Key Lime Sailing Club and Cottages

This place was great. Its not a luxury resort, its classic Florida Keys style. Paul, Captain G and the rest were wonderful hosts and more than accommodating to our needs. Unlike any other resort, the guests often gathered by the water at night to eat cheese and crackers and share some wine while talking about that day’s adventures. Iguanas, manatees and multitudes of seabirds are in the area for viewing. The amazing part is the equipment available. Canoes, kayaks, paddle boards, a dinghy and a sunfish sailboat. Then of course is the fleet of capable Catalina 22 sailboats. Every cottage gets one. The area to sail is vast and the waters are clear. Only 99 miles from Key West makes for a good days trip to see the sights. Don’t miss the opportunity to stay at this resort. We will be back.

What a great place. Quiet, cozy, and fantastic people. This is a great place to relax. It’s close to everything, yet a world away from the hustle and bustle of the city life. Don’t miss the sunset sail/​cruise in the catamaran. Good times.

What a wonderful place. Friendly and laidback, it’s very relaxing. My sister and I stayed in the Captain’s Cottage. Managers Gloria and Ray as well as Cody really made it great. Highly recommended.

We have just left after our second visit to Key Lime and it was even better this time. This trip we decided to take sailing lessons and learned a tremendous amount from Captain Sheldon making this our best vacation ever. Between the sailing, big variety of kayaks, fishing equipment and other water toys, we couldn’t ask for more. Yes, the accommodations are basic but perfect for a home base for sailing. Not a bad drive to Key West day trip. The staff was extremely helpful and Paul even had Cody deliver extra tackle to our boat while we were sailing! Gloria, Ken and Cody helped make our stay a great one… never intrusive but always available. Can’t say enough about Captain Sheldon. Highly recommend taking lessons from him. Definitely made this an even better trip than the first time. We are already planning a three-​peat!

Fantastic deal– just be clear on what you are in for. Basic but Seaworthy sailboats included with your stay, ample advice from a friendly and highly capable captain. Its great fun doing the mangrove tour and do not miss the rope swing down the middle kayak trail! The area allotted for sailing is large enough for all but the most aggressive sailers or long term guests.
This is NOT a fancy resort– expect comfortable 50s style cottages that back up to a lot full of junk and RVs. But the people were friendly, grounds were clean and pleasant, and all the water toys you could want are included in your stay.
Note Key West is a hike for those wanting to do a day trip, but not impossible. Tasters café about 15 min away was our favorite dinner spot– don’t miss the scallops!

Just the best for sailing in great conditions with great sites. The cottages are ok (the ones near the water being, of course, better), but everybody is very Key Largo, friendly and laid back (but on the docks they are very with it and professional). The boats are Catalina 22s and in good shape. Must sail to Duck Cay and Nest Cay (beach is small but tons of fun). There is a natural mud bath on Nest Cay. The breezes are good and there is very little wave action, so the sailing is just fantastic.
Paul (aka the owner) sometimes has sundowner sails on his beautiful R Choy cat and they are not to be missed.
