Very, very, very good sliced beef sandwich. Not much else I can recommend except that they play classic country and western music. So…go here for lunch and get it to go. Otherwise, better to skip it.

Nonmacher’s Bar-B-Que is real-good-done-right BBQ. We had the 3 meat plate(big enough to share). Flavor and tenderness were on point. The staff was down-home friendly. Easily now our favorite place to get our Texas cuisine fix.

Had driven by for years and tried one day. Never even noticed the poster on the wall but I had not read the reviews. Did not know they did not take credit the first time I stopped by so had to go back. Ordered to go. BBQ was good, portions were fair.

Excellent BBQ! Loved the family feel and the southern hospitality! Had the pulled pork sandwich and potato salad! Amazing!

The chopped beef sandwich is not bad. I wonder if they put MSG in the bbq sauce. One thing is for sure, the fact that the lady that works there smokes cigarettes in the place is disturbing.

Lots of fake negative reviews on this place based on people being offended by a poster. Too bad, because the Unilocal rating can’t be relied upon to make a choice. That said, based on the food alone, this is not the place in Katy to spend your money on BBQ. I’ve tried it twice and in both cases the brisket was a bit dry though the flavor wasn’t bad; sauce wasn’t helpful. Of course, in my mind, if I am inclined to reach for sauce after taking a bite of my BBQ, the place has already lost a point. I’m wondering how they’ve lasted so long… they’re just too many decent to good alternatives nearby. FWIW, I never had a problem with the poster.

Stopped in here on a whim after shooting today. Had never heard or read reviews on Unilocal until just now. I didn’t notice any offensive posters but as usual, if it didn’t involve meat I wasn’t paying any attention. The first thing I did notice was the server open a warming drawer and raw dog my brisket with his bare hands. I have become a germophobe of sorts and prefer to see gloves on anyone that touches my foods. My ribs were manhandled off the rack in the same fashion. Brisket — the bark was like a black thin layer of film like a sushi wrap roll but devoid of any flavor that contributed in a positive way to the meat. There was a smoke flavor but it was pretty dry, been in the drawer too long. Ribs — were full ribs, not St. Louis cut. I didn’t care for the flavor rub on them, something was off in the rub mixture and they were pretty chewy. Sauce — warm tomato based sauce but I didn’t feel it helped their meats out any. Chopped beef sandwich — I had my chopped beef expert with me for the meal and he didn’t care for it at all, said the sauce didn’t go well with it. I couldn’t get over a 2 * based on my visit. Sadly I’m not finding many BBQ places near my house I would return to. We didn’t order much and it came to over $ 17 too.

Brisket was ok, but nothing to brag about. Ribs were terrible… I could barely chew it, seemed like a beef jerky rib… They drenched all of my food in sauce, which honestly I’m glad they did, because that’s the only way I could eat it. Expenseive for the quality… don’t mind stopping here, go to Rudy’s or the 25 minute trek to Brooks Place

12÷7÷1212:30pm — Always wanted to try this place after their Cowboys & Iranians poster made the news. If you are looking for Texas barbecue done right, Nonmacher’s has been doing it since 1978. I scored Nonmacher’s 86 out of 100. This is Reserve Grand Champion Texas Barbecue. Smoke: Real pit barbecue with Oak. Brisket: Great. ½″ smoke ring! Wow, this was a big smoke ring with dual colors. Outside was dark pink and inside was pink. Snap apart no knife needed tender. A brisket cooked right. No rub and mild smoke flavor. Use the sauce. Ribs: Good. Soft bite with little crust but tender overall. No rub detected. Mild smoke flavor. Use the sauce. Sausage: Good. Run of the mill link sausage. Overall flavor was average and there was a little grease. Use the sauce. Sauce: Good. it was fresh and served warm. A tomato vinegar based sauce. Above average flavor and it made everything taste better. It compliments all the meats so use with every bite. Bring cash or a check. No credit or debit cards accepted.

I have been driving past Nonmacher’s everyday on my way home from work since moving out to Katy a few months ago and it has been on my list of places to try. I stopped in around 7:40 they close at 7:59, the times are posted on the front door. The lady behind the counter was friendly and took my order with a smile. Some places that you go to that close to closing time the employes tend to get a little annoyed, but not here. I ordered a chopped beef sandwich to go, it came to $ 6.50 with tax. Back in the car heading home, green lights all the way down Mason, woo hoo, The delicious smell of smoked BBQ is filling the car, I keep looking at the paper bag next to me, my mouth watering. Finally at home and ready to chow down on some good BBQ. Open the bag, and take a look at what I have been waiting for only to discover a sandwich the looks like a sloppy joe or manwich(see pics). It doesn’t look like any chopped beef sandwich that I have ever seen. Where is the chucks of chopped brisket? Why does this look like it has been run through a blender? How can something that smells this great look that unappetizing? First bite, hello… hello… where’s the flavor, all I’m getting is a mushy texture of something… what could it be… Well I’m still not sure, but I can tell you what its not. It’s not chopped beef. I have to say I am really disappointed. I cant even bring myself to finish this sandwich. I feel bad leaving one star. But, if I am unable to eat the food and it ends up going in the trash, Its going to be a one star rating. I cant say how any of the other menu items here are, but I for one will not be going back to find out.

I was driving down Mason and the smell of amazing BBQ stopped me in my tracks. Pulled a quick U-turn and popped in for lunch. Ordered the loaded baked potato with BBQ an a sweet tea. It was fantastic. The staff, more than accommodating. I had forgotten this was the place with the«cowboy and Iranians» poster. Actually had to search for it on the wall. Glad to see they didn’t give in to the pressure of taking it down.

So I’ve heard all the talk about the picture on the wall and I was torn, so I had to stop by and see it for myself when grabbing some BBQ for quite possibly the last time. I love the food and the workers have always been friendly over the years, a picture on the wall doesn’t change any of that. I don’t know how, but I never even noticed the picture in over 25 years of going here and I’ve never heard of Nonmachers discriminating against any of their customers. However, I agree that the picture is over the line even if it’s meant as a joke. I respect a private business’s decision to post whatever pictures they want, but IMO this is a poor business decision and will ultimately lead to lost revenue for Mr. Nonmacher and his family. In this day in age of social media and sites like Unilocal, business’s need to be on their best behavior. I’d also like to point out two things. 1. If this were the other way around and a picture had an American hanging from a tree and posted at a Middle East restaurant in Katy, 10 fold the amount of people would be up in arms. 2. People chiming in with the«right to free speech» comments need to go back read the First Amendment again, it doesn’t cover Hate Speech, which if you are somehow arguing that a picture falls under the First, your argument is dead before it even left your keyboard anyhow. So what’s one to think about all this? IMO It ultimately comes down to what kind of business does a person want their dollars to support? As much as I enjoyed the food and friendly service in the past, I will not be supporting these type of business practices in the future. Final thought. Nonmacher’s, why couldn’t you just keep your thoughts and opinions to yourself? Ignorance could have continued to be bliss for me, it’s a real let down for a long time loyal customer.

Oh the reason I ended up here. Well I hear about this place because sompe people are«offended» at some stupid poster. My wife and I are in town on business and want to check out the supposed ruckus and also the food. We love BBQ after all. They don’t have BBQ chicken which my wife loves but no place is perfect. But overall it isn’t bad. We’ve had better before. As far as all the one star reviews, if they are after 10÷25÷11 then ignore them. They are from a bunch of bored, malcontent liars who most if not all never been to the place or talked to them on the phone. They are simply trying to hurt the mans business. This site is for rating the food and service of a place not to score some political points.

Unilocal sent me an email saying i’ve never been to this restaurant and my comment was deleted. I have been here and I believe their racist tendencies are a part of the restaurants’ «service» which frequently gets reviewed on Unilocal.I dont know why Unilocal would stand up for a place that would be a part of such racism, but they should look into the«5 star» raitings below which were left from recently opened accounts with no review history. My history plainly shows I review restaurants all over the US as I travel alot and have family everywhere from Seattle to Virginia to Texas and back. I wish to leave a review of the restaurants service which included a racist poster which i noticed in there… and that is solely what my review is based on. If Unilocal further wants me to prove when I was in Texas i can produce airplane ticket stubs to verify the validity of my review.

Worse place to not only get bbq! Not only that it has a poster on the wall saying«let’s play cowboys and Iranians» and the people that work there are proud of it. If you make a comment to them about it they will try to kick you out. Bad food, Bad people, and bad environment… STAYAWAY!

Is this place a joke? After placing my order, I noticed a poster on the wall stating, «Lets Play Cowboys and Iranians.» Someone actually added this poster to their picture section. Greatly offended, I asked the owner why he has it up there and it should be taken down. Rudely, he stated that I should get my BBQ elsewhere if I don’t appreciate his historical poster. If you enjoy promoting and sponsoring ignorance, and racism, then go on ahead. I didn’t even have a chance to try the meal.

I would leave 0 stars but it’s not an option… Terrible service, the lady who answers the phone is so rude — sounds like large marge They hang racist posters in the restaurant!!! Obviously the management lacks any level of formal education, I am surprised they can even read the racist signs they hang…

oh wow, oh man! I came to this place in June of 2009. It was something I was searching while working in Houston, Authentic BBQ. I was fortunate to come on a Thursday(White bean and ham) to come and try this place out. If your looking for the hole in the wall place in Houston, this is it! Every time I come into town, I leave the airport and drive straight there to get my Jonesing on! Mr NonMacher’s is a great guy! Always have great conversations with him and his staff which are family. I cannot say there menu is huge but I see them more of a specialty. They cook their beef brisket for 16hrs prior to serving, slow cooking to get all the juices just right. They have an awesome Iced tea(home maid) their decore is full of old style photos of the owner and just people back in the day when it was a simpler time, but it gives character to the place. Ribs: are pork and awesome Sausage: amazing with a spice to it. Cole slaw and beans: just great. I will always return, always!
