I don’t understand the bad reviews. Look at the place from the outside and no one with common sense would expect a luxury dining experience. Yes the place looks run down, so maybe not the best idea if you have food allergies. Yes the lady that runs the joint seems rude on the phone when she yells«come get now» and hangs up, but don’t take it personally. She is super sweet in person! My husband and I order regularly here as the food tastes great. BIG fan of their hot and sour soup, as well as the fried rice. It always tastes great, we’ve never gotten sick and we will be coming back!

Tough to give a poor review but after eating here last week I won’t return. Ordered five dishes and none were good. The Wor Won Ton was bland, as were the other dishes. Sorry!

We had the Moo Goo chicken, Hunan, chicken, BBQ Lomein. Delicious food and fast-friendly service. Would recommend this stop over.

This little place turns out some pretty good food. The staff is nice and the portions for the price is good. I recommend this eatery to anyone who likes good food. Sure, its not San Francisco folks, but pretty damn good for the Tahoe area.

This place is not for sensitive people. The conditions are anti sanitary, windows are very dirty and they have a mirror on the wall that you cannot see your reflection in because of years of dust and splashes. They have no restroom inside and no ventilation. Food was ok with an exception of too much sauce on every dish which made the food overtly salty.

Bad food. Food either over or under cooked and drowning in liquid. Drive a few extra miles to another place! Lady on phone also hung up before we were through placing order.

The food deserves more than one star in terms of taste, but unfortunately my chicken lo mein meal made me ill. I’m guessing due to MSG, which I’m sensitive to. You get what you pay for. Staff was friendly, although they make the location awkward in that they were all dining themselves when we arrived. They also aren’t clear in whether you must take out, or able to dine in. Ultimately we dined in, although all menus were labeled — take out only. Clearly not a clean establishment, but again, they’re serving a plate of food for under $ 7.

I was visiting Tahoe from San Francisco… The food is BETTER then any I’ve had in the city outside China Town. The prices are very good here too. My favorite restaurant in Tahoe…

I’m not sure why this place has such bad reviews. To me, it tastes like authentic Chinese food. I ordered the chicken chow mein and it was amazing. I haven’t had good Chinese food in a long time. The woman working was super attentive and nice. I will definitely be back!

This place is not the most appealing visually but honestly the food is always pretty good. I only come here for take out and it is always pleasant.

Yes, it’s a cash only joint. There is an ATM open 24×7200 feet away We ordered the family dinner. She was really super nice to us. The kids loved the chicken chow mein. There is the 3 stars. We ordered hot and sour soup. It was quite sour. Mongolian beef with broccoli. Sweet and sour pork. Egg rolls. Veggie fried rice. All were not so bad. My favorite was the celery. They need help to revamp the food. Hopefully, you don’t have allergies.

So unclean — and that’s spoken from someone who ate at decrepit street stalls in SE Asia. All of the dishes taste the same. The tofu is overwhelmingly soggy. Everything is five times more coated in oil than need be. She was shelling massive bowls of really smelly shrimp with her bare hands at the table adjacent to us on our first visit(yes, we tried a second time to be nice). Just…don’t. Indra’s in Incline is a much better option.

Reminds me of the neighborhood Chinese restaurants in the city. No frills atmosphere, good, authentic food at very reasonable prices. Hostess/owner was very gracious and made us feel very welcome. Our go to place for Chinese food on the north shore.

Let me start out by saying the lady who likely owned the place was crazy friendly and very talkative. She even wanted us to try the hot and sour soup before we left to make sure it was to our liking. I’m want to give this a 2.5 because the place was NOT Zagat rated if you know what I mean. The place was very cluttered(magazines all over) and had junk stacked up in the corners. When we arrived, we interrupted what I believe to be a spring roll making session. They were just stacked on the table when completed(see image). For whatever reason, we ordered anyway and it was decent. The shrimp kung pao had 10 shrimps and 20lbs of celery and no nuts which seemed odd. The hot and sour soup was different too since it had squash and peas and carrots. The flavor was good and the best thing is that we didn’t get sick. We were both thrilled with that outcome. Oh and the bell hanging on the front door scared the shit out of me.

Super nice couple running a totally run-down joint. So run down and sketch that younexpect that the food HAS to be good for them to survive. Wrong. While it wasn’t inedible, it definitely wasn’t up to par. Everything was heavily flavored with soy sauce. Like a bottle of soy sauce, per — dish — ! Sweet n sour chicken was actually not bad, but it almost glowed red, but hey, it wasnt doused in soy sauce. Chow mein was made with what looked like spaghetti noodles and lots of mystery meat. If you shut your eyes or are too inebriated to think about it, it tasted fine. Again, noodles were practically black from the soy sauce. Bbq pork Fried rice, again black and salty from the soy. Same with the tofu and veggies. The food isn’t worthy of 4 stars. But given it doesn’t serve an Asian clientele and it’s the only chinese restaurant on the stretch I get it but even if your idea of good Chinese is Panda Express, you will be disappointed.

Ok, I’ve seen hole in the wall type places, and this pretty much tops them all. I was staying in a hotel only a short drive away and was just craving… food… anything. Unilocaled up a few places, and also drove past this little shack of a place as well a few times until my friend and I stood in front debating weather or not to come in and order. My first semi-racist remark was about. since it was kinda in the middle of nowhere. I was pretty sure that at least a Chinese person would be the one cooking up the food, lol. It was a little eccentric, but this old lady opened the door and invited us in to check out the specials. She was a very enthusiastic lady that kept on describing how good the food was… basically swaying our decision to definitely try the place out. Her attitude was certainly expected, and I was going to check out the food regardless of her sales pitch. We ordered orange chicken, sweet and sour pork, BBQ fried rice, and beef broccoli to go. The first thing that came out was the fried rice(as expected since it barely takes much time to cook) and the same crazy kind lady opened the box to reveal a nice portion of fried rice and insisted on us trying out the food to make sure it was as good as she described. Took a small spoon of it, and tried it out… and she. WASNOTLYING. OMG it was good… the beef broccoli shortly showed up later and we tried a piece of beef as well as we waited for our last two items. I don’t think I’ve ever had beef that literally melted in my mouth as well as this place did. Oh! and the orange chicken… actually tasted of orange! Other places I’ve seen… the orange flavor gets too overpowered by the rest of the sweet and sourness in the rest of the sauce. It’s your small little hole-in-the-wall Chinese place with your typical greasy Chinese food. and for the location… the prices were not that bad… Though you’ll definitely have to hit the slopes again to burn off all those calories. lol.

I love finding good solid chow at vacation destinations. China Express will serve you a healthy meal that you won’t regret for around ten bucks each. It’s a slightly rundown restaurant with a standard Chinese menu. The dinner plates were a mishmash of cheap Corelle from the seventies, paper place mats with the Chinese zodiac looked up from under the glass table tops — so you get the idea. There are about 100 paper lanterns with red tassels hanging everywhere. We had the mushu chicken, war won ton soup, and orange glaze chicken. We all loved each of the dishes. The mushu came pre-rolled — big fat ones loaded with fresh veggies. My daughter raved about the orange chicken. My favorite was the soup. The Unilocal map is wrong — it’s on the mountain side facing the main street in Kings Beach, in the last storefront of a strip mall. Not fancy — but a good $ 30 meal for three.
