All I can say this is a hidden gem in Katy! The food is amazing and the waiter was extremely knowledgeable about the wines. He also brought out samples to try. The wine bar is located in a shopping strip that is aged, but don’t let that discourage you from going there. The interior décor is nicely done. I like the fact that you can show up in very casual clothes or for a special occasion dress up! We will definitely go back again!

All I can say is WOW! This lovely local gem completely exceeded already high expectations. The server knew SO much about wine and was able to give us many wonderful recommendations. I could go on and on about the incredible wine, but I need to address the amazing food and atmosphere. I’m from Chicago, and the bar section rivals some of my favorite spots in my Chitown. There was live music, jazz while I was there, and the entire set up is just so swanky and upscale. Absolutely loved it. Then there was the food. It. Was. Spectacular! We had a group of six, and every single thing we got was scrumptious! To name a few, the alligator bits, seared tuna, flatbreads, steak, sides, all too good for words. In short, if I lived in Katy, this would hands down be my go-to spot. Thanks for such an incredible experience Cellar Door, I’ll definitely be back next time I’m in Katy!

Let’s face it. This is a wine bar, not a restaurant. Our waiter was very knowledgeable about the wine choices, but he wisely distanced himself from the menu. My blackened scallops were over seasoned and over cooked. The room that they sat us in was a glorified storage room with zero atmosphere, and very little attention from the staff. If you want a nice night out, go somewhere else, unless all you want is a good glass of wine.

Mediocre experience. Steak was ok, but not great. Service was ok, but not great. Not terrible, but I won’t go out of my way to make a return visit.

Great experience just wish the prices were lower so we could come more often. We ordered the NY strips, truffle fries, mash potatoes, and Mac n cheese. Everything was cooked to perfection, kenny was amazing guitarist, and when asked our waitress brought us a decanter. The wine was a 50⁄50 syrah/zin called the federalist(we loved it). For desert we had the haak wine w/crème brûlée(best ive had in a while) Thanks! !

Like my last review said, I had issues with leaving the wine club. It was resolved, although it took some time. Place Is nice inside and food was pretty good, especially the cheese board.

Very good food and amazing wine selection. I especially like how they have their own wines to try. They also had live music performers there which were decent. Overall the experience was very good.

My wife and I went here for the live music on a Friday night, and I was not disappointed. The Jazz was great. We had a wonderful time. The food and wine were really good. It has a very nice ambiance and décor. The food prices were a little too expensive in my opinion, and the host and wait staff(while good) could have been friendlier. A great place here in Katy, and I am thankful it is in our area. I really don’t like having to drive for miles and miles into Houston to find this kind of experience. Thank you Cellar Door! :) We’ll be back.

The reviews looked really great but for us it was a miss! We made reservations online for 7:30. I called to find out if they served beer and they said No but it is BYOB so that was very nice for them to accommodate non-wine drinkers. We were seated right away. But then we were not even acknowledged for a solid 15+ minutes. We were very tempted to get up and walk out. Once we were finally acknowledged, we gave our wine order and even though our waiter didn’t ask, we gave him our appetizer order(they had a page of specials so we ordered the Lobster Bisque $ 6 off that and their Southwest Chicken Soup $ 6). We could tell that food was going to take a while as there were four other tables in our section and no one had food. The one large group in our section was having their food come out in batches. The waiter returned to tell us they were out of the chicken soup. We were irritated as it was so, we didn’t bother to order anything else. Our wine then followed and we quickly ordered our dinner before he left our table because we didn’t know when he would be back. It was at this point we were told the kitchen was backed up and food was taking awhile. We ordered Blackened Mahi($ 21) and Blackened Scallops($ 28) — both which come with their own sides. The others in our group ordered dishes that did not come with sides — Southern Pork Chop($ 20) and Filet($ 35). The sides they ordered — Mac and cheese(on special menu $ 8), Sauteed mushrooms($ 8) and Garlic mash potatoes($ 8). Our Lobster Bisque finally came out at 8:15. It was not Lobster Bisque. It was burning hot, almost to the point of curdling, no chunks of lobster or lobster flavor and tasted like a watery cheese soup. The sad thing was is we would have complained if anyone checked on us or even came close by our table but we were so hungry at this point so we just ate it. So then we waited and waited. No water refills. Filled our own wine glasses(mind you this is a Wine Bar/Restaurant). We saw one other hungry table that received bread. So after waving our arms and flagging someone down, we asked(begged) for bread and we were then served a hot loaf with butter. Now, if you know you behind in the kitchen, ask/bring your tables bread — that is just common sense! At 9:15(one hour and 45 mins later), our dinner arrives in batches. The first to arrive was the Mac. We were all so hungry, we all just dipped our forks in the bowl and ate. I would rate the Mac 5 stars. Creamy yet had that crunchy, cheesy topping. The Mahi was well done — the Cajun cream sauce had a nice kick to it. The scallops were done well but the smoked Gouda polenta had no taste. The filet was just okay, nothing great. The pork chop was meh — 2 pork chops topped with dijon mustard. The mushrooms were drenched in a Cabernet sauce — definitely needed to be reduced down a lot more. And the potatoes were nothing to write home about either. The experience brought this rating to a 2 star for me. I could have given the food 2.5 or 3 stars but not for the price. I am happy to pay those prices for great food and service, not just good food.

Well I talked my husband into going there tonight for dinner. The wedge salad was great and the hummus. Went down from there. His fettuccine Alfredo with shrimp came out with spaghetti, while the taste was good. I had the special stake it was a bit cold. We asked the waitress if the fettuccine was to come this way and she said no, want me to remake it. He said no since he was ¾ done. The chef stopped by and we asked him as well. oh sorry they grabbed the wrong noodles. Want us to remake it. Not the answer we were looking to hear. So they are lacking in food edequite when they screw up. I’m sorry is not enough. They should have offered to discount the bill, offer us a dessert or a free appetizer on our next visit…

First of all this place does not go with the location, but the food is great, everything tastes fresh. They only have one page of food items, and about 4 of just wines, which is fine by me, haha. Also, on Saturday nights they have a guitarist that plays really good. One thing that I disliked was that my crème brûlée was very watery, but they took it off the bill.

Super yummy food, great wine selection, and wonderful live music. The atmosphere makes me think I’m in a little French country town bistro enjoying a glass of wine. Definitely takes you out of Katy and into Europe.

I’m more of a vodka fan than a wine fan but after the reviews and pictures here on Unilocal I had to give this place a try. I lean more towards restaurants in City Centre and The Heights however I was thoroughly impressed with the menu. The live music they had was great and very relaxing, which was perfect for what we needed that night. This place is in a strip mall, don’t judge it based on that fact, what you see inside is what you would expect to see in The Heights. This place is great, definitely a must try.

Stopped by for lunch. The décor makes you feel like you’re having lunch in Tuscany. The lunch special is a reasonable price with a fresh salad and flavorful sandwich. The manager is very good and makes him self available to assist with wine selections. They have their own wines plus about 200 others. I will certainly be back for lunch again and the evening wine tasting and live music. Great lunch experience!!!

This review is for the wine class and subsequent cheese platter we ordered. If you’re a lover of wine, read on… The boyfriend and I were looking for another wine class after we enjoyed our first one. We found a Groupon for this place, which is a bit far out given that we live in Central Houston, but we were happy to give it a shot. From the outside you may not be completely impressed, but inside you truly feel like you’re in a wine bar with a darker atmosphere and an awesome wine selection. We were one of 3 couples there for the class, and we had a few sheets in front of us listing the wine pairings we would have and an aroma chart. The wine pairings are done with cheese for the whites and chocolates for the reds from Araya’s chocolates. I will admit at first the class was going a bit slowly for me, as it went over a lot of the basics I had learned at my other wine class, but soon this instructor raised the bar. He explained to us the differences in the varietals, which I really appreciated, and he explained the pairing. The pairings were AMAZING. I had never tasted pairings that were so well done, and it made me enjoy each varietal and cheese/chocolate even though I know I wouldn’t have liked them on their own. We tried a total of 6 wines, a couple of which I really enjoyed and the rest which paired well with the food and for the course but were not my favorite. At the end of the class you can buy the wines for a discounted price, and my boyfriend decided to do that and have it right then and there with a large cheese plate, Napa Grande. My boyfriend and I really enjoyed the cheese plate, and even though it’s $ 20, which is a bit pricey, we did feel like we got a good amount for the price. The couple next to us got and enjoyed the truffle fries. They said they were the 2nd best they had, giving the winning title to a place in Orlando. Given their recommendation, I would happily try this when we return. They have a full menu, and our instructor explained that everything is meant to pair with a wine they offer. If you’re interested in a pairing, the staff there is extremely knowledgeable, and I would definitely trust them to make a great recommendation. We will certainly come back here, despite the 20 mile trek, because it was just that good. I would highly recommend this as a fun date night, either with the wine class or just with the wine and some food.

I really liked this place! It’s smaller than I imagined but they have a really good selection of wine. We had a bottle of their Pinotage, which you don’t find everywhere was great!!! We also had a flag bread pizza and it was delicious! The service was great and it’s mostly why I gave them 5 stars. We were on a hurry because we had a concert to go to and we told our waiter and he brought out everything so quickly! Love love love!

If you like wine with food, this place great. If you don’t like wine, there may not be enough here for you to be satisfied. No beer or liquor here. The restaurant is divided into 2 sections. A lounge, for sitting around casually and having wine and snacks with friends. A restaurant, for a standard dining experience The wine selection was well rounded. Women at our table enjoyed the«Girls Night Out» peach wine. There were also some great Cabernets and Chardonnays. Wine lovers will find something to like here. A few people at our table asked for samples before ordering and some samples were provided. The food is good. The appetizers were well received at the table. The hummus and the empanadas were very good. The steaks and pork chops were also very good. In fact, everyone at our table commented about how good the food was. Side dishes were well prepared. The service was friendly, but slow. All of the bottles of wine at our table were empty before the food arrived. Over an hour from the time we ordered until the food arrived. I asked to speak with a manager a few time, but was told he was not in. –1 star for the 1+hour wait for food. –1 star for the barely warm steak.

Stepping into this place made me forget I was in the back of a suburban strip mall. From the layout to the lighting, The Cellar Door does a great job setting a welcoming environment. There is plenty of seating, from lounge booths to high-tops as well as a bar. They even have a small«fireplace» you can lounge in front of while enjoying your libation of choice. I really dig the«wine cellar» feel of the place. The staff is very friendly and provides excellent service. They are very knowledgeable about their wines and how to pair them with the items on their menu. The sliders are pretty good. The fries that came with the sliders were pretty good as well. Not as seasoned as I’d like, but good nonetheless. If you like tuna, you’ll love the Kochi. Mine was perfectly seared, light and fresh. As others have said, the atmosphere is great. I thoroughly enjoyed myself each time I came here and will definitely keep coming back.
