Sleepy’s, The Mattress Professionals

Though I have had serious problems with Sleepy’s corporate operation, their salespeople are the BEST! David Meyer in this store was incredibly helpful, kind, patient, and cooperative. David wasn’t even getting any commission off of me, yet he helped me for over an hour. He found the perfect mattress for my severe back problems, and I’ve been sleeping soundly ever since. David is talented salesman and one heck of a nice guy. I advise you to buy your mattresses from him!

After a frustrating trip to America’s Mattress, I was hoping and praying my experience was a one-​off. Evans greeted me when I came in and was genuine in his efforts to try and figure out what I was looking for before showing me a single mattress. I have lower back problems so I don’t sleep well as a result, so the fact that he asked all sorts of questions before directing me anywhere was a welcome relief.
Unfortunately for me my quest ended empty handed since they didn’t have the one I wanted in my budget. The outlet center was unsuccessful also (Evans checked via the computer) although he did suggest I go to their Plymouth store to try 2 other options he thought I may like. (Unfortunately that didn’t pan out either, since the model I ended up liking turned out to be a discontinued model).
I felt like he genuinely cared about my experience and really wanted to help me find something that would work out. I work in sales, so I’m pretty good about telling when people are trying to push the sale on you (I’m talking to you America’s Mattress!) and when someone says, «here’s some options for you. Go try them out and then figure it out» you know they aren’t worried about you, they are worried about their commission. I definitely left feeling like he cared about finding me the perfect mattress; unfortunately, it resulted in me leaving empty handed.

I had a terrible experience at this Sleepy’s a few months ago. I’m not going to mention names — I’m not looking to get anyone fired — but our sales rep was pushy and downright disrespectful of our time and requests.
I was looking for a mattress in a particular price range. The sales rep acknowledged that range, then proceeded to spend more than 30 minutes showing us all the most expensive mattresses in the store. We were then forced in a circuit around all the store’s mattresses, including a diagnostic sleep assessment. Finally we had the chance to focus on mattresses in our desired range. There weren’t many, but we found a couple options.
I had been looking at a couple other stores at the time and told our sales rep we’d think about a couple options here. He then proceeded to engage an unwanted haggling process, and at one point told us we were «not allowed to leave» until he got his manager at the phone, with whom he wanted me to negotiate prices. We made clear we would consider the options here at Sleepy’s, but our rep again seemed desperate to push us into a sale. It was a very uncomfortable shopping experience and based on this customer service, I would personally never return to this store.

After a disastrous experience with a Sleepy’s in Center City, I decided to head out to the suburbs for round two — and was pleasantly surprised. Despite the typical salesman spiel, Jim seemed like a decent guy. He worked with my budget, didn’t pressure me, and got me a great deal on my new mattress.
Next-​day delivery was pretty painless — the store actually called the truck drivers to get their ETA, so I didn’t waste my entire Sunday. In the end, my mattress arrived an hour later than the «guaranteed» delivery time — but I received a follow-​up call from Sleepy’s to let me know that the truck was running late, so I didn’t even mind. Once the truck was here, the delivery guys got my queen-​size mattress up a narrow staircase (with three turns) and assembled the bed frame — all in less than 10 minutes.

I got my first new mattress here and I really enjoyed the experience of «trying on» mattresses. Devin was working and helped me out a lot! He suggested a few mattresses that might work and commented on whether they looked firm enough for my needs (I have a herniated disc and other back problems) and got me a great deal on a mattress set! He was incredibly friendly and though I’m pretty sure they all work on commission, I didn’t feel pressured in the least. I gave him my budget and he did his best to stick well under it. I paid well under sticker price for the whole package and I love my new mattress! The delivery guys were friendly, even though they had to wait 10 minutes at my apt for me to get home! They even took the old mattress and box to the dumpster for me for no charge!
The next time I need a new mattress (hopefully not for a long time!) I’ll definitely go back. I’d recommend the place to anyone, though I was only there once, so I make no guarantees. :)
