My partner and I were in town for Whiskey Flats Days and stopped in for dinner and a glass of wine. We ordered The Sammy and a glass each of a sweet moscato.
While we waited, the bartender donned a curly black wig and a leather jacket and belted out a spirited rendition of Cher’s ‘If I Could Turn Back Time.’ It was then we realized we had come in on karaōke night.
Our sandwiches were served as a patron took the mic to sing Billy Vera’s ‘At This Moment’ (one of my faves, actually). They were amazing. The frites were served with a proprietary sauce that u wish I could have purchased by the jar. And don’t get me started on the tomato chutney. SWOON.
Anyway, great, fun atmosphere, and stellar food at a surprisingly low prices. The staff is great, and you may be treated to a show.
Don’t miss it.

A couple friends and I had lunch after a weekend at Sequoia National Park! I had the day special turkey sliders which were amazing! Service was A+! My friends also enjoyed their meal! They have a huge selection of wine! Unfortunately I couldn’t try any since we were on a long ride home but next time we will definitely come back for some wine!

I really enjoyed the one time I stopped here for dinner & drinks with some friends. The tapas were quite tasty and mind-​blowingly unique for a region that suffers from some seriously boring restaurants (though you’re in luck if all you want is a burger). Unfortunately there was the usual tapas problem of being a tiny portion for a big chunk of change.

I stopped in here on a Friday night after hiking a snowy Sherman Pass. I’d been wanting to try this place badly based on Unilocal reviews, as it seems like a really cool sister establishment to Kern River Brewery just next store. Yup, I just classified a wine bar as female and a brewery as male. Suspend my feminist membership for the duration of this review if you must.
My husband and I had our 4 month old daughter in tow, so before wrangling her stroller through the doorway I went in to ask the owners if they accepted babies in their bar. I didn’t want to presume anyone would be down with a drooling infant and her exhausted parents next to their classy flights of wine and bacon-​wrapped dates. Luckily the owners greeted me as I entered with big smiles and an enthusiastic «of course!» explaining that they were a bar AND restaurant — families welcome!
We sat on couches at a coffee table by the gas fireplace and proceeded to order a red and white flight as well as three tapas (mac n cheese, calamari, and stuffed mushrooms). I only took a couple pictures, as I had my hands full warming bottles and holding/​burping a wriggly overtired baby. Luckily she was happy the whole time, and thoroughly enjoyed watching the Return of the Jedi with her dad, which was screened in the front of the bar. The food was good, nothing remarkable or exceptional though. Points for fresh and house made as opposed to frozen stuff. The wine choices in the flight were varied enough to be interesting, all from CA and quite good. The chocolate cake with cherries was very yummy.
The charm and local-​hang feel of this place makes it really special and fun — I’m really glad this place exists! The owners are so nice, and they have a great establishment here. I need to come back and try more of the food, maybe sit down for a real dinner instead of wine and tapas. Great customer service, good food, great wine, and super atmosphere. Friendly and fun, definitely stop in!

What a fun place, its a great place to chose a great wine, and have a bite to eat and listen to some music. Everyone is so friendly and personable. We really are happy that this place is in Kernvile

We are visiting from out of town and just went to Starlight Lounge for the first time. It’s owned by two sisters, who are really cool ladies. They have a great selection of wine and great food. Very relaxing atmosphere with Rat Pack memorabilia. I highly recommend this place. Great addition to Kernville!!!

My husband took me to the starlite lounge for my birthday dinner. And we were both very impressed! Our waitress Elise was very attentive and helped me find a wine that I really enjoyed as well as helping to me choose the meal that would be best complimented by that wine (I was torn between the blacken scallops and the lemon basil calamari).
Everything was delicious and we weren’t offended by the bill, it was more than reasonable for the quality. Needless to say we will be going back for the food, the wine, the sweet and helpful staff, and the comfortable atmosphere.

I am so happy to have this new place in our small valley. Very comfortable atmosphere. Great prices, and the wine and food are perfect. You can come sit for a minute or hang for a couple of hours. I am working my way through the menu and haven’t found anything I dislike. So far my favorite was the avocado/​cucumber cold soup. I like to get the Shirley McLain (half sandwich and soup)

The best lunch we have had in Kernville in a very long time. The food was amazing, the wine list looked great, the place was super clean, cutely appointed, and service was attentive and friendly! We had an awesome mix of things including calamari which was panko crusted and fried to perfection, the steamed mussels with chorizo, the toasty boy sandy, and bacon wrapped dates. The dates were the most amazing things I have ever tasted. Caramelized bacon wrapped dates stuffed with bleu cheese, adds a sweet burst of flavor to the otherwise savory meal! I can’t wait to go back with the girls and try more of the amazing California wines! Good job Dawn and team, Kernville really needed something like this!

A must do if you’re visiting Kernville. Delicious food to pair with some fantastic wine choices. A real find among the beautiful surroundings of the Kern River Valley. The staff is attentive and extremely knowledgeable. Looking forward to my next visit.

My wife Helene and I just stopped by this new and exciting addition to Kernville.
We were pleasantly surprised with the overall design and mood of the Restaruant/​Tapas Bar/​Wine store. The Starlite Lounge was started by two charming sisters, Dawn & Eleyse with the help of Dawn’s husband Dave. You can feel the love that went into it. I understand that the sisters have been having monthly wine tasting sessions in Kernville for the past 2 years and the choice of wine reflects their expertise.
The food is excellent and I was told that the chefs are graduates of local Culinary schools. I believe it !!! We had an excellent Tomato Basil soup with a fresh and creative salad. The Stuffed Mushroom was amazing. We tasted a few other Tapas treats and loved them all. Dawn suggested the perfect bottle of wine that complimented our food and we were extremely satisfied. There is a dedicated room with hundreds of their wine selections at very reasonable prices.
It was a very rewarding evening and we look forward to returning for more good food and wine.

I’m so happy to have found this place! The food is wonderful, and the owners really take their wine seriously! Not exactly a bar, restaurant, or stuffy wine tasting place, the Starlite Lounge offers a relaxed but classy place to meet friends, enjoy great wine (beer too!), wonderfully different food offerings, and fantastic views. I love our local brewery, but the Starlite provides an alternative that I believe greatly enhances the charming community of Kernville. I wish the owners great success, because I want this place to be around for a very long time!!!
5÷24÷2015. I have been back to the Starlite several times since my first review, and it has only gotten better. The Sunday night music jam last night was wonderful, the Salmon Sliders delicious, and the ambiance perfect. I really love this place!
