Olvera Street Taqueria

I was so excited to find this place. As a recent transplant from Texas, I missed taquerias and have been disappointed with much of the Mexican food I’ve found in eastern North Carolina. The tacos are delicious and made with fresh ingredients. So happy to find a place with excellent tacos, beer, and tables to sit outside. That is pretty much the definition of my happy weekend.
I will definitely make the 30-​minute drive to Kinston just for these tacos — they are worth it!

The food is AWESOME! The service is EXCELLENT! I would recommend this place to everyone, far and wide!
Just had Olvera Street again and the food was totally SATISFYING AND DELICIOUS! The owner came out and spoke with us giving us an opportunity to thank him in person for a TRULY WONDERFUL dining experience!!! Please, go eat at Olvera! It will be the last time you have to think about where to eat out for lunch or dinner!!!

Only one word to describe the food: AMAZING! Fresh, delicious, well worth coming here. Atmosphere is young and hip. Staff very friendly. Food out in timely manner at lunch time. Very relaxing. Highly recommend!

Fish tacos were great, blackened Mahi Mahi was a real winner and combined with a side of beans & rice created a meal well worth driving downtown to find this really cool place. Treated very well, offered some extra sauce for the rice & beans, absolutely love the music and ambiance. 5 stars, wish we lived in the area, we would be regulars!!!

Very pleased with the choice of this place for a quick lunch. Typically a taqueria doesn’t hold that much appeal… being from central Texas where we have one on every corner. This one was more akin to the upscale Southern Cal taquerias with a selection of sauces that perfectly complemented the mahi mahi tacos we selected. Try this for yourself if in the area.

California style Mexican food — excellent! At first I wasn’t sure I wanted to eat here; from the street it looked like a fast-​food restaurant. You have to place your order at a cash register but the food is anything but fast-​food.
I ordered the 2 taco combo that includes chips & salsa and a drink. You can choose from a corn or flour tortilla; meat choices include carna asada, pork, chicken chorizo or you could order it vegetarian; then you choose your toppings. I ordered the soft corn tortilla with carne asada. Before I bit into these tacos my favorite taco had to have a hard shell & ground beef. I have a new favourite now!
Woody ordered the enchiladas. You can order 2 8″ flour tortillas with your choice of meat and cheese. He ordered chicken and carna asada. They put the house-​made enchilada Verde sauce-​wonderful! -& top it off with more cheese. In my opinion, the chicken enchilada was bland but Woody loved it. The beef enchilada was very tasty. I’m not partial to enchiladas but I’m planning on ordering that the next time.
The owners are from LA & are quite hospitable. Both of them came over to our table to ask how we liked our meal.
Overall it was good food for a reasonable price! Go… you won’t regret it!

Try. This. Place!!! It is soooo good and not like anything else around. The chorizo enchilada is to die for!!!

Cool environment and great food. Easy walk from Mother Earth brewery. So come get a taco

The food is good and fresh. The atmosphere is good. BUT if you are looking for a non meat place. This is not it. We got a veggie burrito. Which is rice and beans. And that is fine except the meat burritos also have rice and beans in them but we paid the same price 9.00. They do not have any other vegetarian options. So you are buying a 9.00 meat burrito with no meat. IT’S A RIP OFF. The price needs to be a little less since you are not getting meat in it.
With that being said… The food is really good very fresh tasting. They offer fish tacos, street corn, chips and salsa, burritos, variety of sodas and alcohol (no liquor though).
oh. when i mentioned to the lady at the register that they should serve a vegetarian option because we felt ripped off… she really didn’t care. Plus she was on her phone a lot. Just cant find good customer service anymore.

A nice clean atmosphere with outdoor dining available as well. I had fish tacos and they were very good. I suggest the green sauce with anything, it tasted very fresh with a little kick. A bit expensive, but worth it for good tacos in downtown Kinston.
