salad options.

I was in town with a friend on a short vacation, and he insisted that we visit here. This downtown location is smack dab in the middle of it all, and made for a beautiful yet chilly Sunday walk. The space is cozy, packed with tables and a bar. It’s like walking into your grandmother’s cozy house, if your grandmother had a bar, I guess. :) The feeling is instantly welcoming, worn in, and familiar. Despite it being high time for brunch, we were instantly seated and greeted with a warm smile. It was tough to decide on brunch! I was so happy to see that they do French press coffee, and pounced on that. We decided on an order of biscuits and gravy to share, and I ordered the omelet of the day, which had greens, chorizo, and mushrooms on this particular day. Such a win. I demolished the omelet and accompanying potatoes, but totally forgot about the biscuits until the carnage was over. Trust me when I say this, you will not be able to conquer it all. I was super stuffed, so we ended up picking at the biscuits(which were magical). Food coma, for sure. Side note! All ingredients are locally sourced, meaning you can look at the board of vendors and see exactly from where your food originated in the area! Word to the wise: your bill can add up quickly if not watched. Between the Bloody Mary, coffee, entrees, and side, we spent a good chunk of change here for our normal brunch budget. Yipes. My only feedback is having a larger waiting area for incoming guests. It was freezing outside, and a group of us were packed into the small foyer. I’m sure it’s much easier during the summer!

My husband and I were visiting Missouri for a family wedding and wanted to grab a quick brunch before the airport. Chose this place on a whim. I’m glad we did! It was wonderful. Friendly, efficient service for sure but the highlight was the food. My husband had the«Lord Kenzo» with biscuits, gravy, cheese, sausage, etc. It was perfect. And a big enough portion for his huge appetite. I got to try a little bite. I had the veggie benedict. I’m not a vegetarian but it looked really good with mushrooms and spinach. The dish was even better than I was expecting. The smoky mushrooms went perfectly with the poached eggs and the Hollandaise sauce was the best I’ve ever had. If we are ever back in KC, we’ll be back for sure!

My fiancé and I love our impromptu trips to Kansas City, which always entails new places to eat! Go figure, we used Unilocal to find this gem! Ironically we visited during the tail end of restaurant week here in KC! We did a walk in and were luckily able to be seated without a reservation – others were not so lucky! Everything here is locally sourced from farmers which is great! My fiancé and I both had the same meal, look in the pictures we posted – it was to die for! Obviously mimosas were a must; I mean common it’s breakfast :) We would definitely be back in the future – it’s literally right outside of downtown! Food and service were spot on!

Loved this place! We came for brunch and pretty much loved everything about it. Service was really attentive and friendly! The inside is also very comfortable with high ceilings and good space between tables. Food was incredibly fresh and flavorful. We shared the Farmer’s salad which had a great dressing with chunks of delicious bacon and amazing warm polenta«croutons». I had the steak and eggs which were perfectly cooked as I requested. My family got eggs/veggie benedicts which were also really good and came on big slices of challah. Recommend the biscuits too! Portions are big! Really enjoyed the Bloody Mary here which was spicy and tasted homemade. French press coffee was also a nice touch. Would happily be a regular here!

We were celebrating my husband’s 30th birthday, which I had mentioned when I made the reservation, and after we had ordered our drinks, a few staff members came over with complimentary champagne and toasted us. It was such a special touch and really made the evening special. The luxury Córdoba was everything I want in a cocktail. Many layers of flavor in every sip. Slightly bitter juniper flavors from the gin, a faint strawberry sweetness, and the fresh kick from the mint. The walleye entrée is delightful. The fish is light but meaty, and cooked perfectly with a nice crispy bottom skin. The sweet potato hash was barely noticeable… I think I got 3 slices of sweet potato. But I was ok with it because the Brussels sprouts were incredible. Seared and caramelized and just bursting with freshness. The attic ham was a bit too crispy for my liking but added an excellent saltiness to the dish. The hanger steak and fries was good as well. I was skeptical… I’m a fan of grain fed beef myself. But this grass fed steak was still tasty. This cut comes from the plate section, which in and of itself has a unique flavor. The finishing butter was a nice final note for the palate, but they let the beef flavor shine. It was cooked to a perfect medium rare. The goat cheese cheesecake, comped as well, was gloriously luscious and incredibly dense. Not too sweet with a nice tang from the chèvre. Overall I truly enjoyed my dining experience at the Farmhouse. It’s a bit off the beaten path as far as downtown goes, so if you’re from out of town, a car is needed.

I’ve only ever been here for brunch so I was excited to go for dinner. Also October’s dinner club venue was the farmhouse. The place is really cute and we had a party of 12 so we got sat in the back. Also noticed there is a private room for intimate settings. I ordered the tomato soup and the fried catfish in which I loved them both. The catfish was served under a bed of legume and some tartar sauce(but I’m sure there’s a fancy name for it). And all the food is from local farmers so it’s nice to know we are supporting local businesses. My friend brought her son with her and he was feeling sick and threw up a bit. The waitress was nice enough to give him a ginger ale for his stomach so kudos to the waitress. I’d like to come back and try something else. It’s in the heart of river market so after dinner you have good selection for a night cap. Great place for dinner!

KC does not lack for good brunch places — I’ve been to multiple brunch spots here, and I’ve been pretty impressed with the options for my favorite meal of the day. One of my local favorites is The Farmhouse, a self described«farm-to-table, tip-to-tail» restaurant. The Farmhouse works with local farmers in Kansas and Missouri to secure in-season, fresh, locally grown or raised produce and meats. The result is flavorful, seasonally relevant, and superbly satisfying dishes. But I admit one of the things I like most about the place is I can bring one of my favorite eating buddies, my 15-year-old Shih Tzu, Zeek. Okay, a lot of places have outdoor dining, but that’s definitely an added perk here. Now onto the food. I ordered a strong iced tea to start, then perused my options. Sweet or savory? Meat or carbs?(Or both?). After much deliberation, I decided on the French Toast, with Missouri strawberries, maple syrup and whipped cream. YUM. The French toast was just egg-y enough and the maple syrup with strawberries was like candy. And since I’m indecisive, I got a side of bacon. Yasssss… My eating buddy ordered the«Lord Kenzo» — a daunting pile of goodness. The Lord Kenzo consists of two house-made biscuits with cheddar cheese, a pork sausage patty, pork sausage gravy, and a fried-hard Windhaven Farms egg. Wow. I’m pretty sure I turned the plate around several times, a little intimidated, trying to find where to dig my fork in for a sample bite. I ultimately decided I just needed to take multiple forkfuls to get the full experience. And the Lord Kenzo did not disappoint. Overall, The Farmhouse is a delicious option in the River Market area. The back of the menu had a long list of the farms from which the restaurant sources its ingredients, which is always good to see(and a fun read!). If you’re looking for a a solid brunch option in KC, check out this quaint local joint. I have not yet been to The Farmhouse for dinner, but the menu looks equally as delicious as brunch, so I hope to visit again soon.

I loved this place. My husband and I went on a Sunday after church. The menu was as eclectic as the music heard playing. We both loved our dishes. Sit outside if given the choice! The menus are actually just printed papers on clipboards. Your drink comes in a jar and everything is very rustic. It’s really lovely. Try any of the salads, they’re amazing and come from local farms. It’s a little pricey.
