The Mindful Mermaid

Oh my word. The interior of this place is just to die for. It is perfectly hippy, perfectly chic, and perfectly friendly. We waltzed in on a recommendation (on our way to Key West) and were wowed by the incredible customer service, delicious green juice, and pork Bahn mi sandwich. MUST. GO.

A Gem! This place is a winner, my husband is not vegan and he had the veggie burger and Is hooked! Definitely coming back when visiting the keys in the future. He can stop talking about that burger!

Absolutely awesome breakfast! My boyfriend and I ate here on whim and were very positively surprised. Everything that we had was delicious! He had the funky chicken and I had the magic mushroom breakfast. Everything was perfectly seasoned, fresh, and hot. We talked about how great it was for the rest of the day!

Visited The Mindful Mermaid on a recent trip to the Keys. It was a Saturday afternoon when we arrived and the place was not too busy. The employees were kind and greeted us immediately. Before we could take a look at the printed menus, the employees started to tell us what they did not have in stock. I thought it would only be one or two things, but they kept listing things that they didn’t have! I was concerned that they would have less than half the options on the menu. Luckily for us, the dishes we selected were in stock and we were also able to get a juice. I loved the décor in here because they really played into the mermain/​hippie theme all the way down to the place mats on the tables. The music was also very commendable during our dining experience (RJD2 and the likes were playing). The food was decent. I went with a spicy chicken 6″ sandwich. It was definitely pricey, but the quality was pretty good for the Keys. The restaurant itself is located in the parking lot of a Publix. The staff was great and I would love to visit again on my next trip to the Keys!

Great find! After nearly a weeks vacation in the keys, where it is so difficult to find healthy food, it was such a treat to find this place! Lots of tasty, healthy options; including legitimate vegan and gluten free dishes. The staff was very friendly too! We picked up smoothies to-​go for a light lunch as we road tripped up the coast.

My veggie wrap was delicious! We were warned that it may take abut for the food to come out, but I thought the wait was reasonable. Lots of vegetarian options.

Cute décor. The music was nostalgic for my husband and me (60+ AARP members). Our servers were bubbly but a bit spacey. Food was mediocre and we waited 40 minutes for 2 omelettes on a Saturday around 10am with one order preceding us. Sweet potato fries were good. Would like to give it a better review.

This is a really nice place to stop for lunch on your way to/​from key west. Everything is fresh, healthy and delicious. It’s just a nice, chill place.

I read the blog listed below while in the Keys. So helpful! Highly recommend for those attempting to stay fully GF while traveling the Keys from Homestead to Key West and back again.

On our way home to Minneapolis in March, we decided to lunch at the Mindful Mermaid (Key Largo) based on the review from the blog listed above. Just a small café in a nondescript strip mall a few blocks off Hwy 1. Well worth the minor detour.
Amazingly friendly service. Low key (no pun intended) vibe. AND the food was brilliant. I, the GF diner, had the best burger on a perfectly toasted GF bun since I stopped eating wheat (due to being allergic) in 2013! That is saying a lot since I’ve dined at so many restaurants where the GF offerings are sparse and sub-​standard. My non-​GF husband had the Bahn Mi sandwich and was equally impressed.
Triply recommend this wonderful café — be it GF, vegetarian, meat driven or a combination of all diets!

This was a very nice surprise to find on our trip to Key Largo. We were looking for a light lunch after a boat tour we went on and came across reviews for this place. Saw they had wraps, salads, sandwiches and smoothies… all of the things we were looking for. Husband had pork bahn mi sandwich and thought it was one of the best sandwiches he had ever had. Organic egg salad wrap and protein punch smoothie were awesome as well. Such a great place!

Great food. The best are the garlicky kale wrap and Bahn mi sandwiches. Hummus is delicious as well. A great place for healthier eating and vegan options.

Awesome food and smoothies! The owner and the staff are so nice too! She seems like an awesome lady! The atmosphere and décor is also my favorite! The veggie soup and black bean tacos are my favorite! And the super green lemonade is a must! Everything is organic so it’s awesome and delicious! They also have vegan items!

Yum. Yum. Yum. Service was delightful and very friendly. Something for everyone. I had the tummy tamer. Friend had energy something. Both delicious.

–An overdue review from this past Summer– After a perfect snorkeling trip I searched Unilocal for a vegetarian friendly meal. What did I find? HEAVENLY FOOD, all caps necessary, so kudos to you Unilocal!The chicken banh mi was scrumptious and generously filling You’re welcome taste-​buds. The bun would have been better toasted but the sandwich was full of flavor! My date had a wonderful kale salad with hummus and tabbouleh on top! We shared an order of the chickpea salad. I don’t even love chickpeas but I couldn’t stop myself from eating every ounce of this, even after I was full.
This place is a safe haven for both meat eaters and vegetarians. Its vibrance and elaborate décor is inviting alone but most importantly, the meal enjoyed was the perfect lunch for our perfect day in Key Largo. While the Keys may not border the state of Delaware, I pledge to find the Mermaid during my next of many trips!

The food was majorly delicious-​fresh, tasty, and well seasoned, with tons of veggie, vegan, and gluten free options (although their meat is great!) The staff is super sweet, and very friendly. Don’t go if you’re in a hurry, though. We left calling it the «Forgetful Mermaid» because they kept forgetting stuff for us and the other customers in the store. So charming, though-​and what a delight to find a place so committed to the quality and sustainability of their food! Yum + good.

Got a 12 inch tree’s turkey bomb sandwich and the sweet potato fries addition were amazing. Grilled veggies and turkey with their special sauce inside the sandwich complemented each other very nicely. Outside ambient atmosphere by their tables was great in this warm Key Largo weather. Good service and nice people.

Enjoyed my fresh green juice! Great customer service ! Will visit again this delightful eclectic restaurant which offers diverse tasty healthy choices.

Ducked in to snag some Cali Turkey Subs for our fishing tourney and it was a fine time, here’s why:

We called ahead. It is apparent from the décor that this joint is atypical and anything but corporate.
The sammies are made with love and pride and lots of delicious and tasty and creative ingredients. They are also BIG.
The Cali Turkey comes with Turkey, lettuce, BACON, and lots of other delish-​ish. And it isn’t even the top seller. I think the Hippy Chick said the Cuban Sammy was. Hmmmmmm…

Amazing place. Very tasty healthy and kid friendly.
I had the black bean hummus which was excellent. A detox green juice and a wrap.
My daughter had a mushroom and cheese quesadilla and a mermaid smoothie. Both were great.
