I had a great experience renting skis here for myself, my 4-year old daughter, and my mother. The employees were kind and friendly, and got us the right sizes and fittings for both cross country and downhill skis at a good price. The owner was kid– friendly, he pulled out a toy for my daughter to play with while we were there, which helped immensely. And the topper to the excellent service was the boot carrier they gave us for the downhill ski boots, which made carrying them a million times easier.

Not sure how Unilocal knew that I was there last summer( Unilocal knows what I did last summer!!) but this shop turned a bad riding day into a great day. I had just started a training ride and got a flat. After changing the tube I noticed the tire had a big gash on the side, but I did not have a spare. I walked the bike down to the shop and the guys there had me back in the saddle in minutes with friendly service to boot. Could not have asked for more.

This place, I think Dave is who helped me? I don’t know, he was super helpful. He got me on a rental bike because I left mine at home and set me off riding for a ridiculously low price compared to his competitors.

I really think the problem of renting snowboards in these places is that often people who ski and don’t have experience snowboarding are the ones improperly setting up the boards. I’ve learned my lesson. This has happened twice in December in two different shops. One in the South side, and this one in the North side. On one occasion, I was given a board that was too short for me from a shop on the South side. And at this specific shop on the North side, I also ran into problems with the board rental. The gentlemen set up my bindings improperly — an xl binding on a small boot. I failed to check the fit of the bindings because I was excited to get on the mountain. That was my mistake. I should have doubled checked the bindings before leaving the shop. I thought he had already adjusted the bindings to my boot. I’ve rented boards before and have never encountered this problem. A proper board set up is key to having a good day on the mountain. If the bindings don’t fit, you cannot safely use the board. It just won’t be rideable if it’s not secured to your boot, and then that’s it for you because there isn’t enough time to go back and forth to get the problem fixed, the mountain is open only until 4. :( I liked these people, the gentlemen and lady who I believe own the shop. I had no problems with them or the service, and I had no reason to complain. They seem like good, honest, nice people. And I will always support local shops over big business. So I hate that I have to give them one star. I wish this didn’t happen and I could give them four stars because if circumstances were different I would in a heartbeat. But it was negligent and a mistake on the shopkeeper’s part that could have injured me. I can’t overlook that. I don’t even want to think about the consequences of what could happen if I took a nasty fall on a board that was not correctly set up. The size of the binding was way too large for my boot. If your bindings are not properly secured to your boots, it could be extremely dangerous to any boarder. Someone who doesn’t have experience would have just used the board as is and severely hurt themselves. That is why it’s so scary that this happened at all. It’s bad when I think about the possibilities of my foot snapping because of the bindings. I don’t know if it was carelessness from the shopkeeper or he just simply forgot. But an improper set up is never good. If this is your first time, please make sure you check the bindings for both your boots and make sure it is adjusted to your boot size and fits securely. Don’t make my mistake and learn later, when it’s much too late to go back, that the bindings don’t fit. Your bindings should be properly mounted if you want to ride safely. We rented two boards and one helmet. My bf had no problems. The shopkeeper set up his bindings correctly and adjusted it to fit his boots. But I wasn’t so lucky. Boo :( Because of this, I was not able to use the board, and it cost me money and time on the mountain. It gave me a whole lot of grief. I wasted almost three hours trying to find someone who had the tools and ability to readjust the bindings so I could finally hit the slopes. I could not ride the board without risking injury until that problem was fixed. One of the workers at the resort couldn’t believe the shopkeeper sent me out with bindings that weren’t set up right. He could see the sadness and disappointment on my face and took the time to readjust them for me, making sure the boot fit securely to the bindings. If it weren’t for this worker from the resort, I would have never be able to go on the mountain that day. There is no time to go back and forth on the mountain when the hours are so short, everyone knows that. So make sure you go to a reputable place and always check your bindings! Anyway, we went back the next day, my bf explained to the shopkeeper about the binding problem and that I wasn’t able to use the board and that we wasted our money on this rental but most of all our time and it ended up costing us our overall experience on the mountain. He gave us a partial refund. It’s time consuming, expensive, and you have all this excitement building inside and hope to have the best run and the day to be memorable and worthwhile, but if you get a board that’s improperly set up, you won’t be able to go on the mountain at all and will lose not only your money, but most of all, your time and your experience and leave with disappointment instead of beautiful memories. It’s heartbreaking especially when you drove a great distance to get there and spent so much money on the trip, hoping to make it special

My boyfriend and I rented one set of skis and a snowboard set. The service was great and the prices were unbeatable. Came in minutes before they closed on accident but got no attitude. Super knowledgeable about the area and which hills were skiable and discounts available. Rental equipment was in acceptable to good rental condition. Happy with the service and the gear. Would recommend!

I absolutely love this shop and the people that run it! I’ve been all over Tahoe to rent snowboard gear, and this store is easily the best-priced. I thought I was a little bit more advanced a snowboarder than I actually am, and when I first went in, one of the employees took the time to explain in detail what kind of bindings and board he thought I’d be best suited for – and he was right on the money. These guys know their stuff, and have the gear to back it up. If you’re not rich and prefer independently owned businesses, this is the place to go. I own a rental unit in Kingswood Village and I’ve been asked so often where to rent gear that I now leave a stack of cards for Tahoe Bike and Ski on the counter. It would hurt my business if I advised people poorly! These people – and their adorable little puppy! – are the absolute best.

Loved renting ski equipment from Don this week. He was very patient with the 6 of us and the equipment was great. I totally recommend renting from Don’s shop. Discovered this shop from other Unilocalers and was not disappointed.

Tahoe Bike & Ski is the place to be for renting your snowboard gear! I have been to this place twice and I have received great service. Don was very helpful in making sure I got the right fit for my snowboard and snow boots. Also, for your FYI, renting your snow gear at the resorts are expensive. Don offers the lowest prices! I can’t complain! For as long as I need to rent snow gear, this will probably be my go-to place. Go to Tahoe Bike & Ski for your rentals AND support local business!

Avoid this place at any possibility! Worst customer service ever and we had to walk away, which is not something I normally do. First, we walked in and the store was empty and noone was inside. A few minutes later the guy shows up. We asked a question about closest bike trail and what bikes we should rent and he was so hard to talk to, we could not get a word from him. Super unhelpful. The only thing he told us is the trail is 5 miles away and we need to ride in highway and than carry our bikes up the hill to the mountain in Tahoe city, which was absolute lie. There are so many short trails around and if only he would be more friendly, we wold definitely rent.

I came here to rent a bike for mountain biking right after New Year’s 2012. Temperatures were in the 50s during the day around that time, and there was no snow. I called to see if they had any bikes and they said they had 3 left, first come first serve. When I got there about 30 minutes later, they had one old crappy Trek bike left. It still had a «sale: 299.99» tag left on it. The guy who rented it to me was quite taciturn but he gave me a hand-drawn map and showed me where all the trails were. I went out and had a great time biking around despite the crappy bike, and paid $ 29 for the 4 hour rental. It seemed kind of steep to pay 10% of the bike’s old«sale» value to rent it for 4 hours, but I didn’t really have any other choices – this was the only place within walking distance since I didn’t have a car.

Great service. Great deal on ski rental. Great location for Northstar. We decided to get our ski equipment here because of their location and especially because of the price($ 19 per person /day). It was a very busy Saturday Morning when my bf and I walked into this little shop on North Lake Blvd. Even though there were only a dozen people in the store it was very crowd. The store is stuffed with everything you need to enjoy a day in the snow. The owner and his wife(?) made sure everyone was taken care of and were really easy going about returning equipment too. Check out their website for a coupon.

Don was very helpful with finding the right bikes for me and my friends. He also helped us pick a suitable trail for some out of towners. I thought the quality of bikes and length of rental to be of great value. If you go to their website you can print a coupon for a discount.
