I like this place. It has a dark cozy tavern/pub feel that I’m always drawn too and the food’s not so bad either! The reuben is amazing, curry and chips also good. I wasn’t too impressed with the shepherds pie, it was a little bland. Overall great ambiance, pretty good food and decent beer selection.

Stopped by for a quick warm bite on a cold night. Fabulously friendly service. Delicious hot Irish food. Had the beef pot pie and the fish and chips. And of course a pint of good Irish beer.

headed here for dinner with my son and husband a few nights ago, not quite sure what to expect. we were definitely the youngest people in there(and not because we had a toddler). everyone was super friendly from the moment we walked in the door. they also catered to our little guy(great kids menu) and he devoured his grilled cheese and applesauce. I was craving a french dip, so that’s what I ordered with sweet potato fries and my husband had a pork tenderloin sandwich. the rest of the menu looks really good too. this is a comfortable, friendly place with good food. we will definitely be back.

I feel like I have found my «place.» As soon as you walk in it is just – comfortable. Low lights, friendly, prompt staff, TVs in all the right places. I had the hamburger both times I have been here and it was great. It seems to get busy and loud after 8pm and I haven’t really hung around for that part of the evening. I love that they have Sporting Kansas City watch parties here. I wish I could walk to this wonderful place from my house!

After dinner drinks is all we were looking for, so not sure we have a lot to review. The place had a good sized crowd in the bar, which is the only area we checked out. Our server was attentive, not over the top, but then again were low maintenance! Nice, clean, local hangout. Could use a little music to liven the place up a bit!

My husband and I both love the Gaf. It’s our go-to local neighborhood spot. The staff is super friendly and they pour a perfect Black and Tan. They added some basic wine by the glass options and can make a mean cocktail, so this has something for everyone in terms of adult beverage options. Awfully good bloody marys on the weekends as well! The strawberry chicken salad on the menu is one of my personal favorites, as is the Irish Beef Stew. Nothing beats a cold winter evening like settling in at the Gaf for some Irish Beef Stew and a couple Guiness! Their shepard’s pie and chicken pot pie are really very good as well. Everything on the menu is good, but these are my go-to standouts! For an Irish Pub, this is the best one I’ve been to. The group of people the owner has working there are a delight, and the fact I can walk to and from my house is an exceptionally convenient perk!

I am ashamed to say that I have never stepped foot in this place until 2 weeks ago. Cozy, charming, warm, dark, clean, homey, friendly and smelling of fish and chips. Feels like I could be in another country… you know the one. How could I have missed all this for so long? I only had tome for one drink, but I wish I could have stayed longer. I will be back soon Gaf. I will be back soon.

Walked in waited 5 minutes at the hostess stand where it stated please wait to be seated. No one even acknowledged us. Noticed all the staff talking with each other at the kitchen door. Walked out.

My brother was in town and wanted to try something Irish food. I found the Gaf and I ended up having the Irish Meat Stew and my brother had the Traditional Irish Breakfast. My brother loved his Traditional Irish Breakfast but he wasn’t too keen on the hashbrowns. My Irish Meat Stew was pretty good. It had a few big chunks of meat but I didn’t care for the carrot and celery being in big chunks but over all it tasted pretty good. We also ordered the Curry Chips which were seasoned fries with a small dipping bowl that tasted like gravy mixed with curry powder. The Curry Chips was an appetizer that we ate throughout the meal. We ended up finishing it off after our dinner. Also, we tried to order the bread pudding for dessert but they ran out of that. Maybe next time. Also, my brother order the Black and Tan which is half Guinness and half beer. He seemed to have enjoyed that. The atmosphere felt like more of a bar scene than a restaurant but the service was friendly and for a wednesday night it wasn’t very busy. I believe my brother and I will definitely would like to come back to Gaf and try some other dishes.

In all reality, this covers two visits within a few days of each other. Blame the success of the Three Lions for us mobbing this place on multiple occasions. The staff was very welcoming towards us on both visits for the English national soccer/football teams matches during their Euro 2012 run. Big TVs, dimly lit, and a helluva beer selection. First go round, during the England vs Sweden game, I rolled in a bit earlier than most of my friends. My eye was on one dish alone, the full Irish breakfast. Black and white pudding, the beans, the bangers, tomato, good ol rasher of back bacon, and fried eggs. If only it had fried bread instead of toast, but maybe they were doing my heart a favor. Ordered a Newcastle to go along with this behemoth of a meal and went to town. If speed eating a full breakfast was an Olympic sport, I would at least pull in the bronze to Michael Phelps, the thing was gone 12 minutes later. The second time, I was in a fish mood so I went with the easy choice of fish and chips. The fries were way too soggy for my liking, plus the fact that they were regular fries instead of big chippy fries. The fish however was fried perfectly, with the perfect cracking outside with that wonderful meaty interior. Little bit of tartar sauce to cool the scalding hunk down and I enjoyed it. Fries though, they really gotta fix that. Couple that with the drink specials. $ 2 Boulevard Pilsners(!), $ 3 Boulevard Wheat and Pale Ales, and $ 1 off all imports left me stumbling out the first time, feeling delusions of grandeur and possibly believing myself to actually be English. We left quickly after paying and leaving a nice tip for the second game, the heartbreak had soured the mood and there was more beer to drink at my friend’s house. But from now on, I have an English home for their games with my ex-pat friends.

I’ve been meaning to come here for a while and had high hopes and expectations. In the end, I consider them fulfilled. First, I’m a Guinness snob. Very few places get it right or have it as tasty as it should be. The Gaf gets it right — perfectly poured, great temperature, clean and smooth taste. The food — I had corned beef and cabbage special, and my fiancé had chicken fingers with sweet potato fries. I was quite impressed with my corned beef and cabbage. The beef was plentiful for the price, and tasted great. It wasn’t nasty overly salty like so many corned beef dishes. It came with potatoes and carrots which were quite tasty. The chicken fingers were chicken fingers… hard to screw up, and they didn’t. It came with a smoky, sweet and slightly spicy BBQ sauce that was very enjoyable. Our server was very friendly as well — attentive and efficient. All in all, a nice visit to a place with a good atmosphere. I will certainly return.

My daughter and son-in-law are regulars here so of course we had to stop in. I can see why they like it so much. The staff are very friendly, the drinks good and the food quite tasty. This is an Irish themed bar that actually seems to be Irish, not just a bar with paper shamrocks and Guinness on tap. The Gaf is worth the stop.

Went for dinner last Friday, and it was very pleasant. Shepard’s pie was delicious, and my date had a turkey pesto sandwich that was really tasty too. They serve pear cider too, which is sometimes hard to find in KC. The back dining area has more of a family/older folks vibe to it, but the bar area is really nice. Service was fast and friendly. No complaints, we will be back!

My first time here and it was early around 11am. I stopped because of the sign promoting the authentic Irish breakfast from 11 – 3. The place is clean and very nice. Like stepping into an old Irish pub. The employees were nice except one guy, but by his attitude I would think his grumpiness came from a late night of drinking. Order the Irish breakfast of eggs, hashbrowns, beans, ham, tomatoes, blood sausage, bone marrow sausage, link sausages and toast. It was an amazing meal. And a decent price at $ 10.99 And plan many trips back to the Gaf and hopefully will return soon to see what their nightlife is all about.

Came here last year after the Manchester United vs Wizards game. I only tried the crab cakes, which were average at best, but the waitress was helpful and quick about bringing drinks which were priced right. Better selection than I thought. Had no problem getting a table by the bar despite the place filling up with soccer fans, restrooms were clean and plenty of parking in the area. No real complaints. Pros: –Not pricey. –Lots of Parking. –Clean. –Good server. Cons: –Mundane food.

The main reason I am giving this a 2 star is because there was almost nothing on the menu I could eat. Almost everything had dairy in it. I think the only things on the menu I could eat were the hamburger minus the cheese, rib eye minus the mashed potatoes, the french fries minus the gravy and the veggie burger. The burger was okay, just a burger nothing special. The music was way too loud. It was actually giving me and hubby headaches. I went to the bar to ask if they had Tylenol or Advil and the owner came over and said no we could get sued if we gave you anything and walked away. Kinda rude I thought. I just started asking women that had purses and one very nice young lady gave me some advil and her boyfriend who was from England invited us to leave with them and go to Kennedy’s which is a much better bar. We declined but thanked them since we were at the Gaf with other people. The waitress was also just ok. We had to ask for water and she wasn’t paying attention and pour water into a glass we were using for food that had fallen on the table. I will probably not go back. In fact the only reason we ended up at the Gaf was because everywhere else on Wornall had a hour wait for a table. The Gaf was pretty slow. Now I know why.

I had been avoiding The Gaf for years thinking it was an establishment for an older clientele. We were invited up to meet some friends the other night and guess what, I loved it. Am I of the«older clientele» age or was this just a good little place. Let me answer that for you, it’s just a good little place. We liked it so much that we went back a second time already. From the second we stepped in the door we were greeted with a smile and taken care of. It’s a bar and grill. It’s a nice and cozy place, not as small as I thought it would be as it goes far back into the building. I prefer a dirty little dive bar which The Gaf is nothing of. What is happening to me? It’s clean and homey. The one downside for me is the amount of tv’s throughout the place. I’m not a sports person and hate the flashing of the tv screens throughout the otherwise nicely lit space. The food is better than average bar food. It’s a large menu with many Irish dishes listed. I’ve had beer both times so can’t speak of the drink offerings, but from the look of the diverse crowd, I’m thinking they have a little bit of everything. It truly was a range of ages in this place. Everything from college kids to senior citizens. It looks like a lot of neighborhood people come here often. The service has been excellent both visits. From the hostess to the waitstaff. Friendly and inviting with the right amount of attentiveness. The owner/manager came by and asked how we were more than once and he seems extremely sincere when asking. The atmosphere screams that it’s a great place to catch up with friends while grabbing a bite to eat and washing down your favorite adult beverage.

Over priced over rated half assed Irish pub. And one extremely bitchy hostess who I was told was the owners wife. Nice! Parking sucks as well. I’d be hard pressed to find anything good to say about The Gaf.

The Gaf is pretty much my personal version of Cheers. I’m always greeted by name by the staff, and with a friendly smile.(I think there’s one staff person there I don’t know by name, but I still know them by sight.) This is another place where they know what I like to drink, and usually have it waiting in front of me as I’m sitting down. Everyone is really nice, the pours are generous, prices are reasonable, and the food is really quite decent.(My personal food recommendations include Curry Chips, Fish and Chips, the Irish Gut Bomb, the Spinach Salad, the Beef Pot Pie, and the Irish Chips.) The Gaf was my first real introduction to the KC Irish Bar«scene» and it’s pretty much as traditional as you’re going to get around here: Irish owned, and Irish frequented. They do have more TVs than your standard Irish pub *in* Ireland, but they also show sports that you’re often not going to see elsewhere around here, like Gaelic football. Once a month they have trad seisuns(traditional Irish music sessions where local musicians come in and seemingly improvise Irish songs for hours). I believe the seisuns take place on the third Saturday of the month, and they usually wrap up by around 6:30, so if you want to catch some music, go early. The place is a mad house on St. Paddy’s day and at 6:00pm on New Year’s Eve(which is midnight in Ireland). Other times, it’s hit or miss — sometimes it’s insanely busy there and you’re fighting to make it up to the bar, and other nights you’re able to sit and have a nice conversation with anyone around you, including the bartender. It’s a good place for groups, as there’s plenty of seating, but it’s also good place to hang out and have a few pints on your own or with your special someone. The music is never so loud that you can’t hold a decent conversation, and there’s outside seating for when the weather cooperates. If you’re looking for a good place to have a few drinks and experience a little bit of Irish pub life right here in KC, I suggest stopping in.

The Gaf is one of my new favorite places in Kansas City. When I lived in New York, my friends and I would sometimes visit a little bar in Hell’s Kitchen called The Gaf. So when I saw a bar called The Gaf spring up in Waldo, I became intrigued. Then, I get word from a law school friend who was dating someone from the Hell’s Kitchen Gaf(the manager or something, I wasn’t ever really paying attention) that confirmed it was indeed the same place. Apparently, they were looking to expand to someplace outside of New York City, and their research lead them to Waldo. Who knew? Anyway, my Gaf credentials now being sufficiently established, I can say I actually enjoy the Waldo Gaf much more than the HK version. It is an extremely chill place where everyone is friendly. Both the bar area and the dining room have plenty of tvs so that you can keep up with whatever game is on. The bar is especially cool because you can sit at the bar and stare out the big window onto the street, which, for me, has a very calming effect. And like all good Irish pubs, it has private booth areas that are big enough to hold all of your friends. The food there is pretty decent and reasonably priced. A buddy and I went there one night when the nightly special was ribs. As anyone in KC knows, it is rarely worth ordering ribs at a non-barbecue place(since good bbq is readily available), but the ribs were surprisingly decent at The Gaf. The Gaf burger is also a good choice, especially as they have wisely chosen McGonigle’s for their hamburger. Finally, this is one of the few places in KC that pours a decent pint of Guinness. You might think that it is easy to put some beer into a glass, but it is not. It is a skill bordering on art form. The bartenders at the Gaf get it right.
