Just got back from a terrible meal at the CHINTZY Whistling Train Saloon! We sat a high booth/table in the bar area. From the printed menu my husband ordered Seafood Diablo(which was a valentine’s special that included bread, salad and dessert for $ 22.99) and I ordered Teriyaki Flank Steak, but I was told that this was no longer being served(why wasn’t it crossed off the menu?). So I asked if I could have the Teriyaki Strip Steak that was written on the chalk board($ 18.99), the waitress came back to the table after checking with the chef and said he could make that for me. I ordered the STRIP steak well done and asked if I could have a baked potato instead of mashed potatoes, but was told they don’t make baked potatoes because it takes to long to cook — went with the mashed potatoes. Also keeping in mind that my meal does not come with bread, salad or dessert. While we waited for our food I asked for a napkin, she brought us our silverware wrapped in napkin(we didn’t get or were offered another napkin for the rest of the meal). My husband was brought his salad and he told me it was the worst Italian dressing he’s ever had. The waitress comes to get his bowl and asks him how his salad was, he told her it was okay. She asked is it because of the dressing? He said yes and she said, yea I’ve been telling the chef he needs to do something(so why would you not suggest another dressing to your customer???). Our dinners arrived. My husband asked the waitress if his meal came with bread, she said oh yea the chef must have forgotten. He was brought A SINGLEROLL with a pad of butter. I began to cut into my steak and was disappointed because it was very RED — I sent it back. Waited for about 10 min and the steak came back. I began to cut into it again and this time was pissed off because it was STILLRED! I told the waitress to take it away, she apologized and asked if I wanted anything else, I said no because if the chef can’t cook a steak twice how can I trust him to cook me something else! I sat there and waited for my husband to eat his VERYSPICY Seafood Diablo which only consisted of 2 shrimp and 2 bay scallops over linguine with an over abundance of mushrooms. While waiting for him to finish his dinner the owner passed by us a three times without a word. Eventually the waitress asked him how his meal was and apologized to me again asking me if I wanted something else. I told her no, just to make sure I was not charged for my meal. She also brought over the valentine’s dinner special dessert menu. My husband chose the warm brownie with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, chocolate sauce and a cherry. While waiting for the dessert the owner(Val is her name) came to the table, apologized and informed me that she spoke to the chef who was very sorry! She asked me if I wanted something else, I told her the same thing I told the waitress and she hoped that we would go back to give them another try. NOT!!! The dessert arrived in a very tall 12″ tall martini glass that we had to stand up to look into the dish! We both started to eat the dessert and noticed that it was not a brownie at the bottom of the glass, it was a piece of chocolate cake! I wanted to say something so bad, but I didn’t. We paid and left and will not go back. The box of mac and cheese that my husband made for me when we got home was so much better!!! PS — I can’t make this stuff up!!! LOL

First time at this restaurant. The room was cold but the service was good. My husband had the Seafood Alfredo and thoroughly enjoyed it. I didn’t do as well. The Baked Scallops were extremely dry and had a seasoning on it that I didn’t like. The Rice Pilaf was undercooked and felt like I was chewing on tiny sticks. Can’t complain about the waitress, she was very pleasant.

A group of us ended up in Danielson mid-roadtrip and stumbled upon this place. The saloon has been completely renovated in the last few years by the new owners, but has kept the original charm and feel of a passenger inn for the old railroad, just steps from the front door. The place still has the original flooring and country ambience, but is the cleanest saloon I’ve ever seen. The saloon serves traditional American favorites in good-sized portions. We each ordered something different and loved every bit of it. The club was a favorite of the table. The server was friendly and attentive as well. The place is huge inside and would be great for groups.

This Restaurant is the best tasting in the Killingly area. Lots to select from both hot and cold and is what I would call«American cuisine» fitting for an old fashioned passenger rail spot. Also, the bar features the tried and true as well as the latest and greatest from Black Pond Brewery which operates just a stones throw down the track.

I would do six stars if I had that option! Food — AMAZING. Service — IMPECCABLE. Vito was the greatest server, couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Will be back again soon!!!

Friendly service in an old fashioned environment. Average pub food menu, nothing too inventive here. Everything was cooked well. Burgers were tasty!

Stopped in after a wedding, place was nice but a little dead. Bartender started breaking down the bar while we were still there, she said it was not closing time yet, but we left because we kinda felt like she was trying to tell us something. But it was a cool bar anyway.

The motto here should be, «You won’t leave here hungry.» I came in for a bite after the brewery next door recommended the food. Black Pond brews a pale ale specifically for The Whistling Train, and it’s a great collaboration. The bar is casual but spotlessly clean; the dark wood glistened with fresh polish. The bartender was very friendly but not overbearing — he was a perfect example that truly tending bar is about more than just pouring a drink. The rest of the staff were equally friendly. I felt totally comfortable just hanging out by myself for a while. The portions here are HUGE and the food is high quality. My lobster mac was creamy and loaded with lobster. With a great neighborhood bar atmosphere, delicious food and some local brews on tap, this is definitely my kind of place.

Came in on a Friday at 1.30 look of the restaurant was very cool server was nice. I order a chicken park sandwich it took a long long time to come out and it was over cooked, very dry. Was a bit disappointed was expecting better from the reviews.

This place is a hidden gem in danielson. The food is amazing and very reasonable prices. Way better quality than all the average establishments around danielson/brooklyn. Also the local black pond beer brews are wonderful !! Love this place and a great nostalgic atmosphere!

Yummo! Found this place thanks to google maps. Great burger and a great chicken sandwich. Best of all were the fries! Friendly and understanding waitress since we were traveling with 2 kids under 13months.

The food is solid but nothing special. I had a steak which was a little over cooked but ok. They serve a little local beer so that was nice. The staff is lovely and the space itself is cool. It’s a restored building and they’ve done a good job of that. I’d go back and maybe try a burger, it seems more like that type of place.

We had the steak and cheese, haddock sandwich and mac & cheese off the kids menu. Everything was absolutely delicious! I was really pleasantly surprised(the location outside and interior aren’t new) with the meal. My husband, who hates fries, ate every single one on his plate. My haddock was fresh and flavorful. The mac and cheese was homemade and very cheesy — our daughter loved it. Would come back in a heartbeat and will recommend to friends.

This place just opened few weeks or maybe a month ago, and just love their décor! Feels like you’re in saloon! I was seated promptly and the waitress was so friendly and easy to get along. I ordered whistling train burger along with sweet fries, with Half Seas Over Peach Tea(alcoholic beverage which was amazing. The food took little while to arrive our table. The food was delicious! Although some of the sweet fries were burnt. Overall the service was amazing and will definitely come back again!

Have been here twice now with my wife. First time was just for a drink(out of curiosity). Felt so comfortable with the place that we ordered meals to go. Both were excellent(B.L.T. wrap and Seafood Alfredo). Very warm and inviting place to have a drink and dine. Second time, we are at the bar on a Saturday afternoon. Surprisingly steady crowd for that time. Good portions, friendly staff. No complaints here. A lovely addition to this quiet little area!
