Watched a beautiful sunrise on the beach this morning. Locally called 20 mile beach, small but we were the only ones there. Great way to start off your east end adventure.

Murphy’s Beach is on Molokai’s southeast shore 20 miles east of Kaunakakai on Highway 460, and coz o’ dis is AKA Twenty Mile Beach. I think AKA Kumimi Beach Park, also. Three beaches in one. No facilities so bring no high maka maka girl here, brah. Not 2 Molokai ewa, fo’ dat matta. Murphy’s Beach is a narrow white-sand beach shaded by some shrubbery and palm trees. The beaches along Molokai’s south shore aren’t that great for swimming b/c the near-shore is super shallow and the water murky — maybe from the fish ponds. However, Murphy’s Beach is exceptionally clear when the ocean is calm, which was the day we drove east to Halawa Valley. Of course it’s a good fishing spot all around here due to the sixty or so fish ponds all along the south-east shore. Almost no-one fishing, either. Lanai is RIGHTTHERE in front of you. And Maui is to the left. Very cool. The swimming conditions were ono. Would have been good snorkelling, but we left our gear in Kailua. There is shallow reef with patches of sand. Started to swim beyond the reef and felt those treacherous currents again. Didn’t want to die this day, so went back towards shore. When you’re the ONLYONE out there, it feels kinda ominous when those currents start to tug at you. BYO lifeguard. I hear the fire department will rescue you with a jet ski — if you’re lucky of course. You can park your car right next to the beach and crank your tunes while you lounge in the shade just five feet from the water. Next up the coolest thing happened: the birds in the trees started singing along with our music. The birds were so happy to be there and so were we. Mahalos yeah fo’ checkin’ out dis place.
