Sky Creek Ranch Golf Club

This is one of the best courses I’ve played since moving to DFW. Yesterday’s conditions were less than ideal with all the rain over the last few days, however, the staff did a superhuman job of making it playable. 17 of the 18 holes have water in play, so more than enough of a challenge for me. Staff was very kind, and worked hard to make it a great experience. Just walking down into the course from the clubhouse was impressive enough to wow my brother who was visiting from Michigan.

Poor service. Good challenging golf course. $ 80+ per round with poor customer service. Discounts are available but hard too find. No GPS on carts, they have a smart phone app which is decent. The course is in good shape, challenging, pace of play is good, seem to be short staffed at peak times, Bar & grill is mediocre, cart girls service mediocre (disappear after a couple of passes). Pro shop is good at taking your money. Cart staff does not offer to clean clubs. Grounds crew walks on to the green while sizing up your shot. Twilight starts at 3PM-​even if the course is empty, the charge full rate.
Coyote Ridge in Carrollton (15 minutes NE via 121) offers $ 40 at 1PM.

This is a great course with a great staff. The course is tough with some narrow fairways and the elevated greens will punish you for missing them. Greens are coming in nicely after being punched at the beginning of last week. Cart ladies are the best ;)

Sky Creek Ranch is over 45 mins from my house in Dallas but is always well worth the drive. There are no daily fee courses in my area that come close to comparing to the experience. I played golf collegiately and have played courses worldwide — SCR is hands down one of my favorites and is always a great challenge. A little known secret is that the restaurant is amazing. I highly recommend SCR and can’t wait for my next visit.

Overpriced, very difficult and narrow and not in very good shape. That’s the jist of this course.
I went here last Saturday with my usual golf cronies. We wanted to try someplace new. This looked promising; it was expensive (so it must be good, right?), it was in a nice neighborhood, and even the name of the place sounded pseudo-​swanky.
Well, the clubhouse is really nice. It’s a little odd in that the parking lot (s) are below the clubhouse: You have to run up this giant staircase to get to the pro shop. But is a really nice clubhouse. Bar/​restaurant in the lower level was very nice looking. There was even a small private room if you needed it.
The practice facility is great — open driving range! Free range balls to hit! But don’t think you can sneak on there — the guy managing the starter has an eagle eye and will ask you what team you’re with, etc. But it was a great driving range — nice and open and easy to see how far you hit.
The course itself is not in good shape. Fairways and rough were fine. Tee boxes were ok. The greens were some of the worst I’ve seen. Super-​soft and many weird patches of dirt or different grass or mud. You couldn’t hit a straight putt to save your life. I fixed divots on the greens, and I would pull up what looked like damp sand, instead of dirt. Many divots and nicks and scratches all over the greens.
The course is very narrow, and the first 6 holes or so had ravines (deep ditches/​creeks). Many of the greens are propped up — meaning that all sides of the green have SUPER STEEP hills. If you’re not on that green, your ball is lost. It was laughable. I wouldn’t call it «challenging» just bad planning. It’s like they tried to squeeze a golf course among a housing development.
And let me tell you this: There must be some law here whereby every home along the course has a yippy dog. Even on the first tee– some goofball kids were on their back deck making their dog howl! I’m not kidding — mere feet from the tee, this idiot teenager is out there with his friends howling at his dog who would howl back! You’re on a GOLF COURSE. SHUT UP! Many houses all along the course would have barking dogs. That got old real quick.
It’s super expensive for what you get. $ 80 to play 18 before 2:00. We started at 2:00 and paid $ 50 (with cart). We only got in 15 holes because the people in front of us were so slow and it got dark super early.
I’ll never be playing here again. It’s in bad shape, poorly designed, and just way too expensive for what you get.

I came here for a work bonding event. It’s a decent, fairly priced course. It was also not overly crowded. I loved the drinks/​snacks caddy that made stops along the route — nice bloody mary’s!

I’m ok with paying a little extra for a nice course every now and then too bad I just paid extra this time. The greens were shot with more than a few rough spots. I’ve paid the same amount to play at The Tribute before, so I felt like I got robbed on course quality.
PLUS, some jerk came driving up on our 4some WHILE on the green putting on a par 3 and accused us of taking his ball… Never going back.

Good layout, great bent grass greens by Robert Trent Jones, Jr. Pricey for the area with $ 70 — $ 90 greens fees. Twilight is your best bet. Lots of tournaments so you need to call ahead.

Its nice to have a great course blocks from my home. Great greens, fun and challenging layout with lots of water and not too busy. A little pricey but good twilight rates like most couses.

Sky Creek Ranch is a really fun golf course. I first played there several years ago and posted a solid 75 (above average for me) and was really impressed with the course’s diverse layout and superb conditioning. I played there again last year and was not as impressed (it seems my first impressions are usually much better then my subsequent impressions at most golf courses — except the Tribute). Anyway, they have an average practice facility and a pretty nice club house, I recommend playing this course at least once.
