Sad Sad! Been coming to Ambrosia for over 10 years and while it’s the best sushi and is always consistently awesome; the service is consistently bad. When in Key West, we come here every night for dinner and have finally figured out the ordering method. Ask for your sushi, plates, chopsticks, drinks to include a refill, extra wasabi, appetizers, and the check as soon as the server gets to your table. It may be the only time you get, but be advised, none of those requests will arrive in any particular order. If you can deal with it, it’s totally worth the sushi.

I was a little skeptical about this place bc i read bad reviews on their service. I haveto say i was pleasantly surprised. Everyone was friendly. Our waitress was very nice and attentive. Now the food, I ordered the hot bagel roll, the eel roll and i forgot the last one. All very tasty. Not the best sushi i have had, but fresh and good. My husband had some sashimi options. He also enjoyed them but has also had better back home in houston. Overall we were not disappointed with our visit.

One star is to compliment the food while the rest of the missing 4 stars are for the worst service ever. New waitress is not an excuse to NOT write down our orders and then expects us to receive the food we didn’t order. In addition, the food took almost an hour to get done. Then after we ate we were getting charge for the food we didn’t order. As we were finishing up paying for the food, they kept bringing out food to us! Get it right Ambrosia, your food is okay but your service need some serious improvement.

Their ice cream is great, especially the black sesame seed one. The sushi is not that great. Origami and Thai Island is way better.

We really liked the modern atmosphere of the restaurant, and our server was very nice and always available. The food, however, was not as good as it could have been. The Dragon Balls(appetizer) were supposed to be spicy tuna tartare but tasted rather like unflavored pork. They Surf & Turf roll was fresh and tasted great, although the meat could have been fresher. The volcano tasted great great, and would have been even better if the alcohol used for the fire hadn’t spilled over the fish and made parts of it unbearable.

Sushi was good, my boyfriend ask for chicken, it is the worst meal ever I have never seen him stay hungry and not have one bite of the chicken it is so dry. We complain to the hostessed and the waiter would not do anything about it and told us this is the way it is! Will not come here ever again. Japanese hospitality for you! One star is too much!

Prepare to be WOWED!!! The sushi at Ambrosia is fresh and flavorful. The portion sizes are pretty generous. We shared an eel avocado cucumber roll and a spicy scallop roll. Both were 8 pieces rather than the usual 6. I love when the filling of a spicy roll is *not* mostly spicy mayonnaise, and this one was perfection. The special Florida roll was 4 pieces, but had huge chunks of flavorful lobster and was worth the splurge. The pieces of sushi were equally flavorful and generous. If you’re a fan of tamago, make sure to get yourself a piece. It’s almost as big as a surfboard and so, so yummy! Service was also wonderful. Shelby, our server, was very welcoming, friendly, and attentive. We haven’t even paid the check and are already planning our next visit!

Food is fresh, presentation beautiful and service kind of slow. We did call in a reservation the same evening though and they were able to fit us in. Servers and hostess were polite and friendly. Presentation very unique and detailed, ambiance nice and beautiful at night. Lots of street parking if you are not a hotel guest. We ordered the jumbo shrimp tempura(a la carte and not very jumbo), avocado salad(fresh and yummy), baby scallop dynamite(delish), sashimi(good but not great), crab salad sushi(above average), beef rolls with scallion(good but too much green onion for me) dinner, and eel roll(good, rice a little soft but eel melts in your mouth). Tempura ice cream was also beautiful presentation and it was served with a home-made cinnamon syrup. We hope to go back on next visit!

Food is ok, but the service is absolutely horrible. We came here for my daughter’s birthday, and I stopped a server to inquire about ordering her a dessert as a surprise and she was SO rude: gruff and dismissive and completely unhelpful. Our server was MIA and rarely came to the table to check on us. Food is way overpriced for the quality. Disappointing. This used to be a fun place to go. The owner/manager was also super unfriendly.

First, there is a great Atmosphere, ambiance to the place. Nice décor, service was a little slow, location is fair. It looked very promising from the outside but the sushi was really just ok. I’ve had sushi from around the world including Tokyo, Shanghai, Boston, NYC, so my expectations are a little high when it comes to sushi. I ordered the Ambrosia dish and it included a mix of sashimi, nigiri and rolls. The tuna was by far the worst. It was frozen tuna. It was still too cold and had so much water content in it that it was not enjoyable to eat. It was like biting into a wet sponge that was tuna flavored. The salmon was ok, was not as fresh as it could be. Huge disappointment because salmon and tuna is my favorite. The other stuff like eel, clam, was ok, nothing to brag about. I read some reviews that agreed with my experience and I must say that they knew a bit more about sushi than than the common critic. If you’re a sushi connoisseur, this is not the place for you.

Eh, the food and service were decent here. I wasn’t overly impressed by the sushi offerings. Everything is pretty much run of the mill. Also, it seemed like every roll had either asparagus, cucumber or cream cheese in it — just fillers. I was hoping to see some fresher and different ingredients being in Florida. Maybe fruits like oranges or kiwis? I’ve seen that at other places, and the mixing of ingredients works pretty well. It was slightly annoying to have to switch between the a la carte sushi menu and read the actual descriptions in the main menu — there was no rhyme or reason to the listing of sushi, so you had to keep flipping back and forth and searching around. I will say that I was impressed by the atomic sauce — it was very spicy and super delicious! I was really happy to experience that because all too often is the opposite true at sushi places. Another must-try is the sesame ice cream dessert. Pretty much the best dessert I’ve ever had at a Japanese restaurant. The sesame flavor was spot on. There is parking out front(street spots). Bottom line: prices are fine, and the sushi is okay. The offerings are pretty standard; no surprises here. Get the sesame ice cream dessert!

This is the sushi spot I have been looking for in key west. The service has been great from the moment we walked in the doors, thank you Agnes. The food and presentation is amazing! The surrounding hotel is beautiful. At all costs avoid origami Japanese restaurant, they are the opposite of what I just described.

Even people who have visited Japan find this cuisine exceptional! Excellent service and very good sushi. Interesting items offered on the menu. Wide selection of sale and wine. Best sake I ever had, at $ 39 a 300ml bottle it should be. :) The restaurant is not opened always so check ahead. One block from Waterfront. Pool view. Will be back!!!

We loved the experience and our waitress was darling. I wish we’d come at dusk to enjoy the food presentation(dry ice and lights) to the fullest. A lovely evening regardless.

I love sushi, and I wouldn’t recommend this place if you love sushi! We were craving sushi and we couldn’t find any place with at least 4 stars, so we decided to try it anyway. Pros: 1. Hamachi Kama — was fresh and tasty 2. Baby Scallop Dynamite — tasty but way too much Mayo!!! Cons: 1. Toro sushi — disgusting! Robbery and not fresh(was far from melting in your mouth) 2. Rolls– don’t remember the name but we had two and both was NOT good: dry and no taste. 3. Spicy Tuna hand roll– bad, again not a sushi grade tuna questionable freshness. At the end, we hardly eat our food for exception of Hamachi Kama and Dynamite. Service was good. If you enjoy good a quality sushi this place is not for you!

Excelent food! It is not easy to find a decent food in keywest as the turists are not that demanding. This a good japanese restaurant but a little expensive. Still i recommend as i had a good tume there with a delicious food.

The food was good, but the LOUSY service was not enough to save this dinner for us. We had gyoza, miso soup, shrimp tempura, spicy shrimp roll and a sushi special. It was fine. Fresh definitely, but nothing special. Worst of all. Its Florida. I dont think its too much to ask to expect my water to be refilled. Nope. And as a final insult they wouldnt split the check. When one person is on corporate card and another is on personal card with a whopping 5 items ordered how hard is it to portion it out for us? Really. Its not like you were busy filling our waters you awful waitress! AVOID. Not worth it!

I’ve been traveling to Key West for over 4 years and just found out from my friend about this amazing sushi restaurant. We came here this past Sunday. We didn’t have reservations but we were seated right away. The place is not that big but pretty modern… I kinda liked it cause it felt intimate. Its adjacent to Santa Maria suites. Started with miso soup of course. Broth was thick enough and served hot. thank god. Then we ordered 2 kinds of Sake samplers. Each order came with 3 sakes with descriptions. The selections were great and informative. Perfect if you have never tried sake. Now, here comes our sushi entrees: 1) Dragon Roll — It was our least favorite but prepared well. I guess we order these everytime we are in a sushi restaurant so it didn’t make us jump out of our seats. 2) Spider Roll — Crazy presentation and delicious! Its somewhat difficult to eat with chopsticks but we got the job done cause we used our hands. Sshh… lol :) 3) Tiger Woods — Again, excellent presentation! This no-rice roll had salmon, cream cheese, asparagus, tempura… deep fried splashed with balsamic soy sauce. Yummy sushi goodness! 4) Playmate Signature Roll — Our favorite! Barbecued eel, cream cheese, fish cake, avocado, macadamia nut encrusted, deep! fried topped with dynamite sauce! If you gotta do fashion rolls, this concoction is one of the best ones I’ve had. We also ended up ordering couple of Martinis. Of course I had to try their Lychee Martinis which was decent. My friend ordered this blue colored martini which was way too sweet. I knew it was going to be just by looking at it. Overall, I liked the atmosphere, the sake selections and superb sushi presentations. The best was the price for the entire order… around $ 120 bucks. Crazy!!! If we were in Miami, the bill would’ve been doubled. Thank you Key West for this gem :) See my pics.
