Had dinner at Roudigan’s this week and it was SUCH a pleasant experience. The food was absolutely delicious, and our waitress was extremely pleasant, helpful, and nice, as were all the staff. My Seafood Platter entrée consisted of stuffed shrimp, crabcake, stuffed flounder, and scallops, with garlic mashed potatoes and gravy. The whole meal for two came out to be around 60 dollars, which is a great bargain anywhere! The atmosphere was very relaxing and inviting. And the Salad Bar with the Soup was terrific as well. We look forward to going again as soon as possible. When you go, I think you will enjoy it as much as we did!

Was a good spot for holiday fun. Not any more… They did away with the peel n eat shrimp… Long Island ice over priced and awfull. Sent back. Went for years. Would not recommend anymore. Not worth it. Bring back. The old food choices!!!

Husband and I decided to try this place for dinner and it is very outdated and a dark atmosphere. The salad bar was poorly stocked and the wait time for our food was very long. My steak was literally 85% fat and inedible, we will not be coming back.

Classic steakhouse. Reminds me of a time long forgotten. Great steaks cooked perfectly as ordered. Cheap for what you get. Huge portions. Good and friendly service. Sinatra playing in the background. I see why a lot of reviewers hate the atmosphere. It’s an old, classic, lodge-like steakhouse connected to a hotel. This is no Fridays, Chili’s, or some other manufactured ambience like the chain steakhouses Bugaboo Creek and Longhorn. This is an old school value steakhouse in every way… in a good way.

They have reopened and changed the décor and menu, popular items are still there, prime rib was excellent. Salad bar was fresh. The service is always exceptional, this time our server was Shae and she was very friendly, courteous and professional.

They have reopened, cleaned up the place, and reduced the size of the menu. Salad bar does not have shrimp anymore. The steaks were good.

The food was amazingly cooked. Mouth watering. If the atmosphere matched the foods intensity I would have offered 5 stars. I was very put off by the atmosphere. It felt like I was paying 5 star prices to eat in the local retirement center or VFW! There was no fancy dishes, flat wear, no linen table cloths, and the seating and tables looked like they were salvaged from the rainbow diner. It’s a crying shame that they don’t put some of the money from their overpriced dishes back into the upkeep and over all appearance! It’s shame that even thought the food was AMAZING it was such a poor atmosphere I will not return.

Good was pretty good. Our party of seven had burgers and salads everyone enjoyed their meal. The medium on the burgers was a bit rare, the toppings were all fresh. Service was awesome and the corn chowder is outstanding.

My boyfriend & I have been going to Roudigans for 4 years now and it is still one of our favorite places! I have rarely had any issues except the occasional server. I love the salad bar, although I think it would be even better with some variety once in awhile. The only reason I am not giving 5 stars is because in the 4 years we’ve been going the menu has not changed once, other than the specials. I think they could definitely use a menu update. I have eaten everything on the menu & now order the same things every time,(roudigans ribs or vegetable stir fry) not that it’s not absolutely delicious but It would be nice to try something new. Great atmosphere, usually very friendly people, and great food overall.

My first thought about this was why would roudigans have 2.5 stars? Before I lived in Kingston, I would stay at the Quality Inn, and continued to stay there FOR roudigans. It has been four years since my first visit, I have consistently had great meal after great meal, and nearly all items on the menu(the only item I would not suggest is the platter with the crab cake, sorry). My regular meal is the NY Strip lewis cut-medium well, mashed potatoes with gravy, sometimes with the Diane sauce unless they have the special for the strip with jack daniels. Before the meal, the salad bar is pretty good(stay away from the bread, its hard), many choices as well as shrimp cocktail as an option, or soup(the clam chowder is amazing). the only think I would suggest is they update their menu options, especially for chicken. everything else, keep it as it is.

We went here for breakfast because we were staying in the hotel next door. Service was awful, very under staffed, food arrived cold and the bacon had a strange spoiled taste. I would not suggest this place to anyone.

Stopped in right off the highway and the place is dated however the food was surprisingly very good. Had a delmonico steak that was excellent. Came with garlic mashed which was above average. Salad bar was ok. I would go thers again.

What happened to this place? It was the best steakhouse in the area. My steak was flavorless — tasted as is someone cooked it in a frying pan without seasoning. The salad dressing was watery and the dinner rolls were dried wooden shoes. The only good part was the service and the fact that they took the steak off the bill. No Ron Swansons for this place. If I could I would have given zero stars.

Stopped here after leaving NYC. Steak was decent but cold. Bread was the best part of the meal, which we had to request(and even then we were only served three for a group of four people).

I don’t know what is up with the dismal reviews for the place. I find this place GREAT! We motorcyclists frequent the Kingston/Catskills area for it’s outstanding roads and scenery for our rides. Roudigan’s is a welcome pitstop for us. Their steaks may not be the very best I’ve had but definitely above your chain restaurant. The salad bar is basic, not bad, nothing special. Their sandwiches are top notch! Well made and presented. Can’t go wrong there. Some people might knock the décor of the place that is definitely stuck in the 80s. Well that’s good and bad. Very nostalgic feel of my childhood, I don’t mind it. Best of all great service. Can’t fault them at all there. I’ll be back anytime I’m in Kingston.

I’d give this place 0 stars if I could. Crazy as it sounds it was rated extremely highly in Hudson Valley Magazine(clearly by someone who never actually ate there or who was simply paid off). The steaks were the worst we’ve ever experienced and the waiter kept pushing sauces on us – I guess they knew if you didn’t swamp the meat in some cover up you may actually pick up on the fact that the meat is awful. Don’t say I didn’t warn you. Do yourself a favor and drive another 10 mins west on Route 28 and go to the Skytop steakhouse — that spot is actually pretty good. *** after further reflection, if you have guests that you absolutely can’t stand and want them to leave: TAKETHEMTOROUDIGAN’S

Don’t go here during winter time if you hate being cold in a restaurant. It is a very old building and it is not insulated properly for keeping in the warmth during winter months! I took my wife there just last week(Feb. 2013) for dinner and I had to keep my coat on AND move to a table near a fireplace. Didn’t want to try sitting near the bar for some heat, only because it’s too NOISY with those who drink and suddenly need to talk loudly and carry on like idiots. The food at Roudigan’s is pretty good. I had their onion soup which was all right, but what I LOVED was their New England Clam Chowder. If you like this soup, I recommend you try theirs. They say it is homemade, and I liked it and would order that again. A salad bar is always a nice thing, but it really could use some broadening of toppings offered there. They bake rolls there and leave them at the salad bar with butter for you. The rolls are warm and soft and taste pretty good with the butter, actually. The steak is very tasty but my wife’s was not cooked to her liking, so make sure you like the way your steak is done. The waitresses are nice and helpful there, which is important. The prices are reasonable, but no champagne by the glass, sadly. I like it here once in a while, but I just could NOT stand the COLD temperature of that room and it made it difficult to enjoy dinner.(Yes, I did actually mention this to our waitress, but she explained that it’s just an old building, and it doesn’t heat well. She offered to seat us at the bar, but we opted not to eat dinner near the noisy drinking patrons). I would have rather gone home than to attempt eating my dinner among all the loud laughter and talking by the bar. Too bad that’s where the heat is! The prices are reasonable, for the most part. Like any place, if you aren’t happy with the service or food or whatever you are paying for: SPEAKUP. You are entitled to that much, so politely speak up if you need something or if you are not happy with something, and perhaps you can be accommodated. My advice is to avoid busy nights and be aware that winter months means sitting in a chilly room while you eat. Not freezing, and you won’t see your breath in the air, but it is uncomfortable for those of us who chill easily and it’s unpleasant.(If the owners should read this, PLEASE, for the love of all that’s holy, make some adjustments to properly set the temperature in there to accommodate all seasons!) This really is important if you want happy customers to return and buy more meals there, as well as to spread the word to others about where the best — or worst places to go are.

Okay… I’ve had a weekend house in Red Hook for almost thirty years and have driven by Roudigan’s hundreds of times and never went in. I was on my own on a business trip to Albany and decided to give it a shot. Hmmmm… First off, let me say that the ambiance leaves something to be desired. It is adjacent to the Quality Inn(the lobby opens into the restaurant) and it reeks of the mid-eighties. The worst part about it was the smell. It just smelled moldy. I almost turned around and left(mebbe I should have). The tables were not that clean… everything just felt a little seedy and dirty. The crowning touch was the black bucket(tray) right next to the salad bar with the constant dripping water going into it. Nice touch. A little more water and they could have called it a waterfall. Okay, the food. I ordered a mixed drink and that was fine. A healthy pour and not watered down. I went with steak(since it IS a steakhouse) and asked my server for her recommendation, knowing that I usually get a ribeye. She told me that they had a steak called the«Bonanza» described on the menu as a «luscious 16 oz. bone in Delmonico.» I ordered it with a baked potato on the side. I had the salad bar(comes with all meals) and it was okay(not minding the dripping water). Grape tomatoes, iceberg lettuce, shredded carrots, beets and a variety of mixed salads. None of the dressings were labelled so it was a good guess to see what they were. It was fine, but could have used some leaf lettuce and/or spinach. Oh, let me tell you about the«bread baked daily» that comes with every meal. The bread were white rolls in a plastic bag next to the salad bar. The bag was sweating so the rolls looked like they were fairly saturated with water. I could hear those little mold spores talking to each other in that plastic bag. Ugh. The steak arrived and lo and behold, it was pretty good. Cooked medium rare as ordered and fairly flavorful(I did need to salt it liberally). It was a big cut… should be at $ 23.95. I ate it all… potato was okay. I didn’t order dessert or coffee(I think i just wanted to get the hell out of there) and it was just me, so I cannot tell you how the rest of the menu is. I got there a little after 8pm on a weeknight so the place was fairly deserted. Definitely an older crowd… I was the youngest by at least ten years among the ten patrons… and I am in my mid-fifties. Service was reasonably attentive… though it was a bit distracting when the entire staff started closing the place up a little before 9pm. The waitress(Sandy) said that they had been quite busy… had a graduation party there that evening. You coulda fooled me. To summarize… Roudigan’s is the kind of the place your parents used to go to. There are movie posters and memorabilia all over the walls. Steaks seem to be good, but the ambiance sucks. And that smell… I guess I should gone in 1984 when I bought my house… everything was new then. I am definitely NOT taking my family there… Ruby Tuesday has a better salad bar, comparable steak and much better ambiance(it smells like a restaurant). Be warned.

We went to Roudigan’s for a birthday party last Saturday. We were so pleasantly surprised by the prices. Aged steaks for $ 17.99. Food was excellent and the salad bar had hot rolls. We loved the place. The atmospher is old and not fancy but we’d definitely go back again! We had a hard working waitress! I’ve been recommending it all week to people at work!

Went to Roudigan’s with a group of friends for dinner while in Kingston for a few days. We decided to go after one of my friends was told how good it had recently been … we were lied to. The first negative was the service, both the hostess and our waitress seemed pre-occupied and it was a struggle just getting our drink order. Going to a steakhouse( Unilocal lists the name as Roudigan’s Restaurant, they call themselves Roudigan’s Steakhouse) it was a given I was getting steak. I ordered the NY Strip, Medium and decided to give the salad bar a shot. My wife went with the Grilled Chicken Caesar Salad. My shot missed, the salad bar was a big let down. You’ll find a better selection and fresher items at any Ruby Tuesday. Next our entrees came out, if the salad bar was a let down the main course was a total failure. The doneness of my steak can’t even be described as Well, Charcoal is more appropriate. My wife’s Grilled Chicken was a perfect Medium Rare, which would’ve been fine for my steak, not so much for poultry. Considering the cook laid the slices on top of the salad he had to see the raw chicken and just decide he didn’t care. The rest of my friends entrees ranged from underwhelming to downright awful. When the waitress stopped back to see how we were doing, we expressed our displeasure and were met with a vacant stare. No response, nothing. Finally after a few moments she just walked away. When she returned 20 minutes later we asked for the check, which was way too expensive for the garbage we received and left. If you’re in Kingston and looking for somewhere to eat, skip Roudigan’s. If you want a steak go to one of the chain restaurants by the mall, it’s only a couple miles North on 209. Or just eat at home, I’m sure you can do a better job grilling a steak.
