Went in for soup. Got my cup and decided on chicken noodle. Child about 12 comes running up to HOT soup stand. She opens up each and every one. Then she stirs them all as she tiptoes up to look in them all. I don’t get the soup as I found this unsanitary. I check out let clerk know. She responds whats the big deal. I try to tell her that is unsanitary. She shrugs her shoulders. Where were the parents? Why did employees allow child to do this?

We were there November 16th for our weekly shopping, with the new extension and more space around the deli area we now have more room, will be nice if the vegetables and fruit area will increase towards the nursery and allow for more room to shop. However, at the check out, the cashier and the young lady who bagged our groceries were very busy talking about school and other«interesting» topics, ignored us and threw our groceries into the bags without paying any attention. The pickled beets we purchased at the buffet were thrown to the bottom of the paper bag and other heavy grocery on top, the beets went all over the place and when we got home and lifted this bag out of the car and broke at the bottom(wet from the beets and the beets juice) with everything on the garage floor. These two employees had no respect to clients or to their purchase. Our purchases pay their salaries! maybe someone should tell them that. Cashier #137, I changed the rating, the store manager sent us an email with an apology and willingness to pay for the car cleanup(car is fine, no need for a clean up). Quick response!!!

Love Adams. Fresh local fruit and veggies, expert fishmongers in the fish department, butchers will custom-cut anything you want, great selection of groceries hard to find elsewhere, real buttermilk, and the best black-and-white cookies north of New York City. Fast check-out. All staff so nice and helpful. If they don’t have it, they’ll probably get it for your next visit. Nothing not to like.

We love everything fresh at Adams. We buy our produce there. The fish is so fresh. They have great flowers. The bakery is(unfortunately) amazing! The staff is always incredibly nice. It is a great store for anything fresh.

I L.O.V.E. this supermarket. They have a lot of fresh, local, organic produce. I bought a HUGE artichoke there for only $ 1.99, and the farmer who had his peaches selling there was just standing by his fruit and offering samples of his fruit to customers so they would start buying his peaches over the other ones. Smart guy because it made me switch! I almost bought the cold, hard Georgia peaches. Glad I switched to a local farmer. Buy local, buy organic! They also have a huge garden center that blows Home Depot’s garden center out of the water. They also make their own smoked salmon and have a candy/chocolate section. If i weren’t on a time limit, I think I would’ve camped out there and still be shopping. Great place. I miss it already!

(Replying to a couple reviews below, the small, local Adams chain is much much better than Whole Foods, or Trader Joe’s – where almost everything is slightly old and wrapped in plastic, even the produce! The staff is wonderful. Know their departments and can actually offer educated help and advice. Yes, grocery items and staples, deli and fancy cheeses may be more expensive than Wal-mart or Shoprite, but on fresh fruit and vegetables, fresh and dry herbs, mushrooms and(high quality!) meats you can often do as well or better in cost. I have many times. The quality is(almost) always much better. Their fresh fish department is outstanding. Their house brand dairy items are excellent and in line price-wise. But I signed in to laud the fabulous garden center(s). Once I came in for several bushes with a couple of fruit trees I had already purchased elsewhere(as another garden center). The Nursery manager said the trees were not protected properly for the drive home and could be wind damaged, so he wrapped the trees from the other guys in their burlap, gratis. I will never forget that kindness. Even if you’re not in the market, just visiting the greenhouses in Spring is a sensual treat! I frequently visit both the Kingston and Newburgh stores. Both carry racks and racks of flower and vegetable seeds from many seed companies from Burpee to Ferry Morse to Seed Savers to Cook’s Garden and a Hudson Valley seed company. Best selection I’ve seen. Large selection of organic fertilizers. ALSO, they have an extensive selection of bedding plants in small cell packs and larger plants and baskets. Along with the extensive selection of trees and shrubs, roses, blueberry plants, etc. that are appropriate for our climate, all are in excellent condition. You cannot compare the offerings at the box stores to those from Adams in terms of quality, condition and region-appropriate varieties. It’s fine to get some stuff from the box stores, I do, but I would never put them in my greenhouse with the babies I started from seed! Not as worried about Adams, though any greenhouse can get whiteflies.

While vacationing up in Woodstock, we were turned onto the wonderful market by our host. We were looking for a place to buy nice groceries to cook nice dinner in the house. Our expectations were low having been to a few nearby markets. Driving up to Adam, we found ourselves in a the Woodstock version of Wholefoods. Lots of fresh produce, a bakery, a seafood area and a butcher. What a relief! No more canned foods and boxed mac and cheese for dinner! The place seemed frequented by locals so we knew this place was legit. Thanks for the great suggestion William! We had a healthy dinner because of your guidance! Paying it forward to any Unilocalers visiting the Woodstock area and wants to cook.

As a New York City girl, on vacation in a cute and small cabin, I decided to go on a trek of a lifetime and head to Adams Fairacre Farms.* I ran out the door of the cabin and leaped** into Boyfriend’s car. It was raining and heck naw is this NYC girl gunna stand in some nature-zone rain area.*** We drove for over half an hour. Insanity. How the heck is this place supposed to be considered close when its a half hour + drive? When we arrived I was so pleasantly surprised! The fruits and veggies selection was HUGE! wowzas! The selection did NOT consist of wilting, almost dead, flied have already laid claim on it produce. Rather it was fresh, clean and bountiful! A tad pricey, but what do you expect when we’re so far away from the city. The staff were all friendly and nice. However, the layout is a little confusing. Thats why we ended up chatting so much with the staff, as we needed help finding everything. Where is the dish soap detergent? In the garden aisle. Where is the maple syrup? In the produce section. Yeah, not that helpful. But at least for that half hour of being lost in the store, you can wander the aisles of fun! — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — — * trek of a lifetime, i may have been exaggerating just a bit, but the rest of the review is true as the sky is blue ** exaggeration? I think not! *** however, i am pretty sure the rain up here is cleaner than what drops in the city

What do you need? Adams probably has it. They’ve got all the produce you’re looking for, including apples, berries, lettuces, herbs, bok choy and bok choy babies.* They’ve got the soy milk you need to buy because evidently no one in your family drinks real milk any more, the sour cream you need because latkes are a Thanksgivvikuh must, and the apple cider you want because apple cider is always welcome. They’ve got a butcher’s counter for your meaty needs, a surprisingly stocked seafood section, plenty of cheese, ham, and other things you might want. They’ve got flowers, gift baskets and housewares for when you do something stupid and you need to make amends with your lady. They’ve even got Underberg, which my booze nerd of a brother insisted we buy in bulk. I still don’t know what it is really, but it’s good to drink after gorging yourself during the most American holiday there is. All of these things are well-laid out, fairly priced, and stocked by nice folks. You could do a lot worse for a grocery store, and pretty much everyone does. ____________ *I think that’s what they call it.

I’m in the area for a month and going through Whole Foods Market withdrawal. A friend recommended this place and I was pleasantly surprised. No matter what day of week you go it’s always busy, I can only imagine what the holidays are like! They have great local, organic, and non organic produce and fruit. Travel through the grocery area and you’ll find a well stocked cheese counter, fish dept, and bakery. Adjacent to the shop is a greenhouse and holiday shop. the employees know their products and are very helpful.

This is as good as grocery shopping gets; similar to a Whole Foods but smaller and you don’t give away your whole wallet; the produce is terrific, as are the meat and fish counters, cheese department, candy and nut areas, great dough for making homemade pizza, prepared foods and the best sour pickles in the universe in the refrigerated area. The only thing we don’t buy here are breads since we prefer Bread Alone’s varieties and from its own store, though its packaged breads are sold here, too. A great place to be inspired. Also extra perk: The plant department offers great trees, shrubs, flowers and more – I have grape vines from here which are thriving!

Love this place for grocery shopping. Great selection of fresh produce, local foods like honey, chocolates, cheese, bakery, gourmet foods. Plenty of interesting foods you don’t see in the usual grocery stores. One of the few places that consistently carries baby bok choy, often they have fresh oyster mushrooms as well. I always end up spending a lot more than I intended whenever I go here.

This Adams just keeps getting better and better, and I really need to get here more often. It’s been a while since I was last here, so some of the specialty areas and the hot food station were new to me. No two Adams stores are alike, and they’re all great. Compared to the one in Poughkeepsie I most often visit, I think the produce prices are often more competitive here. I was disappointed that I could not find grass-fed beef in the meat department here, something I buy often in the Poughkeepsie store. But overall they have a much more interesting variety of meats here, by comparison. That includes various types of bacons and sausages(yet another brand of duck sausage here to tempt me). Even more interesting were the frozen kobe beef patties and the Durham Ranch ground wild boar, ground rabbit, and ground … KANGAROO!!! Wow. Yeah, that about sums it up… wow!

I recently used Adams as the florist for my wedding. We were doing the centerpieces ourselves, so we ordered a ton of flowers in bulk and then Adams designed the bouquets, corsages and boutonnieres. I was so impressed with how helpful the floral staff was. Joanne guided me in the right direction, helping me make similar choices for flowers that I wanted but weren’t currently in season. The prices were so reasonable, and the flowers we received were fresh and exactly what I was looking for. I loved my bouquet so much I didn’t want to put it down! Would highly recommend to any bride looking for a reliable and helpful florist. Thank you so much for everything! It made the day all the more memorable!

If you’re looking for one of the best plant and garden centers in the area, dont be ashamed and come to this store. You’ll find most of your items here. From plants to vegetables to flowers to bird items to whatever you need that calls itself«home» outdoors, your more than likely to find it here. With two outside medium-sized greenhouses, they have a lot of plants to sell to you too.(they even have a chocolate and candy center here too, but not many people take advantage of this section of the store. Their employees are wonderful. They treat you like you are a human being, although they don’t know every customer by name. The lines tend tend to be a bit overwhelming at times, but with a little planning on your shopping times, there are some times when the lines die down and shopping becomes«fun» here once again. It will take some strategy to achieve this result though.

I probably could not live in this area without having Adams here. It is the closest you can get up here to a Trader Joes or Whole Foods(which I wish we had). Fresh veges, meats, etc. A good amount of organic. I guess the seafood counter is as good as you can get up here. Friendly staff and helpful. I think the flowers and the garden section is over priced. I wish there was a place for well priced flowers around here. But good selection, and I buy plenty of plants from the garden center. Good atmosphere, compared to Hannafords. I go there at least 2 – 3 times a week.

Great produce and meats. However everything else that isn’t fresh(meaning boxed stuff) is pretty high in price. My family loves buying fruit and veggies from here. They also have a flower section and a deli counter.

You can find wonderful natural, organic and/or local foods. The food is not oversized or unnatural. Fruits and veggies have good texture and fresh. Nice variety at the deli. Fresh baked breads and pastries. I is a great place to do grocery shopping or to stop if you forgot you lunch or are looking to grab food to take hiking or for a picnic. Not terribly expensive. They are always busy and keeping things running.

Adam’s is one of the local favorites of people who live nearby. It is a little more expensive than other local supermarkets(Hannaford’s, Wal-Mart(yech), Price Chopper, etc) and has fewer items. While the selection may be smaller, Adams will have more boutique/gourmet items vs the standard items in the other supermarkets. One big plus is that they seem to staff most of the checkout lines, so the wait is not too bad, unlike the other local supermarkets, where you can go in and see 47 checkout lines, but only 3 cashiers. What’s up with that!!! The bakery is good, and they appear to make most items on-site. I don’t much go to the garden center, but it seems good, and the one tie we went over there, they guy had good advice about growing vegetables in our garden. If you’ve got the money, I would recommend Adams over any other supermarket in the area. A 3.5 star establishment.
