Excellent and authentic Cuban options, especially for seafood.

I don’t get it. I never give poor reviews but this was just bad. Seriously regret this meal. My husband and I saw good reviews here and wanted the authentic Cuban food. We ordered the yucca fries, Cuban burger and pork tacos. There was barely any pork, all of it was so greasy and unidentifiable. And the yucca fries shouldn’t have even been served. They were so over fried you couldn’t even chew them. Don’t waste your time!

The atmosphere is a little nerve racking. It reminded us of Mexico but the good was very very good. We got the Mahi sandwich and the Cuban sandwich. The Mahi was more unique and very tasty. The Cuban was good, but the key lime pie was better. The café con Leche was B grade.

Food is amazing! We had the Cuban Burger and Pork Tacos. First time my fiancée didn’t offer me a taste of her food! :), I had to ask and she then devoured it so I couldn’t ask again. The Cuban Burger is fantastic as well. Also, the best-made plantains(platanos) ever. The owner is very friendly too. Definitely recommend.

Fun little place, get the original Frita burger! Iced coffee good too. Arepas with guava marmalade very tasty as well. Chickens everywhere, they’re hungry!

Hold in the wall place with cheap, good, cuban inspired eats. The service is super friendly and the place has a great vibe. They’re also veggie friendly(despite Cubano focus). The street corn is fantastic, and the cheese toast is some of the most Cuban food you can get off-island. Empenadas are standard and won’t disappoint. It’s a three because though the place itself is cute as hell and I’d definitely go back, the food didn’t blow me away. Not a *ton* of flavor, but super cute place, great laid-back/chill atmosphere with great staff.

We stopped in for lunch and got a bahn mi sandwich and chicken empanadas. Neither had very complex or interesting flavors. The bahn mi was very spicy! They were incredibly nice and welcoming but the food just didn’t wow me. Just a tip, take your food to-go. Their seating is incredibly awkward and uncomfortable.

Twice in three days I’ve ordered the pink tacos and twice they have been so good I’ve eaten them all without a thought to taking a picture! Delicious! I also had the roasted corn and it was wonderful. Sweet little hole in the wall with fantastic food. Don’t miss this joint.

This is a must if you want yummy Cuban food without paying overrated prices. The service was outstanding and the location was ideal. We got the tacos, burger and shared the toastones. All exceptional and I would order them again. The bread for the burger was fresh and homemade-so good!

We were on a cruise that stopped in Key West and our first stop was Fritas. Overall this was a excellent restaurant. The servers were very friendly and their was great service. My frita burger was alright and I did not love it. However, the iced coffee, the churros, and the conch fritters were AMAZING. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this restaurant but was only a bit disappointed by the frita burger.

Honestly the BEST Cubano I’ve had during my stay in The Keys! I’ve been eating and drinking my way through the island and I will say that hands down they had the best Cuban sandwich; the pork was moist and well seasoned, the bread having the perfect crunch. The setting has an adorable rustic charm that made me feel like I’d stepped back into Cuba. We also got 2 empanadas to go… The duck and guava was amazing. Actually about to make another trip over there for another Cubano… See you there!

Great hole-in-the-wall local gem that I really wanted to review highly. Interior is homely and disheveled with a clear obsession with Frida Kahlo… perhaps Frita’s is a pun on that. There is a single table with bench seating in the main room or you can sit outside with the food truck that actually makes the food next door. There is a picnic table out there and a booth. Our group really enjoyed their Frita burgers and we came back for seconds the next day. I ordered a Cuban Banh Mi the first time and a regular Cuban sandwich the second day. Unfortunately, both sandwiches were just not good. Dry, flavorless pulled pork with a skimpy portion. Bread wasn’t really Cuban bread and it was old and stale tasting both times. Overall, they were unappetizing. Yucca fries with the chimichurri sauce were outstanding, however. Overall, I would recommend this venue but would not recommend the Cuban sandwiches. Stick to Frita burgers.

This place is around the corner from Duval St center… its a little hole in the wall with an outdoor patio space to the side with the trailer the food is cooked in. I’m going to go out on a limb here and say these are the BESTTACOS I HAVEEVERHADINMYLIFE. Specifically the Cuban Pork Tacos. They come 2 to an order, and have this pickled something with guava glaze on the pork. We had dinner reservations at a nicer restaurant and cancelled them to eat here on the street. We had the tacos with the Yuca Fries and chimichurri sauce — so salty, crunchy, and overall a party on your palate! We were in Key West for 3 days and went 3x… what’s that tell you? The owner was so friendly and welcoming, turns out we were connected through something back home in New England and we had a nice conversation. I am telling you — you HAVE to go here. It’s everything.

So it essentially a glorified food truck. Indeed, the kitchen is the food truck and we sat next to it under an umbrella. The décor thus is non-existent. But for cuban street food, I really loved this hidden gem thanks to Unilocal.Very friendly service ready to accommodate us. Made us really feel welcome. And the rooster next door also made us feel like we were in the country. We loved everything we had here: The frita was good. The taco was even better and the duck empanadas were so good we fought over them. We could’ve done without the yucca fries but the plantains were so good we just didn’t have room for the fries. Overall, for what this is and the price, it’s a real winner. A great choice in Key West for something that isn’t a chain.

We really wanted to love this place. Based on the other reviews we really thought we would. Maybe it was an off day. The Hubs and I were the only customers and we felt like we were intruding. The staff felt very awkward. Really strange. Very uncomfortable seating. Strange set up with a tiny building hooked to a food trailer, which is where meals are actually cooked. We ordered two Traditional Cubanito Sandwiches, since that is supposed to be there specialty. I’m not sure what we were initially served, but it was not a sandwich. They redid the order, but I would only say the Cuban was so-so. Nothing special about it. Unimpressive all around. Not even worth a second try, unfortunately.

First visit here was worth all the local hype… Experience: — The entire staff was incredibly helpful. There was a sweet charm about each of them that illuminated this small establishment. — The décor did not disappoint with it’s rustic island Caribbean vibe — don’t expect fine dining accommodations, but a quirky funk setting. — Culinary: my husband had the Cuban burger without the egg. The potatoes are thin straw like. He enjoyed it, but next time would try with the egg. I also took a bite which in my opinion had more of a sausage flavor then I was prepared for. It was a unique dish, so expect the unexpected. — I had the Cuban pork tacos. They were absolutely 100% hands down delicious. I will have a hard time ever ordering anything else after having these. — Pricing: reasonable. — Result: We will DEFINITELY be back. Sidebar: This is a small food truck/cart with an indoor order area — seating inside and out. TRYTHETACOS!

I found this place through you guessed it, Unilocal. We had just wanted something small and simple to eat that night and we found it. There are some things that are good and there are some things that are not so good. I’ll start with the good: –The food is pretty darn good and that is what we’re there for right? I had ordered the Cuban burger which I’ve never heard of but it was something completely unexpected. It was a patty made with both beef and pork with some sort of tomato jam. I added cheese but it also came with super thin shreds of fried potato strings. The burger was moist and juicy but the sauce complimented it. It was more like eating a meatloaf than a burger. My wife had a Cuban sandwich and that too was pretty good. I am more used to Cuban sandwiches having a thinner and more toasted bread but this one was still good. The meat was absolutely great and the pickles were thick cut. The fries were fried fresh but seemed a bit soggy. Perhaps the oil was not so hot because they were greasy as well. The bad: –There were 4 of us. There was no room for us to eat inside in a table type of setting because there are 2 stools at a bar and maybe 2 seats on the side. There was a side patio if you want to call it that. We re-arranged some of the benches to face what you can sort of call a tiny side table in which the four of us were going to eat from. There was one more bench opposite our side where 4 German tourists(all men) squeezed into and seemed to be cozy with tables that were not really tables being maybe 18 to 24 inches off the ground about 2 feet by 2 feet. This place doesn’t really have any suitable furniture to comfortably eat their good from and enjoy it without being pretty cramped. This side patio or whatever you want to call it is where some of the food is cooked. There’s what can only be called a trailer where a cook is doing something in there, making corn I think but the area is kind of stifling. If it wasn’t already humid in Key West this side patio is covered with some sort of bramble bush above you so there is no real air circulation at the time we were there. The corn trailer or whatever where some of the food may have been prepared adds to the heat and stuffiness of the enclosed already tight enough space. This place would be must better if there was proper furniture and space to eat in.
