Maui Sunseeker LGBT Resort

This place is the poop. I didn’t know it was adult only… nor did I know that it was «clothing optional» but hey… neither things bother me. I just loved that there were ZERO CHILDREN screaming everywhere. In fact, there weren’t many people at all. We encountered a lovely male couple up on the rooftop deck and enjoyed the sunset together with some wine… then we encountered one more couple, poolside. Everyone was clothed and the conversations were fantastic.
During out stay there was a vigil across the street on the beach for those who lost their loved ones in the Pulse shooting. Hosted by the Sunseeker.
The rooms are decent. The cleaning attendants are great… and it was just overall an awesome experience.
Will definitely be staying here again… and again… and again. Special thanks to Terrel (not some huge black guy), the lady at reception. She’s a great host, tour guide and help. She helped out Maui stay sooooo much easier.

I was originally skeptical about spending my vacation in an LGBT resort.
After accurately checking out the several reviews on Unilocal I decided to give it a shot.
I am very glad I did.
It is a lovely property. Well kept. Easy to access and conveniently located literally across from the beach.
The room was super clean and well kept. Neatly organized and free of clutter.
The receptionists were very friendly and helpful.
The service of housekeeping was always prompt and efficient.
The location is only 5 min away from Wailea, where you can find a lot of restaurants and shops. It only located on the north side of Kihei, which makes your travel to other cities in Maui very convenient by being close to the main highways.
I would definitely recommend it, considering that the atmosphere was just so quaint and lovely.

Without doubt, the best property on Maui. Don’t be fooled by the name — people of all persuasions are welcome at Sunseeker. The rooms are comfortable, clean, and well-​appointed. The staff is top notch — I have spent many, many nights at Sunseeker, and the staff quickly became our new Ohana.
The property is situated on the beach in Kihei, and it is easily accessible and gives you access to all areas of Maui relatively easily. This is all aside from the fact that you will not find a better value anywhere on Maui. I tell everyone I know about Sunseeker, and I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Wow! What a great surprise! The hotel is lovely as are the hotel staff! Our room was clean and well appointed! Tour desk/​massage studio were great! The view from our room#113 was just spectacular! Every morning/​evening coffee/​champagne with perfect views. We can’t wait to come back and enjoy the ohana spirit here! So nice to have a resort with free beach chairs, umbrellas, matts and towels to take to lil beach (15 mins drive) Come for the sun, Stay for the fabulousness… we even stayed an extra day cause we loved it so much!

Upon arrival the first words out of my mouth were «adorable» then «beautiful» This property is so well maintained and just feels like a home away from home. Then walking into the lobby and being greeted by Michael who stayed late to welcome us it made our trip, which started out rough, feel like things were turning for the better.
The property is small but it’s very tropical and exactly what you want when you are on an island. The big fancy hotels are great but sometimes it’s nice feeling more local and in the culture of the island.
We stayed in the junior suite and everything thing from the rustic front door to the waterfall on the lanai was awesome. The bed was huge and super comfortable, you just fall into it after a long day of vacation life :)
The only two things I’d change would be bigger shower and curtain to go over the glass portion of the wall that lets light in. But that’s me being spoiled.
Love, love, love this hotel and won’t stay anywhere else if we come back to Maui!!!

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with this place, just expected a little more from a place with resort in the name, and for the price, but overall the stay was pleasant and comfortable. Central to Maui in Kihei, you can get just about anywhere on the island within 40 min (except Hana …) And restaurants and good stuff is located just a few minutes south.
Many might expect to find restaurants nearby or on campus for most resorts, or a concierge near the front desk, or even a gift shop (God forbid) on a lower level or something. This place doesn’t offer that, and really it doesn’t need to. It more resembles a condo style hotel with rooms that have a fridge, microwave, sink and stove, and utensils and such. Massages are offered on site though, and are typically done on the second floor near the clothing optional sundeck.
Other things included are ONE small hot tub (max 8, but we crammed in 12) in the common areas and a very small pool that is (sometimes) heated due to solar panels being blocked out by trees in winter/​spring. There’s self service laundry on site, chairs and things you can borrow for beach going. There’s a BBQ area with grills and cooking utensils, and a rooftop deck that offers nifty views of the sunset. Again, most the common areas are clothing optional, so, BBQ at your own risk.

And btw the rooms are comfy, the beds are… Ok. The walls can be kinda thing though, and the garden decks aren’t private (people can walk by to exit, or get Beach things and see into your room) so just draw the shades… Also, didn’t notice a safe in room.
All this though seemed a little pricey for what it was. I’ve spent the same money on a big resort kinda place with a meal or two included, but no worries. Plenty to do off grounds.

This is our second stay here and I would highly recommend it. It’s the only gay adult-​only lodging on the island. We’ve had enough of staying at chain properties dealing with kids screaming and running around.
Sunseeker recently completed an overhaul where they added another building of suites as well as a small pool, office and penthouse.
The property is in fantastic condition and being central to everything in Maui is a big advantage to us. Lahaina is only a 25 minute drive north. Wailea is 10 – 12 minutes south. It’s 10 – 15 minutes from Kahului Airport and Upcountry is about 40 minutes away.
The staff is great… Joe, Michael and Terrell are eager to help and care about what they do.
There are no «resort fees» or charges for parking. What you pay for is what you get: clean rooms, wifi, parking, pool, grills for cooking and chairs/​umbrellas/​coolers for use at the beach.
A café is in the planning stage that will provide as an on-​site breakfast and lunch option.

2 days here in the south side of Maui and loved it. Stayed in a Jr Suite and the backyard is a little shitty but I didn’t care, to get to the beach I had to climb down a small cliff into some bushes, not a bad sight at all. Beautiful place for sure. Oh and I took in a chameleon into our room… Don’t tell, but it was hard not to take it in.

Where to start! Recently we had our wedding at the Maui Sunseeker garden. Not living, or have ever been to Maui we relied heavily on reviews and different phone conversation with Michael, Maui Sunseeker manager. It is hard to express how overly impressed we were with every interaction we had with Michael and his staff. They exceeded all of our expectations. Our day was absolutely perfect in every way and Stress Free! Michael and his staff get all the credit for making our day 110% about us, our family and friends 43 in total. They all went out of their way to ensure it was perfect. We give the Maui Sunseeker, and Michael the highest review possible. If you are considering having your special day in Maui I strongly recommend doing it at the Maui Sunseeker. You can tell this is their passion and that makes all the difference in the world. Made a quick two day trip to Maui, first stop Sunseeker. True meaning of Aloha! As an airbnb host myself, they did a beautiful job of making me feel welcomed. A great property, I had a beautiful room, with a terrace overlooking a very blue ocean. The location is amazing, as you’re literally on the beach, and minutes away from restaurants, shops, and yes… more beautiful beaches. I wish I could have stayed longer. I’ll be back!

It was the perfect little getaway hotel for my combined romantic/​business trip. They had very clear instructions on how to arrive late, bed was very comfortable, room was well appointed and parking was easy. It was a quick drive to food/​bars and we both sleep superbly.

If you’re planning a trip to Maui, we couldn’t imagine a better experience than at the Sunseeker. We stayed in two different rooms and BOTH were fantastic. The rooms are clean, comfortable, well decorated, are stocked with everything you need from the expected (nice glass, plates, utensils, linens, etc.) to the sometimes unexpected (full kitchen, armoires, spacious bedrooms/​closets/​living rooms, TVs with satellite and channels galore, internet, barstools, NICE artwork, the list goes on and on and on). The sprawling, private grounds are nothing short of beautiful with plenty of places to relax. More varieties of trees, flowers, and foliage than these former mainlanders had ever seen in one place. Extra amenities include a pool, hot tub, nice and modern grills, a business center, massage room, beach gear (snorkeling equipment, body boards, chairs, umbrellas, etc.), laundry, gift shop items, etc. To top it off, EVERYTHING is ultra clean and very well maintained. It is quiet, peaceful and relaxing. Fresh linens and towels daily. A beautiful, un-​crowded beach is literally a stone’s throw away. Watching the nightly sunsets from their rooftop lounge area simply cannot be beat. The pride of ownership is evident in all they do. We could go on for hours…
However, better than ANY of the above are the owner and staff. When you stay at the Sunseeker, you’re not treated as simply a guest — you are truly OHANA (family). We moved from the mainland and our initial reservations fell through. We were literally in a parking lot at 9:30 p.m., faced with the prospect of sleeping in our vehicle. We called the Sunseeker and they immediately accommodated us. We intended to stay only a night or two while securing a permanent residence. When it became clear that finding our home wouldn’t be quick (or easy), we asked to extend our stay. The staff moved us to a room with a full kitchen (see above) and more room — simply to make things easier for us. Chuck, Michael and everyone here went way out of their way to help us in every way they possibly could. We ended up staying 15 nights and we could not think of a single thing to complain about if we tried.
Whether you are coming to Maui for a few days or a few weeks, you will not have an overall better experience anywhere else than the Sunseeker. We not only had an unbeatable stay but also became friends with some of the best people we could ever hope to meet. If we could rate the Sunseeker at 100 stars it wouldn’t be enough!

I had a great experience at the Maui Sunseeker! I was there in early Sept this year. The staff were warm and helpful. We were greeted quickly and given a nice tour of the property. I like the thoughtful details like available grills, snorkel gear, full kitchen with dishes, etc. The pool and hot tub were nice. I really enjoyed the size and feel of the property – smaller, quiet, but plenty of nice people stopping by the pool etc. I was here just for a few days but would enjoy making this my home base for a longer stay on Maui.

Just recently stayed at this fantatico place and well, 46, travel extensively for work and cant say enough about it. Enough said? no way.
The staff are like family immediately, cant do enough, help enough or be any kinder, the place itself is just beautiful, very clean, organized and liek a home from home and then location is priceless.
Literally on the beach, we simply crossed the little road to enjoy a beach day or drove twenty minutes south to the other beach options so close and so easy to find.
Restaurants, supermarkets (safeway) and the beautiful Maui energy in spades at this gorgeous little slice of heaven. Can’t wait to go back in a few weeks, this is my new home away from home. thanks everyone for making it so amazing.
Imagine, in 2014, customer service to the max is still available at sunseekers Maui along with gorgeous bedding, mattress’s and PEACE, no annoying music umped through the pace and nothing but the sound of the ocean to fall sleep to.
HEAVEN.

This place is fabulous! All aspects of the service were excellent. We were met after hours for our late arrival and treated to a warm welcome. Housekeeping was spotless and our room was attractively furnished and fully renovated. All of the Restaraunt and tour recommendations were superb. I cannot say enough good things about this gem of a place. I would note the dates of any less than stellar reviews. This was a tremendous value in a spectacular location!!!

This was our 5^th trip to the sunseeker. However, this time, it included out Maui wedding. Each time we have stayed at the Sunseeker, our experience gets better.
We booked a total of 7 rooms for this trip (wedding party). Michael, the general manager, took extraordinary care of us through the booking process and wedding arrangements (countless changes, which Michael happily accommodated).
We stayed in the new 421 suite which is amazing, but had the opportunity to check in on our guests in other rooms (small studio through the penthouse). All of our guests were very happy with the accommodations and service.
I read through previous reviews and wanted to address some specifics. The Sunseeker is a small resort. If you are looking for a spa or multiple amenity hotel, then I would suggest the grand wailea or the four seasons. However, if you are looking for a comfortable hotel, that is very clean, has a great social atmosphere and impeccable service (personable, can-​do attitude among all the staff), then the Sunseeker is the right place for you. While booking, I’ve always checked the rates for other small resorts and not found any of the same caliber for near the price.
I guess the proof is in the pudding, as they say. The hotel was completely booked during our stay and as we were leaving the staff was gearing up for all the new guests. We will certainly be back!!!

Given the 4.5 star average, my expectations for the Maui Sunseeker were very high. To say that I’m disappointed is the most charitable way to put it.
First, please note: this is basically a budget motel. This is one of the cheapest deals you can get for a room on Maui, and you really do get what you pay for. Apparently some of the rooms have recently been remodeled, but everything in our room was old. Poorly-​installed bathroom tiles, broken blinds, windows that appear to have never been washed, and a truly gross old mattress (which I saw repeatedly because the fitted sheets did not stay on the bed) were just a few of the décor highlights. Most of the furniture in the room, save the very cheap HDTV, looked (and smelled) like it was at least 15 – 20 years old. When we checked in, the comforter was stained and I had to call to get a new one. The room did have a fairly large fridge and some dishes, so that was a plus.
All of the enclosed outdoor spaces of the hotel grounds are clothing optional, although several of these areas are visible from the street due to the construction of a new building, so I’m not sure what the idea is there. The grounds themselves have potential but, like the room, there is a distinct lack of attention to detail everywhere you look. The pool is okay, but very small and situated so that it gets very little direct sunlight. The hotel website says there are two hot tubs, but we only found one, and it is a major disappointment. It’s an above-​ground tub big enough for a residence, but definitely not adequate for a hotel of any size. It overflows and shorts out if more than four small people are in it. The sun deck is a nice space.
The one saving grace of the Sunseeker are the people — both the staff and the clientele. Every hotel guest we encountered was friendly and talkative. The staff was very helpful and did what they could to make our stay better. On our second day there, after leaving the room at 9am and not returning until 7pm, we found that our room had not been made up. Given that we were already disappointed with the hotel, this was beyond frustrating. The front desk was already closed, but the very nice employee who answered the main line had our room clean within 30 minutes and even gave us some beer left over by a guest who had checked out that day. He was great, but the fact that this situation even occurred is unacceptable.
We probably would not stay at the Sunseeker again. The website boasts a 40% guest return rate, but I think the obvious reason for that is that this is simply the only LGBT-​centric resort on the island. I find it highly unlikely that anyone is coming to this hotel for the hotel itself, as very few things about it are impressive or even very good. It has a lot of potential, but until they really start paying attention to the small details it will remain a below-​average hotel.

This place is great! It’s also about as gay as they come, so I’m not sure what was going on when other reviewers stayed here.
Clean large rooms with kitchenettes, cool AC, large pool and clothing-​optional hot tub and deck. Very friendly staff and naked people in the hot tub in our first day! Can’t complain.
They have purchased the 2 buildings behind them and are in the process of renovating them. We stayed in the back building and got a sweet deal because of the lack of lanai. Totally worth it and it felt very private! I look forward to coming again and seeing what they do with the place. It’s going to be pretty awesome!
One star off only for the WIFI– it doesn’t work. I don’t require it (and it was the only place on our stay that even offered it) but we were told on the first day that it wasn’t very good. In that case, don’t advertise it, and if it does work it would be a little bonus.
Also, as someone else said, I think this place NEEDS some kind of built-​in socializing. Maybe a potluck once a day (or even once a week) where they provide Mai Tais and everyone brings a pupu?
Anyway, if you want to be out and proud in Maui-​stay here!

First off, if you’re reading other reviews, take note of when they were written.
Last fall, the TV reality series «Hotel Impossible» with Anthony Melchiorri focused an episode on the Sunseeker and the improvements were remarkable. The TV show centered on the refurbishment of one suite, but the new owners of the resort were savvy enough to continue with the same upgrades to all their rooms.
I don’t know if it’s possible to see the show on demand, but on the Sunseeker website you can get a good feel for how it was handled. Very interesting. But nonetheless, it did wonders for the hotel.
I was there last weekend and stayed in a one-​bedroom suite right off the pool and hot tub. I was worried that there’d be late-​night noise, but everyone was considerate and it was not a problem.
As for the suite, it was spotless. The housekeeping service was excellent. The bedroom was roomy with a big, plush, comfy bed with pillows a-​plenty!
Overall, a great experience and I’d definitely recommend it to anyone. Plus, I’ll for sure be staying there on future trips to Maui.
