We have been looking for things truly made in Maui. The Maui Peaberry coffee at Lava Java is 100% locally grown and delicious! Not sour, too acidy or over roasted. JUSTPERFECT! We highly recommend Lava Java for a great cup of coffee and souvenirs to give loved ones when you return home!

Staff – very good. That’s probably an understatement. The woman who helped us knows her coffee – in a good way. Coffee – excellent. Atmosphere — it totally works. If you are in the mood and near here, I encourage you to try it.

I wanted to try this place on my first day in Maui having heard of them from their participation in the Kona IM. It is a very small store which sells beans and clay made t-shirts. The barista was nice and recommended which beans I should have for my latte. The drink was good, but a little to hot for a latte, and consisted of a little to much foam as well. All their drinks are served in paper cups and it is definitely a take-out kind of place. All in all it was ok-good, but not great. If you are staying in the area it is worth checking out, but if you are on the very west side of the island it is a long drive for just ‘good’.

The First day the coffee here was perfection. Service was a little slow, but hey, I’m vacationing. Back for day two, totally looking forward to their Maui roasted coffee. Sign says they open at 6… It’s now 7:10 and the lights are off. 5 stars on the coffee and 3 stars for not being open at the listed time.

This was a staple each morning of our trip! The owner is so nice, friendly and knowledgeable. The baristas were also fantastic. Loved the granita. My husband ordered a different kind of coffee every day and loved them all. They always thanked us for shopping local, which I thought was so nice. Excited to try the chai tea and coffee beans we brought back with us!

November 15, 2015 Sunday — 8:15AM for drinks 4 adults Atmosphere — 4 star Drinks — 4 stars Service — 5 stars Background — Getting our coffee on this morning. Atmosphere — A mix of coffee, tobacco, and gift in the tiny shop. Food Drinks — I had the Mocha, solid drink, and would order it again. Service — When we got to the counter to order we were asked if this was our first time here. Yes it was. She poured us little cups of frozen mocha. We all finished them and were walking around taking the place in when the owner came in and offered us more of the frozen mocha. Future — Perhaps still on this vacation.

Got a chance to come in and try out a mocha. The customer service was super friendly and even offered us a sample of their signature drink — the frozen mocha. It was super chocolaty and I could see how it would be excellent on a hot day. The shop had a cool local goods especially t-shirts and specialty coffee beans. Great place to grab a coffee drink and they have some outside seating if you want to lounge a bit and people watching.

I used to love their mocha coffee freeze. As I got older and started enjoying my coffee black, I find this blended drink to be too sweet. The owner is very sweet and always offered samples.

My cappuccino was lukewarm. She wanted to just add more steamed milk which would of course just make it a latte. I told I wanted another one made hot. She never offered to replace it. Ended up paying for another one. She poured the lukewarm one down the drain. Like the coffee but I won’t be back. $ 8 for a cappuccino?

Had a frozen mocha. It was as the café owners insisted as really good. I was skeptical but it was quite tasty. It’s nice and well blended so the ice is in small bits, the coffee is just a little strong and gives you a nice kick and there isn’t too much of an aftertaste. There is a lot of damn sugar in this drink though. Although, it didn’t seem like it was overly sweet. They sell a lot of crap in here too. It’s really cluttered. I wish they’d just sell coffee and their coffee beans. It’s not very comfortable to hang out in; there aren’t any seating only outside. It’s better off if you walk across the park and sit under a tree, watch the ocean and enjoy the cup of mocha.

Great shop. We stayed in walking distance and it was our ‘go to’ place for espresso and frozen coffee. Try the free sample and enjoy the sun and beach just across the street. The owner is a great guy and will schmooze your socks off. Lots of local knowledge and willing to chat. All the staff we met were great.

Smooth, high-quality coffee! We came here everyday for our morning(and afternoon and evening) coffee fix during our week in Maui. A little on the pricier side, but hey you get what you pay for! I stuck with the iced lattes. The frozen mocha was delicious and my sister’s favorite, if you’re feeling like something sweet(it wasn’t sugar overkill though). I think they had a few pastry items, but the focus is definitely on the drinks. Super friendly staff. Only one barista working, so can take a little while to get your drink if there’s a line. They also sell a selection of cool tshirts/bags/books/etc. Get your caffeine and souvenirs in one place! Convenient. My only complaint is that the inside of the shop gets a little hot. No AC. Get more fans please! Your baristas would probably appreciate as well!

Staff: they were very nice, they gave me tips about the island and when to come by and get the freshest coffee. So over all very approachable. Drinks: I had a frozen mocha and is was so good, it was fresh and perfect for a hot day especially when it in Maui and you don’t want a hot beverage. My sister tried the frozen POG and that to was amazing. Personally I will be coming back again fo sho!!!;)

Granita(frozen coffee drink) was lackluster. I d recommend Kihei café instead. The staff was very friendly and I can’t speak to the other hot coffee options.

So, yes, this is the place for authentic Maui coffee. We rode our bikes to the coffee shop, we ordered a white mocha. 2 for $ 9. Yes, it was good, and NO it didn’t taste like Starbucks. It had a unique Maui flavor. The owner and her son were very cool. They have coffee for sale and t shirts, a few tables outside for sipping on coffee and people watching. Park across the street. If we had more time, we would have walked along the beach. This review is short, because«that’s all folks»

Very artisanal-y(read nice tasting but really, really expensive) coffee place. We ordered couple of coffees and took home some beans and the 50USD that were burning a hole in our pocket disappeared very quickly. Not being a coffee connoisseur I can only say that the coffee was good and tasted like coffee. Was it better of worse than Starbucks? No idea. Didn’t taste worse, so if you think you can tell the difference, this one would be a good one to try.

Why support local when the locals aren’t fairly treated. I was a frequent of this small coffee shop especially when my friends daughter was hired as staff. But after hearing about her checks being shorted and all the other hassles this hard working girl had to endure I would never support again. Sadly I’ve heard a few different stories along the same lines… The coffee is o.k. It’s fresh tasting and a non bitter solution to the normal kona coffee. I would often have the frozen chocolate coffee drink from the machine until I found out what the ingredients are. Gross. And how often are the machines cleaned. I don’t know. Hopefully I can hear some good word of mouth or improvements of this place so that my family and I can return again.

We are from Oregon, so coffee is pretty much essential in our house. The owner, Patrick, was in this morning and although the coffee was really expensive, his knowledge about coffee, his willingness to give us a quick lesson about how he grows his coffee — all of these things resulted in 5 stars from us and the most money we have spent at one place since we have been here! They give you a frozen mocha sample on your way in(which was delicious)!! And they have cigars, a full coffee menu, and little trinkets! Definitely go see this little shop! :)
