So far I am really enjoying this place. The room is huge! Bathroom is really good sized as well! The wall paper is a bit dingy, and the furniture is well used. Mattress is brand new and pretty sure the carpet is also new. It’s not stained and dirty like posts have said. I like the separate little sitting area. A coffee table would be nice there though. And I personally like to watch TV in bed and the set up makes that nearly impossible, unless you lay with your head at the foot of the bed. I think the place has potential to be a nice little hotel once the renovations are complete. Very nice lobby man. The hotel is VERY quiet but there is a full parking lot so I know there are other people here so it’s well insulated. There is suppost to be a lake here somewhere? I still have not seen a lake. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ This is night one of three for me. So I’ll post updates if there are any.

Interesting hotel. The Carlton inn was clearly built in anticipation of a thriving business community complete with restaurant, bar, gym, pool and huge communal areas. Unfortunately, efforts to maintain the hotel seemed to have been abandoned long ago(80’s?). All the amenities were shut down and our room was severely worn. Holes in the carpets and sheets. Cracks in the wallpaper. Broken alarm clock, lights and hair dryer. Discolored, threadbare towels. Unmarked speed bumps. All of which we were prepared for having read other reviews. We were unprepared for the… tart…smell of our room. It made staying at the Carlton pretty unpleasant and colored our entire experience of Kirkland. The Carlton is located behind Kirkland’s «Yuppie Pawn» in an area some locals referred to as the«Armpit of Kirkland». Overall, if you’re into weird hotels and can get a room that doesn’t smell, I recommend the Carlton experience. Unless you need wheelchair access. Strangely, all the handicapped parking spaces seemed to be located at the bottom of a sloping parking lot next to doors which have been permanently locked. The only way up the hill is to either walk up a flight of stairs or go up the steep road.

I agree with one if the other posters that they need to start updating quickly before they completely lose all hope if booking guests. My husband were driving to Seattle from Vancouver to catch our flight back to St. Louis. It was 2 am and we were very tired. Everywhere within 50 miles of Seattle was completely booked… except this place. We took what we could get. For $ 109 the only good things we got was a place to lay our heads for the night and great water pressure(which is really what we needed and we were appreciative of that). However, we also got a time portal back to the late 80s complete with a pink tile, wall papered bathroom, a tube TV with a broken remote, and a corded push button phone. Not to mention the thread bare sheets, stained duvet, and moldy ceiling. Yikes.

I had learned upon our departure that we were given a room deemed, «out of service.» we appreciate Mary Anne’s explanation and her quick response to reimburse our payment, a full refund. We did preview a good room; nicer furnishings and an attempt to cover blemishes. Bed is still old and needs upgrade. Suggest they begin by investing in a complete restoration of one wing at a time, regain customers with a promotion for business class, and then regain consumer confidence. Good luck to Mary Anne. She is the best thing going for this establishment.

Well… it’s cheap, it’s got that going for it. Other than that there’s not much to recommend the place. It’s older, a little worn out and run down, and the rooms smell like smoke even though it’s supposed to be a non-smoking hotel. They must have just converted over to non-smoking, or more likely they just haven’t painted since the Nixon administration. For a good laugh be sure to check out the mighty fountain at the bottom of the stairs. It’s like a Las Vegas attraction, very impressive. Seriously. Not really. They also have this weird policy where after a certain time they lock all the doors and you have to ring the night bell and have someone come open the doors if you want back in. Too cheap to install a card reader on the door(and the guest rooms for that matter) I guess. It’s not terrible and it’s in a decent area, but luxury it isn’t.
