In my (admittedly limited) experience, I observe that good mechanics default to one of two primary methods of assessing the work needing to be done:
1. They want you to be able to get out the door for as little out of your wallet while still making sure you’re safe. Invoice starts out lower, but they are able to recommend additional things which could be fixed if you can afford them, in order of importance.
2. They want your car to run as good as it can. The work needed starts out daunting because everything is included, but as you explain your budget he makes recommendations about what can be safely excluded.
I see Stan as falling into the latter of the two camps: Cars come in, and he feels personally responsible for them. He sees them for what they can be, and he wants you to be safe.
His diagnostic is thorough and the initial list of proposed fixes can certainly be overwhelming, at first. But view it in the context of «this is the kitchen sink», and don’t be afraid to provide your budgetary restrictions.
We have two cars, and since I’ve known of Rock Automotive, all repairs to both have been done there.

I drove my car into Rock Automotive to have the spark plugs replaced; they were sticking because of corrosion.
The next thing I know, Stan is telling me I need to buy a new (used) motor from him. He told me that the car was no longer running after he serviced it, because the spark plugs were cross-​threaded. He quoted me $ 2500 for a new (used) motor. When I told him I was not going to do that, because the car was only worth $ 1700.00, then he told me all I needed was a cylinder head, also saying the cylinder head was not repairable, and quoted me $ 1800 to do that. I told him I would not do that, because I was planning on selling the car to a relative for $ 1000. Stan then called me back, and quoted $ 1000, instead of $ 1800. At this point I decided to have the car towed, at my expense, because Stan said the car was no longer running. I took it to another mechanic. As it turned out, it was running. He removed the spark plugs,(which were not cross-​threaded, Rock Automotive had not even removed them) put new plugs in, and the car ran fine. When I informed Stan of this, Stan admitted when I asked him, that they did not remove the spark plugs, saying «we did not remove them because the car would no longer run if we did that», even though he had already told me the car was no longer running because he said they had removed the spark plugs. I told Stan he would need to credit the diagnostic charge, and he refused, demanding that he re-​inspect the car. He demanded that I bring the car in for his re-​inspection. I said ok, and tried to set up an appointment to do this. At this point he refused to allow me to bring the car in for his inspection and refused to credit the invoice. I then let him know I was going to stop payment on my credit card, which I did.
It appears that Stan would not even respond to my credit card companies’ inquiries, and the bill has now been credited.
All of this was done on a car that has never had a problem before, never burned a bit of oil, at 125,000 miles.
We have now put over 12,000 miles on the vehicle that Stan said no longer ran, and needed a new motor.

Thinking my husband’s truck needed a tune up we pulled into Rock Automotive unfortunately the truck needed a new motor since the block was cracked, we made the mistake of taking it to Meineke first, Big Mistake !
Stan made the whole experience very easy. Found us a new (used) motor for the truck, sent us updated photos as the motor was being put in and spoke with us daily on progress.
The cost was exactly what was quoted and even after driving the truck away, when we showed up with small (big to us) problems, he would get right to it and surprise he didn’t even charge us.
They do quality work and not matter how big or small a problem you have they will always treat you like your part of the family and now we feel like we are part of the family. We will be bringing that truck to Rock Automotive for years to come.

Awesome place! Affordable prices. You will feel like family here. I recommend it! I get my oil change for $ 25.95 with synthetic oil for my sport car, they filled up all my fluids and check my tire pressure. I used to pay close that a $ 100 in other places for the same service!

took my old car there for emissions. i didnt want to spend much since i hardly drive this car. they totally understood and did great work for a small price. they also took the time to take care of the emissions test for me so i dont have to go back and get my car re checked

This is a great place to take your car to get fixed. They have worked on several of our cars, they are friendly and caring and we will continue to bring our cars here. They have even had some of our cars towed to their shop! Fast service too!
