While visiting a customer, they recommended this place for some local bbq fare. It was very good. The people running the place were also super friendly and gave us a small sample of brisket to try. It is cafeteria style; order from a counter and go sit down. I like that for bbq places. I also like it because I can refill my drink when I want from the fountain instead of waiting for a waitress.

My wife and I eat at Pig Shack regularly. The food is always good and the price isn’t bad. Their sauce is incredible and their brisket is awesome!

(Disclaimer: I hate Lexington style bbq) I really didn’t want to visit this joint. I am glad I did. I was raised in the armpit of bbq country getting a mixture of texas, st. Louis and memphis. so sweet sticky bbq sauce was a non verbal way to tell a girl you love her. put it on beef?-heck yeah. no sin there. pig?- that’s good too. so when I tried the Lexington style I thought someone was screwing with me. just not my style. so when I found out that 2 miles from my shack is the pig shack and therein I can get sweet sticky beef brisket. or if Lexington is your speed, they have that too. I really like this place OVER any bbq I have tried this side of black mt. NC. Also try their cobblers. yummm.

The Pig Shack in King North Carolina is located directly across the new Sheetz and only a few minutes off route 52. It is a terrific gem of an eatery in the Winston Salem area. This is authentic high-quality great smokin’ barbecue North Carolina style. We have tried the white meat chicken breast which is truly the very best barbecue our family has had. The restaurant has handouts which indicates that their brisket won number one place in a national cookoff in Las Vegas and 2012. We found to be tender with a smoked-in flavor that was well-balanced not overpowering and so good that we have returned to this restaurant five times over the past two months for more of the same. All of the side dishes are also very good. I particularly like the potato salad and a barbecue slaw. The hush puppies are terrific ! Whether dining in in or take it out the pricing is extremely reasonable. If you choose to dine in you’ll find a family oriented casual atmosphere and so clean that it’s noticeable. That’s always a good indicator that the kitchen would be immaculate as well. This is truly a great spot to add to your first pics whether you live in Winston-Salem area or passing through the area on route 52. One last personal observation. I travel great deal nationally with some international travel as well. On a few occasions I’ve written reviews of restaurants I’ve enjoyed. I would’ve never guessed that a restaurant in this very low price range would deserve a five star rating. But considering the quality of the food after five different visits, the cleanliness of the restaurant and the friendly informative service this place deserves it. I’d prefer another name for this restaurant such as the«areas best barbecue».

This recent addition to the Piedmont area BBQ scene offers St Louis style ribs, Beef Brisket, BBQ Chicken, and BBQ Pork, all the handy work of an award winning competiion BBQ team turned restauranteurs trophies and ribbons are on display. This is a small place with a fast food setup, and even a drive thru. We ordered the 3 Meat Combo Dinner with Hushpuppies and 2 sides. The meat choices were BBQ Chicken, BBQ Pork, and Beef Brisket — the sides were FF and Creamy Cole Slaw. The Beef Brisket was outstanding — moist, tender, with a nice smokey flavor. I imagine it would be complete killer on a sandwich with slaw. The FF were nice, but everything else was ordinary to seriously lacking. The Pork was chopped coarse, had little real taste on its own, and the BBQ sauce was just sweet, no kick whatsoever — not sure what kind of sauce this was — not Eastern NC, not Lexington, didn’t even seem Western NC — hybrid seems the right term. The BBQ Chicken was incredibly dry with a thick, sweet sauce glopped on top. The sauce is described as Grandma’s Olé Time BBQ Sauce — this is a sauce Grandma should have kept secret, and taken with her to the next world, and beyond. The hushpuppies were a touch dry, witth little flavor, and the Creamy Cole Slaw was not creamy, and had nothing approaching flavor. This dinner combo with a drink was almost $ 19 — definitely over priced and completely unspectacular, save for the Brisket. This is not a destination BBQ joint, heck it isn’t even a drive by BBQ joint, except for the Brisket.

Had lunch today at the Pig Shack. This place is directly across from the new Sheetz in King. First thing I noticed was the great wood smoke smell. Found out they smoke the meats with hickory wood. I got a «Little Bull Sandwich»(beef brisket) and it had a really good smoke flavor and taste. For my side, I got baked beans with apples! Never had apples in baked beans. They were okay, nothing special, but okay. Wife got a pork BBQ tray with red slaw. The pork was also very good, not quite as much smoke flavor as the brisket, but it had a very good taste. Me and my wife thought the red slaw had to much vinegar. It wasn’t bad, but it was definitely the only thing I really didn’t care for during our first meal at the Pig Shack. I like the way they’ve decorated the inside of the restaurant, it had a nice feel. Cheerwine at the soda fountain was a pleasant surprise, and much appreciated. I have a feeling this place will do well in King.(closed on Mondays)
