Wow… Just horrible service on a Monday night at 8:00 pm. The place was about ½ full and we checked in about seating. In front of the building was open and there was another couple there. We waited 15 minutes before I walked in and ordered drinks from the bar and asked for menus. We were told our server would bring our drinks and and take our orders. We waited an additional 20 minutes and left. Based on the reviews it looked to be a great place but our experience was pretty poor. Hopefully they will their act together for future off-peak diners.

Had a great Saturday brunch there. Pulled pork isn’t something I would normally order with eggs or even see as an option. But the pulled pork was absolutely delicious. Enjoy the outside seating as much as everything

Just to be clear, they could kick me in the crotch and serve me dog food, and I would still show up. I love the music and the open jams. The guests are hit and miss, but the core bands are amazing. I get appetizers and cocktails which are good. I’ve seen some snarky comments about the waitresses on here. Every single one has been pleasant and attentive every single time I go. Yes, they are often attractive women. So what, get over it! They are making a respectable living in a classy, yet casual jazz club.

The entertainment was wonderful as always, but the service was severely lacking, even before it became busy. Our server was friendly enough, but not over the top or quick. The french dip sandwiches we ordered were O.K. but not anything to write home about. The garlic parm fries were good.

We were visiting Kansas and stopped by here for some lunch and ended up having an amazing server(Jenny) who suggested some awesome spots and she went out of her way to recommend more and more information after welcoming us! Loved her. Definitely coming back. :) salad was good too!

We went for the first time last night and really enjoyed ourselves. We loved the live music and our server, Carrine, was a delight. Great place for a night out with friends.

Great jazz music, $ 5 cover. Food was okay(had the chicken pasta). Luke was a sweet bartender. Gave some free shots/samples. Will definitely be back.

I was like warm abut this place. They us good cocktails and a great staff. The food was not so hot though. We opted for the steak sandwich trying to save a little money because the next cut of steak was like 30 and we essentially got two huge slices of French bread with a little sliver of roast beef.

Amazing place for any get together. The place is cozy, music energetic and soothing at the same time. Food was better than regular restaurants with a list of drinks that made me curious. Definitely highly recommended for an evening to spend at.

The Phoenix is a great spot for some live jazz and cocktails. A group of friends and I went here to celebrate my boyfriend’s birthday, and it was a fantastic choice. We sat furthest from the band so we didn’t disrupt the music if we talked for a bit, but were still able to fully enjoy the tunes. Drinks were reasonable, our cocktail server was great, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the venue.

I’ve stopped by The Phoenix for lunch twice and it was okay. I consider the food reasonably priced. The Mac n Cheese was extremely cheesy but lacking on flavor. I peppered it for a solid 30 seconds and then it was decent. The pork tenderloin was decent as well, but there are much better options in the area. I did enjoy their savory fries. I could see myself going back for lunch due to convenience(I work 0.25 miles away) but not because I’m totally excited for their food. It looks like it could be a fun place at night with drinks and live music, but I couldn’t comment on that first hand.

5 Star service, the waitress that took my order was exceptionally pleasant, and even listened to my ramblings about another establishment serving bacon that was WAY too thick. So she took my order for a BLT, I didn’t read the fine print that this was a Triple Decker! Boy howdy this sandwich was huge, and a close second to The Peanut. I will be back for their pick two lunch for $ 7.50!

I really hate to give this place one star after I finally had my first good experience here. The music was good(Kelley Gant) the food was ok and my waitress was delightful. HOWEVER, the bartender was extremely rude and unprofessional. She gave her coworker all types of attitude when asked to change the tv station. And worst of all, on a 40 degree night, she decided to open the door because it was warm ??? Really??? And when asked how long it would remain open–«until it airs out» Really a shame that she almost ruined my first decent experience at Phoenix…

Overall, I had an enjoyable time at The Phoenix and would return if I was with a group that was interested in some live jazz. Prices were not terribly high, but there is a $ 5/person cover to get it. The performer we saw was quite good and had the crowd very entertained. Our waitress was slower than molasses though and didn’t seem too«with it». We arrived around 7:30 and stayed for about an hour(until the band was finished). It is street parking only, which means you may get lucky or you may circle the place a while before finding a spot. One thing I found very strange was that a Shirley Temple was ordered by a member of my group(due to them not being able to have alcohol). We were(luckily) informed that they make their own grenadine and that it has liquor in it and that they do not have a regular grenadine. That’s a bit of a bummer for designated drivers, pregnant woman, recovering alcoholics, etc…

The music and the Devi d at The Phoenix is awesome. They have a great Jazz Brunch from 10am — 2pm. If you like Bloody Mary’s, you’ll enjoy the a you can drink bar.

This place is loud, crowded and lively and I love every inch of it. The bartenders aren’t always the quickest and the bar area tends to be exceptionally crowded almost every night of the week. They constantly have live music(they even have a brunch band on Saturday mornings). The music is loud, I will say that. Not much conversation is going to happen while they’re playing. The band is set up by the door and one of my favorite things to do is actually sit outside on their patio when the weather’s nice because you can still hear them play! Generally, there’s a cover — $ 5. Their food is good(I always get the sweet potato fries) and although there’s not much room, sometimes people get up and dance a little. Good place to bring someone from out of town and show them a little KC jazz.

As a music fan this is a good place. There isn’t much of a stage but the sound is fantastic. It’s not too loud and the acoustics make it very clear. The staff is sometimes slow on a very busy night but they make up for it in the friendliness.

I love the Phoenix! The atmosphere and jazz are incredible. Friday nights, Lonnie McFadden between 5 pm-8 pm, is a great night to go for jazz. $ 5 cover. Lonnie has so much personality and is made for singing and the stage, his pianist and drummer are great as well. It’s a great place for entertainment in Kansas City. Get there early for a table and seat, it’s tough to come by seats after 6:30 pm on Friday. It’s loud, so don’t plan on having a heart to heart with someone here over drinks. The service has always been wonderful and the staff are friendly. Drinks are AWESOME! Try the one with smoke in it! The crab cakes, sweet potato fries and firehouse chicken are our go to menu options. Great jazz, great ambiance, great drinks, decent food… only thing more I could ask for here is more space for more seating, but don’t let that stop you!
