Juanita Bay Park

Turtles, ducks, birds and worms all over~
Kids even like to scooter inside it~
Will go there again~

Great walking park with boardwalks out onto the lake and lovely views. It is very serene particularly in the early morning. It is small though.

This is a pretty nice park, with paved walking paths, several boardwalks out onto the lake, and a long causeway that leads to…98^th Ave? But I think you could easily walk to Juanita Beach Park to extend your distance. This park is better for some low key outdoors time than it is for a good walking or running workout. There are lots of grassy areas that would be great for a picnic. The thing that I got the most excited about was that I saw what I thought was a fox, but later decided was probably a coyote. In the middle of the city! It’s great that this is a sort of wildlife habitat exists in such a huge metro area. Great place to enjoy some sun, view the lake, and maybe spy some wildlife.

The earlier review I had written was based on my trip in the summer. I went again today and it was AMAZING. There were so many wintering ducks, a pair of trumpeter swans, wilson’s snipes, sandpipers, bald eagles hunting and all the usual stuff too. A fabulous place to bird in the winter, I can’t wait to go back.

It has been years since I have gone to Juanita Bay Park, but decided to spend some time taking pictures yesterday. The park has a beautiful grass area and three different trails for observing wildlife. Go slow, while you look at everything. In my visit I saw blue herron, a red tail hawk, red wing blackbirds, humming birds, and turtles amoung other things. This is a photographers paradise! Give yourself a few hours to enjoy the park and pack a picnic lunch to have while you are there.

Don’t confuse Juanita Bay Park with nearby Juanita Beach Park like I did once until I knew the difference. Juanita Bay is a park, wheareas Juanita Beach is exactly that. These parks are across the water from each other. And seemingly connected by a boardwalk, though I haven’t used it yet.
Juanita Bay Park kind of reminds me of Volunteer Park on Capitol Hill a little since it has a very peaceful vibe to it and is next to a residential area. There are a couple of walking paths here. I saw some benches and picnic tables as well. Though the draw for me are the walkways to get a view of Juanita Bay.
Supposedly the location of the park is in a wildlife area, but I didn’t encounter any animal life here. Though I noticed a lot of their remnants of the fecal variety here. Even on the walking trails, so beware. I would avoid the grass as well. I couldn’t tell whether it was dirt or excrement. Nor did I want to find out. I saw a sign that they were doing a habitat restoration, but I guess that doesn’t mean this.
I think Juanita Bay Park is a good park if you are looking for a peaceful nature spot. Though I have to say that I am more of a beach person more than a park one, so the park across the water has more appeal for me.

What an absolutely amazing park!!! Juanita Bay Park is big, wide open and one of my favorite places to come and walk. There are benches located in various locations throughout the park, so you can sit, relax and enjoy the beautiful views. Defiantly a great place to bring the family or a loved one and have a picnic on a warm sunny day. Also a great place to bring your dog to play and walk.
On my last visit here I brought my camera to take some scenic pics. I ventured out to the wooden pathways, which lead out to Lake Washington, and I never knew there were so many turtles in the Lake. There were probably close to 100 of them sitting on logs soaking up some sun. It was a great sight to see. If you really like to bird watch, this is a great place to come. Out on the pathways near the lake you can see all sorts of birds and ducks. If you are lucky, you might even see some Bald Eagles or Ospreys.
The main parking lot is pretty small and fills rather quickly on nice days. I do believe there is another parking lot across the street near the fire station, but I’m not to sure how big it is.

I can definitely see this park getting rather crowded in nice weather! We decided to take our little one out on an adventure one weekend and this is the spot we picked. It wasn’t raining, but it was windy which a 4 month old did not enjoy much. However, if it wasn’t really windy (or if my little girl didn’t get angry at the wind!) walking out on the water and around the park would have been just lovely! It really was gorgeous there despite the weather not being perfectly sunny. There is a nice park for children to play as well as paths for people to go on a leisurely stroll. It’s a nice escape from the hustle and bustle of the nearby shops and worth the little bit of legwork to walk across the street to enjoy some nature! :)

Beware of car thieves in the parking lot across from the fire station. It’s a hot spot for car break-​ins. Such a shame. It’s a nice park.

This is a nice park to go for a walk, walk your dog, or take some pictures of nature. It’s a pretty good size so you can walk around and see some animals and birds.
However, it can get a little boring for kids since there is no playground.
But there are some grassy areas to throw a frisbee or football around.
The parking lot is way too small for the size of this park so you may have to park across the street in the residential area and walk over.

LOVE this area/​park so much. It is easily overlooked just how much there is to enjoy and see here for those who rush through or just drive by.
Turtles, ducks, herons,.as the wetland has been maintained well and allowed to thrive, the wildlife here has well. This park and it’s sister Juanita beach make the Audubon Society’s top bird-​watching spots year after year.
It’s a nice break away from traffic to jog/​walk the boardwalk, and it’s easy to get to dinner, coffee, Juanita Beach as well.
New historic and interpretive signs are set to be updated from the first renovation and the final set early 2013, so points of interest and education will stay a big piece of what this park/​bay have to offer.

This park is a nice little gem on Juanita Bay. I like it much better than the nearby Juanita Beach Park because the walking paths are nicer and longer. There’s a long, flat bridge and two shorter boardwalks that all have great views of the bay and wetlands. Bring your binoculars and you’ll see plenty of birds. Good place to take a walk with your children or pets. I like to use this as the beginning of my long runs and then head south along the waterfront. Only downside is that the parking lot isn’t extremely large. There are usually enough people coming and going that there are spots available, but it’s often close to being full.
EDIT: Be aware that thieves frequent this parking lot. There are signs that say it, but I didn’t take them seriously until I came across a woman who had her window smashed and phone stolen. Don’t leave valuables visible, and don’t put them in your trunk while you’re in the lot!

Sun or shine, this wetland preserve is great for nature-​watching and taking photos without being too far from civilization.
My fiancé and I have gotten some great pictures here, including ones of a beaver munching on lilypads. Herons are often in amongst the reeds, and turtles sun themselves in rows along logs.
You never know what you might see — my only complaint is that the park isn’t larger!

Very pretty but SUPER cold. I went running here since it was down the street from my partner’s family where we were staying. The view was really nice and its pretty good for runners. Right amount of hills and flat portions and running across the bridge was awesome.
Great place to take your kids or walk the dog.

I’m so glad the wetlands preserve is being well maintained, and they’re working to inhibit/​remove what they called «invasive plants» and replace some of the natural habitat and plants. I think, in so many words, that means they’re tearing out blackberries. Which kind of also means, they’re removing hobo hiding places. And that can only mean less trash in this delicate area.
Unfortunately, humans suck and throw trash into the water and wetlands. I saw a traffic cone, mylar balloon, the usual beer cans/​bottles, in the water. It’s not a «trashy» by any stretch, don’t get me wrong, but it’s really sad and frustrating to see litter next to a sunbathing turtle.
The turtles and ducks are always fun to watch and sometimes you can catch a heron.

Its a very nice neighborhood park. I love to go there during late Spring/​early Summer or an hour or two before sunset to watch wild life. You may see a turtle sunbathing on the drift wood, beaver swimming in the lake, blue heron perched on the wood. Bring a binocular and your eyes open, you never know what you will see.
