With Cal Neva under renovation, I had to seek alternative lodging options on the north shore. Once Cal Neva is ready, it will be out of my price range. Found Big 7 Motel through positive online reviews and decided to give them a try. They have no website or online bookings, but after a quick phone call, was able to find they had availability for a queen bedded room for $ 59 on a Saurday night in late January during the middle of a terrible ski season(no snow since early December.) Pros: Fair price, friendly man working, clean room, microwave, mini refrigerator, noon checkout & complimentary coffee and granola bars upon request before 10:00am. Cons: No hot tub or wifi and a bit of a far walk(1.6 miles uphill) to the casinos. This may become my new go to place on the north shore.

I decided to give it a 5 star, the manager is very good, helpful and generous person. The rooms are inexpensive, close to the beach and have all the facilities. I just missed the internet part. So request the manager if he can set up something for Internet at additional few $ increase in rent :)

This place gets 5 stars and this will be my first phone call for lodging when I stay in Kings Beach again. The place was very reasonably priced at about $ 50/night. The manager Robert was very nice on the phone when I called to make my reservations. We were cutting it close to the 10pm check-in time. Robert politely mentioned that if we don’t think we can make it by 10pm then to call him and we could make arrangements to do so. We just made it by 10pm. There was construction in the parking lot and Robert said that we could park right next to our room so that it would be easy to unload. It wasn’t an official parking spot but it was raining. That was pretty nice of Robert to let us do that and we didn’t have to worry about getting towed. The room had a nice ceiling fan that worked, mini fridge and cable TV. The tile shower was clean and had a light in it. The towels were soft enough and didn’t feel like sand paper. The sheets and bed were clean. The carpet was clean and I felt safe taking off my shoes =) The only downside is that there is not wireless internet access. That didn’t bother us, but for some techies it might be a must. You also had to request a microwave. All in all this place was awesome! And a nice little bonus was that there was even a small basket of granola bars on the front desk in the morning as a quick breakfast snack. I didn’t expect that in a cheap motel. I will certainly call this hotel the next time that I am in Tahoe.

Great price! $ 70ish for a night. Hot showers! Bike friendly just ask for blankets for in-room parking! Right off the main drag of town with sushi across the parking lot! 2 minutes from the beach!

Inexpensive hotel(we paid about $ 70 in Jan 2010). The guy at the counter was very nice and helpful. The room was small, but clean and quaint. Overall, much nicer then I expected for the price. The only issue would be noise — you can hear the neighbors tv through the wall, and cars starting in the morning are pretty loud. If you are hoping to sleep in past 8:00 or so, the car noise of people leaving will probably wake you. I will definitely stay here again.
