The Webster House is one of the greater Kansas City’s gems! We went there for dinner about a week ago and loved it. The atmosphere is always very relaxing to us & the noise level is about right. We started out with the antipasto plate — the meat & cheese amount was just right and the macerated figs were so good I thought I could have them for dessert. For the main course, we ordered the roasted magret duck breast, the seared salmon and the braised lamb crepinette. The duck was a bit dry, but I ordered it medium, should have gone with med rare. The lamb was seasoned really well we couldn’t detect any gamey taste or aroma. And the bed of mashed sweet potato was delightful. The salmon was good as well, not much to complain about. We had a glass of Merlot each and it complimented the meal well. Then came the desserts. The chocolate earl pot de crème was so delicious I forgot what other desserts were. Overall we had a great evening! I highly recommend the Webster House.

This is a beautiful destination with mediocre food. Had salad with butternut squash, was a bowl of wilted arugula with 2 skinny slices of squash. Mussels were ok, broth was too bacony-bread for dipping was flabby toasted«baguette». Service was bad.

We can not say enough nice things about our recent visit to Webster House. We arrived 20minutes before our reservation and had a drink at the bar. The bar tender was very attentive and I had an old fashioned and my partner had a cosmo. They were both fantastic and of the best I have tasted in KC. Soon, the house manager came to escorts us from bar to our wonderful table over looking the skyline of KC. Our server was very professional and assisted us thru out our dinner assuring us first rate service. We both had steak, mussels app and a bottle of Dom Perigon champagne. I am a manager for a restaurant chain and I’m telling you, if your looking for a special place to go before the Kauffman Center performance or just a special romantic night out, I can not recommend the Webster House enough. Thank you to the entire staff and Bravo!

Wonderful brunch. You can not go wrong with the goat cheese pancakes! My husband had a mushroom quiche which he said was fantastic. The waiter was friendly and attentive. The only off setting thing was the hostess who scolded us for«checking» our coats ourselves when no one offered to.

Webster House is conveniently located walking distance from the Kauffman Center, which makes it an ideal spot to have dinner or drinks before or after a show. The restaurant is located on what used to be a school, according to exterior signage; an older brick building. The first thing we noticed heading to the restaurant was an overpowering sewer smell. Now, this was out on the street in front of the restaurant, not really their fault but still not a great first impression. The restaurant is located on the second story of the building, with the first floor devoted to selling clothes, antiques, souvenirs, and artisanal candles and soaps among other stuff. We were there fairly early and were seated in the bar area, a small quaint room across the hall from the main dining room. We started with the shrimp and grits and mushroom toast and they were both very good. We also had the grilled fillet and duck breast. While the entrees were good they weren’t as satisfying as the seemed on the menu. I find it hard to describe why I didn’t like the food, the au gratin potatoes were bland, and the fingerling potatoes bacon and green onion hash taste a bit sour. Considering the price and the setting, I was expecting to be more satisfied with the meal.

I want to like this place, I really do! I’ve tried brunch at Webster House twice with the ladies. I love the atmosphere! Antiquey, classy, comfortable, and very well decorated. Great place for a quite brunch with the girlfriends. I just wish the food lived up to the atmosphere. My first brunch I had the quiche as well as two other people at my table. It’s was awful. Tasted like rubber and I love quiche. This one just missed the mark. We also ordered fried green tomatoes, they were ok. I’ll stick to my grandmas. My second brunch we had the tro spreads and I had the steak Benedict. Again, just okay. Maybe I’ll just stay away from brunch…

I love that there’s a cute little shop below the restaurant. The BF and I arrived early to have a gander at the goodies they sell, which added a nice fun touch to the evening before our meal. The food was good. Both the BF and I had the smoked Campo Lindo chicken breast. My favorite course is always dessert, and it certainly did not disappoint. The Passion Fruit Trifle was delicious, and when I reached the bottom, I was scraping. The BF wasn’t as impressed with his. He ordered the Flourless Chocolate Fudge Torte, and said it tasted store-bought. I’ve never been a fan of tortes, so I can’t give an objective opinion. I would definitely come back, and with the inviting atmosphere, you can’t go wrong, despite its«fancier» price tag. Overall: 4⁄5 Service: 4⁄5 Food: 4⁄5 Atmosphere: 4.5÷5

I love the atmosphere of Webster House. It’s almost like stepping back in time to have dinner. The ambiance is nice and the old school house is a really beautiful setting for a restaurant. The shop downstairs is quaint and full of really neat items that you probably couldn’ find elsewhere in Kansas City very easily. The food was good-not great-but good. The service was decent. Webster House is a really sweet addition to the KC restaurant scene.

We came here for restaurant week and absolutely loved it! Nichole was our server– she was knowledgable, charming, and a great host! The food was good, but it’s really the service and atmosphere that make The Webster House spectacular!

Great smells! Inside an old school house, you enter into boutique shopping on the first floor where various sellers have hipster candles, hipster luggage, and hipster notepads for sale, among other items. You can easily kill 30 to 45 minutes before going upstairs to the restaurant. The building remains(I assume) largely unchanged, as the dining areas are split into separate rooms. Business casual to pretentious attire will suffice. Dark atmosphere.

Wow is all I can say about the Webster house!!! A friend and I were grabbing lunch downtown so we thought since it’s restaurant week we will try something we haven’t tried… Webster house was fabulous! The place itself is absolutely gorgeous… The food was wonderful and our server, Jason was superb! If you haven’t ever been there… GO!

11/28/2015 @ 5:00PM — I obviously missed the attire requirements for this place when looking up the restaurant. I wore a t-shirt and a sweatshirt hoodie so we were promptly seated off to the side in the bar area. The architecture and décor of this place are amazing! The entire downstairs is a antique store with many other items as well. The dinner menu is a bit limited but the items we ordered were absolutely delicious. We started off ordering the fried green tomatoes and the Merguez Meatballs(meatballs made with lamb). Both were prepared perfectly and delicious. Course two consisted of a grilled romaine salad and the soup of the day. Course two did not disappoint, both were outstanding. The main course and dessert were just as delicious as the appetizers, soup, and salad. The wife ordered Gnocchi Frito and thoroughly enjoyed it. My Grilled Ribeye was cooked perfectly and with the smashed potatoes was just absolutely excellent. To top it all off the Espresso Crème Brulé and Chocolate Turtle Cake were absolutely perfect. If you are heading to the Kauffman Center for a concert or show and want a fine meal beforehand be sure to call for reservations and enjoy! You park once since Webster House sits right in the shadow of Kauffman Center. They will validate your parking receipt if you park in the Webster garage but I am not sure what good it does. We went only for dinner spending no more than 90 minutes and we still had to pay $ 6 for parking. In all a great experience!

Every time I go to the opera I eat at the Webster House. It’s conveniently located next to the Kauffman Performing Arts Center, the food is excellent, the service is fantastic and they helped me surprise my then girlfriend with an engagement proposal. My fiancé and I have always loved going to the Webster House for our dates and they’ve made a lifetime member out of me.

This is such a lovely place for lunch. I wish I would have had time to shop a bit. Shared the fried green tomatoes which were awesome and the trio of spreads which was forgettable. I had the gnocchi and it was really good, not exactly what I expected but delicious. Shared the pumpkin cheesecake which was light and fluffy and really great.

Webster House has all the makings of a classy joint, complete with a historic building, beautiful antiques and trinkets to browse through, and just an overall beautiful space. That being said… the meals I have had here have something to be desired sometimes. My most recent visit was last week. My friend and I(who I had not seen in an entire year) were anxious to get seated and start catching up. We were seated in one of the side rooms. To my dismay, with several empty tables around us, we were seated against the row of windows next to two other tables, sandwiched right in the middle of them. The tables are SO close, so INTIMATE, that you really cannot visit without letting both of the other tables know your business, or bump elbows when trying to exit your seat. It’s just not that comfortable when you can make immediate and constant eye contact with your neighbor. Next, the waiter was friendly and very efficient. He told us of the specials and recommended his favorites for the day. We both had the grilled romaine steak salad. Sounded delicious. Tasted… not so much. The grilled romaine was actually pretty tasty, but there was so very little of it. Bummer. The homemade dressing underneath was yummy. The main part of this lunch plate, the grilled steak(recommended and ordered medium) arrived instead cooked well done, cool… and a little on the hard side. It was a little tough to chew and not a very enjoyable experience. What a bummer. The peach ginger crème brûlée sounded like something I’d love since I love a nicely prepared crème brûlée! It was a disappointment. It was very warm and runny for starters. Second, I found absolutely ZERO peach or ginger flavor in it at all. It actually had NO flavor at all. Strange. Maybe I’ve been enjoying crème brûlée wrong all these years, but I prefer the crème chilled with the sugary and crackled glaze on top. Again, I was disappointed by the outcome. I may need to try out Webster House again in the future, but I’m not certain about when. I’d hate to say it, but I’ve had better steak lunches elsewhere at chain restaurants for half the price. I sure hope the quality is better next time.

The Webster House offers a beautiful setting, with the historic charm, rich wood details and leather furniture harkening back to Vicotorian times. I didn’t realize there was an antique shop on the entry level, so we wandered around a bit before finding the stairs up to the dining area. We came for happy hour(4:30−6) on a Saturday– p. s love that they offer weekend HH. Seating is restricted to a smaller bar area, so plan to arrive early. The bartender was very informative about the drinks and recommendations. We selected the steak burger($ 10+ $ 1 for cheese) and the thyme dips with bleu cheese dip($ 7) and Guinness($ 3). The dip was so tasty. We could definitely get it again. The burger was nothing special, so we’d likely skip that but overall, I liked the happy hour, which allowed us to enjoy the Webster House experience for a fraction of the fine-dining cost. The draft beers($ 3) and house wine($ 5/glass) were good deals, while classic cocktails(Manhattan, Gimlet etc) were $ 7 – 8. The ambiance in the bar was nice, with high-top leather seats and stained glass windows. If I came for dinner, I think I would request seating in one of the other dining rooms, away from the bar.

Sat at the chef counter and were entertained watching chefs make beautiful creations. We started with the fried green tomatoes which were excellent. I had the shrimp and grits which was out of his world. Hubs had the steak burger and said it was delish, a top 5 burger in the KC metro. Such a fun experience — we look forward to coming back!

I’d been here to shop, but not to eat… until last Sunday. We made a reservation for 4 for brunch. Our server was wonderful. He heard us discussing that we’d not dined there before, so he gave us a pretty detailed description of our options and was helpful with recommendations. Two chose the steak(cooked to perfection, melt in your mouth) Benedict with a potato pancake. There was also a chicken dish and yummy biscuits and gravy. Coffee, bottomless mimosas, and bloody marys made with Guinness! Brunch was an absolute treat and we all agreed we’d return. I have to mention the bathroom. Can I just take the whole room home, please?! Seems funny to mention a bathroom, but of all the cool bathrooms I’ve seen, the charm is fantastic. We shopped downstairs before leaving. There are notes everywhere that let you know you’re on camera. We’re not thieves, but the male employee who followed us around made it a little awkward. One of us made a purchase… I hope that eased their concern. There’s a party/event room on the 2nd floor that’s worth checking out for what seemed like would comfortably welcome maybe 75 people? Go here.

Came for Valentine’s Day and they had a 3 or 4 course prix fix menu. We went with the 3 course. First of all, beautiful building. Restaurant is upstairs and divided into various rooms. There was live music in the background, it was very romantic. Just what you want for Valentine’s Day dinner. And the food… so delicious. Well cooked steak and also really excellent cocktails. Would love to come back to the bar sometime here.

I was able to check out this unique, Victorian looking restaurant during KC Restaurant Week. It’s a huge space, and a space I’m sure does very well around the Kauffman Center events. My overall feel is that it’s a great spot to go with your mom or mother-in-law. There’s an antique shop with European centric goodies and jewelry downstairs. The restaurant upstairs is well decorated and spans several rooms. I really liked the stained glass windows and views of the city out of each window. Food wise, it was pretty good but not amazing. I had the grilled cheese short rib sandwich, and while this sandwich seems to be all the rage lately, I was a tad disappointed. It was essentially on a hamburger bun and most of the cheese was isolated to my first few bites. I need all the cheese. Some of the other dishes looked better, so I’d definitely be willing to give it another shot, and the service was great. I think it’s a good spot for a lot of people, but not a place that I would likely frequent based on my tastes.
