Went there in January 2010 and yes, they are definitely gone. So sad, I was looking forward to haveing a good bowl of saimin there. Thanks for all the good eats in the past. Hope you are well and maybe opened somewhere else? (The location is now occupied by: «Coconuts Fish Café».)

It is closed? Oh, no… I have been waiting all year to get back. I loved their fried Saimin and Teri Beef. I have to find a new place to eat in Maui…

Hanafuda satisfied my appetite! Small joint packs a punch with their ono kau kau, cuz! I had the two eggs over rice with spam. I know, simplicity at its best. You can’t go wrong with Hanafuda, brah. Before you go, color and mark up your dollar bills to leave your mark! We did and had fun doing that before hitting up Kamaole beach!

*3.5 stars*(because I liked it so much…) I guess I’m just not a saimin connoisseur… I really liked this place but DH wasn’t impressed at all. My soup and his chow mein style saimin was good too but he just didn’t care for it… hmm… he did finish off is plate, though… So, decent enough saimin for a decent price… I’d go back if I were in town!!!

really good value. kind of unbelievable, actually. I had a medium bowl of saimin, which was like $ 5(seriously!) and it came with sliced fish cake and roasted pork. The noodles were cooked perfectly… not too soft and mushy, not too firm as if it were re-constituted. And the broth was surprisingly tasty for such a simple dish.

Great place to head to after a tiring and long day at the beach. This place caught my attention while driving down S. Kihei Blvd. that I was thinking about this place for a whole 24 hours before I finally went there. Boy was I satisfied! We ordered an extra large bowl of saimin noodles to share for $ 9.95. I was so happy eating this yummy bowl of noodle soup that I wanted to literally fall asleep there. You know when you are so satisfied and warm in the tummy that you fall asleep? That’s how I felt. Go get some!

Hanafuda has excellent saimin — particularly the sumo saimin — a huge bowl of noodles, broth, vegetables, and meats. Price was reasonable and service was absolutely fine. Great place for a cheap lunch or dinner(by Maui standards anyway).

food was OK. we were kinda craving saimin and this one was not too far from us. the saimin was good. but the beef stick as the side was small and wimpy.. the service was HORRIBLE. it took us a long time waiting for her to take our order, and they didn’t even come back to see how we were doing. all she kept on talking about was when she’d get off work. and pretty much ignored the customers. anyways. good for a quick saimin fix. but if you want good service and better saimin/noodles. go to SAMSATO’s in Wailuku.

Food was decent but the service was bad. For Maui… this place won’t put a dent in your wallet. You can go if you don’t mind the rude service from the old lady with the really high tightly tied ponytail. Although the service isn’t up to par, the food really is decent and decently priced. Only bad service we received in Hawaii.

Oh my, this is my 100th review! Just as there was no joy in Mudville ’cause Mighty Casey struck out, there was no joy in Maui ’cause there isn’t a Zippy’s on the whole island. Zippy’s is the fast food saimin chain on Oahu that started my addiction to homemade saimin. Now this isn’t warmed-over Top Ramen that they serve back in California. This is the slightly al dente noodles served in a hearty broth chock full of ingredients like cha-shu pork and scallions. On my last night before leaving this island paradise, I found Hanafuda, really a non-descript place in a glorified strip mall between a 1950’s-style diner, Peggy Sue’s, and the aptly named Who Cut the Cheese. Imagine my child-like euphoria upon finding a folksy place that serves homemade saimin the way I like it. I had the Medium Bowl with Roast Pork for just $ 6.95, and it was delish enough for me to have a flashback to my days at Zippy’s. It first comes with a little plate of hot mustard and then comes the bowl full of huge pieces of real pork. I was in heaven as the noodles had a slight chewiness to the bite, just the way I like it. The medium is big enough for me, but of course, they serve a large size for a dollar more and a Sumo Saimin for $ 9.95. The rest of the menu is standard Hawaiian — plate lunches that range from the Loco Moco at $ 6.50 to the Mix Plate of Kalbi & Shrimp Tempura at $ 9.50. They even serve the saimin fried if you prefer it that way, and of course, there are burgers and sandwiches available for the less adventurous. The service is fast and friendly, too, and it looks like it attracts a lot of locals, as they came in like they were family members of the staff there. Big thumbs up for the best saimin I tasted on Maui! FOOD — 5 stars… saimin the way I love it! AMBIENCE — 3.5 stars… just a lunch room, but I do like all the individually decorated dollar bills on the wall SERVICE — 4.5 stars… quick, quick TOTAL — 5 stars… proves good saimin is truly an art
