I am so glad I tried this place considering their poke is amazingly fresh and delicious. I ended up getting a scoop of brown rice, some wasabi poke and j dog poke over a crab cake. The crab cake was pretty good and the poke itself was amazing. The J dog had a nice spicy kick to it while the wasabi seemed a little more sweet. I just wish they gave me a little more poke for the price that I paid. Seating indoors is limited and if you have to go to the bathroom you have to go outside to the port-o-potty. Overall, I would come back for the poke.

The food here is amazing. Lobster&crab cake is worth getting. I prefer mine over rice with ocean salad. All of the fish is delicious. Best fish we had the whole trip. Their specials of the day are always worth it. We came here twice. It’s the only place we bothered to re-visit. it was that good! Their salmon poke and kimchi tako poke is highly recommended.

Great experience! We were recommended to try the crab cake and Ono sandwich… it was awesome! Big portions and a complimentary piece strawberry cake… mmm

This place was recommended by our concierge. No frills local owned business. Yes, the restroom is a port-a-potty outside. Consider yourself warned. We got fish + crab cake sandwich with the lilikoi sauce, comes with potato chips. Fresh and delicious. Also tried J-dog poke, which we enjoyed as well. Nice & friendly folks, gave us free mini lilikoi dessert which was super good. Quick yummy bite if you’re in the area.

I had the poke sampler here and fiancé enjoyed the Friday Aloha special skirt steak plate. The poke here is cut very chunky and thick and the marinade is heavy handed so it was super flavorful. The skirt steak was a little too gristly to cut with the plastic knife so we had to borrow one of theirs from the kitchen. I regret not ordering the daily fish special.

Don’t judge this place by how it looks from the road. all I can say is WOW. The woman behind the counter was so nice to us gentiles from Indiana, having no idea that Poke isn’t a type of fish(it’s how the fish is prepared, apparently :)). She let us sample a few options, and we were thrilled w/our choices. This restaurant is cheaper than anything we ate while in Hawaii, and was the best food of the trip. I’d suggest going w/the deluxe, as it adds a crab cake to your dish. When you are driving through to Captain Cook, don’t pass this place over. It’s a gem.

Horrible! Don’t be fooled by the reviews like we were. Filthy dirty. Restroom was a port-o-potty in dirt parking lot. We left before ordering as appalled by conditions and they were out of 90%of menu items anyway.

Tried this for the first time and got the poke bowl supreme. It’s a lobster crab cake topped with your choice of poke and a scoop of white or brown rice for $ 11.99. The poke was okay about ¼ lb but there were large chunks and a lot of tsuji in my pieces. The lobster crab cake was amazing and I’d go there just for that. They also had a miso wasabi poke that my friends had said the miso was overwhelming. It was nice to eat the poke in their AC part of their store.

The j dog poke had really good flavor, but the pieces were slightly large and stringy. The lobster and crab cake is amazing. Definitely order those on rice. The crab cake and fish sandwich is good too. I like the sauce it comes with. Stop here if you’re in the area!

Aloha! I found this place more less randomly! This was the best discovery ever! If you want to eat fresh, grilled fish, this is the place! Forget anything else. Update: I’m back again… The best food EVER! Mahalo for reading this!

Poke Deluxe bowl with crab/lobster cake and two poke choices + rice. I liked this place a lot more than Da Poke Shack.

Yet another great Captain Cook based fish place that blew my mind. Poke, grilled fish, and more,… damn good ad damn friendly. We had Ono special and crab cakes. Broiled and all flavourful. We met a couple there that had gone every 2nd day of their vacation. Don’r expect more than foldable tables,… but do you need more with food like this?

All I can say is Wow, we shared the Poke sampler(which we have never had before). The only problem was that I had no idea what I was eating(I just let the lady behind the counter choose for us), All I know is it was great. . We watched a lot of people going in for takeout, lots of locals which is usually a good sign. It is a plain building that if it wasn’t open you would miss it..

It’s really a shame that this is kind of out of the way. I think if this was closer in town it would be super popular. The poke here is amazing, the pieces of fish they use are super big and the seasoning is very flavourful. Try the salmon poke! Fattier than the tuna so it gives a really good flavour. Another must try is the lobster cake. It’s very creamy and will melt in your mouth and fill it with a delicious lobster flavour.

Found out about this place from the lady at the concierge desk at our hotel. She recommended the fish sandwich with a crabcake on top. It was a little hard to find but there was a small sign on the street which helped. They have an array of poke and we had never seen the abalone poke before so the girl taking our order gave us a sample of it. It was in a soy sauce marinade and was pretty good. We got 0.25lbs of it, $ 12.99/lb. We ordered the above mentioned sand which which comes with potato chips and a crab cake plate with brown rice which comes with a seaweed salad. Overall taste was awesome. There were two tables inside where you can eat but it seems like most people take it to go. Would definitely come back if in the area!

I came here after looking at Unilocal for a few places to eat. I ordered the crab cakes and I thought they were very flavorful and tasty, but were cooked a little too long. They weren’t burnt, but were extra crispy. Best part was the contrast of the marinated Seaweed. I had some of the other poke and the J Dog tasted fresh and delicious. I tried to get some of the dried albacore, but they were out. Owner is nice. He knew that my meal was ‘s snack lol.

During my week-long trip to the big island, I tried a handful of poke places all across the island, and I’d have to say that Sundried Specialties was my favorite. I ordered some Salmon Poke and Spicy Ahi Poke by the pound. Both were incredibly tender, had excellent flavoring, and just tasted fresher than any other poke I tried. Plus, it was reasonably priced compared to most other places I checked out. Very highly recommended! My wife tried their Grilled Salmon plate with seaweed salad and rice. She really enjoyed her food. The salmon was perfectly grilled, being slightly charred on the outside but still tender on the inside. Great flavors, too. The seaweed salad was light and fresh. There’s some seating inside, and it’s enough for a small group. The service was super friendly, and it was just overall an unexpectedly amazing meal.

We came in here thinking it was the place that manufactured the packaged dried marlin jerky we love so much — instead we found a true gourmet restaurant camouflaged in a hole-in-the-wall walkup counter. I simply was astounded at the flavor and presentation of my monchong(spelling?) fish and crab cake special. Served in eco-friendly cardboard container. Also got ¼lb dried ahi — later regretted not getting 4x more. And we kept going back — best meals we had on our vacation. Fantastic. In fact this might be one place I wish I could go ‘6star’ as the food was 5 star and I usually add a star for value/ecofriendly. Make sure you follow them on instagram/facebook to make your belly rumble all year long.
