Service was amazing, food was really good! cute quaint restaurant with farm to table food selections. A lot of southern style options. Learned a lot of history about key west from our waiter who was so nice! Highly recommend this hidden gem!

Firefly is a great place if you’re looking for excellent southern food in Key West! I got the vegetarian meal which was amazing! The Key Lime cake was phenomenal! The service was great and we lived sitting upstairs on the roof.

Let’s focus on the good here: The Shrimp and Grits with Andouille were flat out amazing. Their cocktail called the Heartbreaker was the best I’ve ever had. What an amazing flavor. The not so good: My tri-tip steak was tasty but downright tough to eat and they didn’t have a sharp knife in the place. The treatment of the mushrooms on the dish was amazing though. Their view across the street could be improved by a wrecking ball or perhaps thermite. It’s an expensive place to eat, two people, two courses, two cocktails will set you back $ 100, but it was worth it, and I would, nay WILL try them again some day.

Came here on a hot, humid day, tired of bicycling, hungry, and in much need of energy, hydration, and food made with love. Firefly did not disappoint on either of these. Once we placed our order, we were served crispy, cool iced-water in none other than mason jars. Needless to say, refills were in order soon after! Now onto the actual food, it was excellent. The grilled cheese and tomato bisque melted in our mouths. We ordered shrimp and grits, which were perfectly seasoned to my delight. Next was the Mac and cheese on a skillet, which was still sizzling when it got to our table. We ate it in its entirety. At last, we were served the Fried green tomato sandwich with a side of hand-cut fries. It was surprisingly sweeter than we had expected, but delicious nonetheless. The service and atmosphere at Firefly exceeded my expectations and eating here enhanced the overall Key West experience for us. A big thank you to our pleasant waitress for such a positive encounter.

We went here with a group of friends after running the Keys 100 the night before. Food was excellent and they had some solid music on an Sunday morning(Pandora: Hip Hop BBQ). I recommend the chicken & waffles.

Good, solid southern comfort food and great service. We went around 1:00 for lunch after walking for hours… I was a bit miffed(errr ok, pissed) they wouldn’t allow for upstairs seating on their beautiful porch at this hour — no reason for that especially when you’re paying $ 15 per meal… but back to the food. Amazing chicken and waffles and the BEST mac n cheese I’ve ever had… don’t miss these two items if you choose to eat here. Fried chicken sandwich was solid but be sure to ask for their home made… ummm…“something mango habanero hot sauce”…makes it more yum. Lots of craft beer selections… I had a cool and refreshing honey wheat draft IPA and it hit the spot! One other noteworthy item — very heavy food for hot, humid Key West… you’ll probably be filled up for the rest of the day.

I was completely blown away at this place. The food is traditional southern comfort food, so the chicken is fried hard and has an insane flavor. My wife got the chicken and waffles and I got the spicy chicken sandwich. Not only was the presentation amazing, but the food tasted amazing! This is definitely a must visit when in the keys, you will not be disappointed. Oh, and get the pork rinds. They are done in house and our brought to you still popping and crackling.

I must say this was our second meal in Key West. Where do I start? We ordered the homemade biscuit and jam, which is a must have. We ordered the blood orang mimosa, which we didn’t like very much but everything else was on point. We had chicken and waffles, shrimp and grits, bacon and eggs, and hash browns I must say it all was amazing a definite must do in Key West!

Is it wrong that we fly to key west from NYC for firefly’s fried chicken? The food here is amazing. They are listed as a farm to table restaurant which is a huge plus, but to be honest I never remember to ask the staff and confirm. Love the food, bought the t shirt. Really friendly staff. We always sit upstairs on the balcony. And I always pick up some of the Key West sea salt scrub when I’m there! A+ every time!

Hands down the best breakfast I’ve ever had! Let me be more specific, you MUST get the spicy chicken biscuit add gravy/fried egg. It’s perfection, so much so that we went back the next morning and ordered two — very unnecessary since they serve portions fit for the Flinstone’s. Their biscuits are so buttery and flakey you could just stop there but why not slap on some ghost fire sauce, habanero cheese, moist fried chicken and then top it off with a fried egg and some of the best«stick to your ribs» sausage gravy you could ever imagine!!! I will dream about this breakfast until my next visit to Key West. I don’t want to down play their other items but this one just took the cake. The chicken and waffles was fabulous and the Mac and cheese was so decadent! In fact, if you get the chicken biscuit and the Mac and cheese, you WIN! Stop counting calories and do it!

Really wanted to like this place and I mostly did. But two issued happened. First, I ordered Mac and Cheese for appetizer. They came out and were way undercooked. The noodles felt like they were taken out half way through boiling. We mentioned that to the server and he came back after talking to the chef and said that was intended and they were supposed to be this way. Well nothing on the menu indicated that so it sounded like an excuse. They were good about it though and didn’t charge us for it. Second, they refused to substitute broccoli for mash potatoes in the Grouper dish I wanted to ordered. Strange — that’s never happened to me before. Other that that, gumbo was great and my wife loved the chicken. Chocolate desert was tasty as well. Nutella on the bottom was a great touch. Would definitely give this place a second chance if we were come back here.

This place is pricey, but well worth it. Charming as heck setting and lovely waitsaff. Drinks are great and food was absolutely wonderful. There weren’t a ton of vegetarian options, but more than other nouveau-south places, and clearly enough options that I ate too much. The mac and cheese was out of the world. Best food we had in the Keys, by a long-shot.

PLEASE GET FRIED CHICKEN SANDWICH As you know, fried chicken is one of the hardest things to make, and is constantly in the limelight of public scrutiny. Everyone has their two cents on who makes it best and what you gotta do to make it epic. Well, I don’t know what firefly does, but they’re doing it right. The meat is overwhelmingly moist and juicy and the outside is always crunchy and perfect. I could eat the fried chicken sandwiches morning, noon and night. In fact, I think I have.

Overall [A+]: Fantastic ambiance, inspired, concise menu with all interesting dishes. Perfect service and outstanding food. Wine and beer only, no liquor, was puzzling though. Interior/Ambiance [A]: Homely, historic house converted to restaurant. Two stories with outdoor seating. Great vibe with white tablecloths and candles, dim lighting. Cozy neighborhood feel with more of a local crowd than tourists as this is off-the-beaten-path. Service [A+]: There was a bit of a wait and we had a seat at the bar. Small craft beer selection on tap, but everything I tried tasted fine. No liquor was puzzling — beer and wine only. During our meal, service was spectacular: friendly, prompt, precise. Food [A+] Duck Wings [A+]: Duck wing appetizer could come barbecue or buffalo. We did barbecue. The homemade tangy sauce was unreal. Crunchy exterior and moist interiors. Absolutely delicious. Shrimp and Grits [A+]: Out of this world rendition of this dish. Hearty portion with cajun grilled shrimp. This was our server’s recommendation and he was absolutely correct that they hit this one out of the park. Bison Short Rib [A+]: My dad ordered this one and devoured the whole thing. I tried a few bites and everything was cooked perfectly. Overall, highly recommended!

This place would be a 5 if it wasn’t for how long it took the food to come out and the extremely overcooked steak we received. They tried to make it right by taking«half off the price» but it still didn’t make up for a lackluster experience. Other than that, the drink menu was very good and the rest of the menu was excellent. We tried the fried green tomatoes and the crab fritters appetizers and they were fantastic. I’ll also agree with some of the other review that said the shrimp and grits were out of this world. I couldn’t agree more. Service was good all things considered.

Came here for brunch. Nothing too special. Deviled eggs were loaded up but pretty average. A lot of mustard and no paprika. Not too good. Fried okra was not the chopped up style, left in little sticks formed. Not too good. The texture was a little tough and flavor was definitely not there. The chicken had no flavor all I tasted was mustard. It was dry too. Overall disappointed in the experience. Waitress called us impatient too. Bad service overall.

I hadn’t come here before thinking that the food might be too heavy. But we tried it this morning and it was fantastic. Homemade sausages are a must and my friends love the blood orange mimosas. Also the shrimp and grits and the biscuit was fantastic as was the fried green tomato sandwich. Hopefully we’ll have a chance to come back! Service was fantastic as well. And there are lighter options. But if you are looking for big heavy southern breakfast, this is a great place for that too!

Based on Unilocal reviews, my husband and I made a reservation for firefly. If you’re smart, you will do the same. We ordered the fried green tomatoes as an appetizer to share and they were fabulous. We then ordered a fried chicken dinner to share. We were sharing because we had a rather late lunch. I should have ordered my own dinner. The chicken was probably the juiciest fried chicken I’ve ever eaten. The collard greens with a little bit of a bite at the end were out of this world. Don’t miss this one.

Wow. What a great dining experience from top to bottom. Our waiter Brian, was wonderful. Not my typical key west fare, but wow. Delicious and interesting. The fried chicken was superb, meatloaf was outstanding. For starters the crab beignets were wonderful. Not as much a fan of the fried green tomatoes take but no stars off for that as it was so beautiful. And dessert! We had a piece of their award winning key lime cake and the hot berry crumble served in a little skillet, would get that dessert again and again.

For no particular reason, Firefly is probably one of my favorite restaurants that I have ever been to. I may have said that for a few other places in KW, which might just speak of the charm in all of KW, but Firefly really did it for me. I can’t quite put a finger on it, I couldn’t tell you why I love it so much… it just is. It’s located off a side street in a more residential area of KW. It looks like a beautiful plantation house from the outside, not anything like a resturaunt. It is charming, elegant, but you know the food will taste like home cooking. We ordered the biscuits as an appetizer. To be fair, our server warned us that the portions were«huge». He said we might want a lighter meal because it was so heavy. He wasn’t wrong. The biscuits were bigger than my palms. Now to be honest, for as much as I like bread, biscuits are not my favorite. So, when I say that these biscuits were unbelievable, flavorful, fresh, warm… then you know they must be really good. For dinner, I got the mac n cheese, which I ranked as 1 of my top 5 that I have ever had. Gster got the pork ear, which wasn’t what he thought it was, but still was good. He was a little thrown off by the waiter telling us to order less, since we would be so full. We did appreciate it though. Firefly was really nothing like anything I have ever been to. While it wasn’t overwhelmingly«awesome», it just left me with a very good memorable experience.

I was in town for a bachelorette and our group of 10 decided to look for a place to have brunch. We had just walked by this restaurant and it didn’t look busy. Therefore, we decided we would walk back to try it out. As we were walking back I decided to call them to check how long the wait for 10 would be. The woman who picked up the phone said to me that they would not accommodate a large group. Her excuse was that it’s a busy weekend and there are a lot of people in town and taking a large group today would not be possible. At this point we are now standing in front of the half empty restaurant while she is going on and on about how a large group is not feasible. I said to her that we were across the street about to walk in and she said that she would not accommodate us. What terrible customer service. We walked 200ft to LaCreperie. There they were nice enough to accommodate our group of ten in 20 minutes.

Wandered over to this place after receiving incredibly poor service and a very long wait at Blue Heaven. We’re so glad we did! Wife ordered a specialty drink(pomegranate something) and said it was one of the best she had during our trip. Beer selection was also on par with other places in the area. Food was absolutely divine! We ordered the pimento cheese app, along with the southern fried chicken sandwich and a BLT for lunch. All were amazing, and that BLT was quite possibly the best I’ve ever had. It melts in your mouth! Service was snappy and the owners/staff all appear to be having a good time doing what they do. This place is a little off the beaten path, but it’s definitely worth it! Thanks for a great meal!

Recommendation: Mac & Cheese We had a reservation and were seated promptly. Aside from the amazing Mac, I had their sangria and a BLT. The sangria was refreshing and full of flavor. The BLT was great, with the sauce being the star. The fries that came with the sandwich were delicious too. The staff was very helpful and patient, considering I changed my reservation 4 times. We will definitely be visiting this spot again.

I loved everything about our brunch here. From the music(Hip Hop BBQ), to the atmosphere(our table for 8 was on the balcony), to the service and the fantastic southern comfort food. We started out with the fried okra and it was definitely some of the best I’ve every had. YUM! Others at our table also loved the deviled eggs. For my brunch, I had fried chicken, biscuit and added a side of sausage gravy. I loved the fried chicken… perfectly breaded, crispy and juicy all at the same time. Others had the ghost pepper fried chicken biscuit, the BLT sandwich, shrimp and grits, hashbrown casserole and more. If you like southern/comfort food, you will love Firefly. If you have a bigger group, call ahead for a table:)

Firefly is a great place with southern food. The food is all homemade and fresh, and hot and delicious. I highly recommend getting the cobbler for desert, you’ll never have one like it anywhere else. This place is a bit off the beaten path but it is fantastic food and huge portions. We got the fried green tomatoes for an appetizer and had the half chicken and the bacon wrapped meatloaf. Everything was fabulous and worth getting again. The meatloaf was especially good and the turnips on the side were magnificent! The atmosphere was mellow and laid back and our waiter Bradey was outstanding and recommended a couple of great beer choices.

They deserve Five Stars because the food was literally amazing! In the Keys for the weekend and stumbled across this little place for brunch one day because another restaurant was a two hour wait. Very happy our party of eight agree to give this a shot. It’s small but what restaurant in Key West isn’t? The staff was really friendly and accommodating. We had one waitress for our big party and she did really well, which is impressive to me. Nearly our entire party ordered a biscuit to start. At first I was a little thrown off because of the $ 5 price for one biscuit but now I see why … It’s huge and oh my god cooked to perfection! I’m from the south — born in North Carolina and I love southern food. It’s hard to find a place that can actually pull it off though here in Florida. I must say I am impressed with this place. Their food represented southern cuisine perfectly. The chicken and waffles was so good. Huge boneless chicken breast, fried perfectly. Crunchy on the outside and perfectly cooked on the inside. Laid across a few waffles, drizzled in syrup, walnuts/pecan pieces, and sprinkled with powdered sugar. The shrimp and grits was out of this world! I love grits. If your southern, your grew up eating grits. It’s a comfort food. Very hard to find anyone to make them like they do back home but this place outdid themselves. They were awesome — had a little cheese in them. The shrimps were huge and seasoned perfectly. There was also pieces of their homemade sausage … Omg mouth watering. All of the flavors were amazing. A little spicy but I love that. So glad we came here and gave it a try. Can’t wait to go back and try more. The only warning I will give is … It took a little time for our food to come out. Again we were a party of eight AND they make everything from scratch. Also, you WILL need a nap after eating here so prepare for that!
