A little town that is growing fast in a good way. Not over the top and not boring. They have became a town that I like to go to and don’t mind spending time in. It has lots to offer if you look around. I keep coming back every week. Other small towns can learn from this one.

When I tell people I lived in Kerman, inevitably, I get the same response: «Where the heck is Kerman?» My usual response is «it’s by the new Walmart.» The next question is usually, «Why do you live there?!» Kerman is a small town of about 14,500 people 15 miles due West of Fresno(a side note: Its population almost doubled since 2000!). Small town desolation notwithstanding, Kerman has been a pretty decent place to nest a few days per week and is a nice waypoint between work and home. A free association, when thinking about Kerman, produces the following thoughts/words: Orchards, Walmart, 145, «There’s a lot of new houses here!», «Wait, why don’t we have a Starbucks but we have a Panda Express, Taco Bell, and two McDonald’s!?», trucks, wind, families, «Who lives in that mansion on the 180(hint: NBA), and Tom Hanks. The pluses, in my mind, of Kerman include small town atmosphere(i.e. relative quiet, friendly people, low congestion) and they have great places to live that are newish. Also, Kerman seems to be strategically located between Fressy and the 5 freeway; think about it, when the new high speed railway ever gets built or the ‘Big One’ hits the coast of California, Kerman will be hot real estate. On that last point of Tom Hanks: In case you haven’t heard, he has a relative that was associated with Kerman so the high school somehow got him involved with their homecoming. Negatives for Kerman include its arid desolation, its lack of restaurants and coffee shops, and isolation from Fresno – traveling 20 minutes to get to shopping areas can be a pain.
