I had what is known as virgin hair — no color whatsoever. Very healthy and thick hair. It was down to my waist and I wanted a trim. I decided to go here because I thought how badly can someone mess up a trim? I went in and asked for a cut but «not too short». I got up from the chair with a mullet! It’s like I have a bowl cut all around and a mullet in the back. The top part of my hair in the back and front is really short and the inside part of my back hair is longer coming right at my collar bone. It’s so hard to style it and now I have it clipped up all the time. Had I known she would cut it so short and so haphazardly I wouldn’t have gone there. As Demi said, not for long haired people who don’t want too much cut off.

Have you ever had one of those haircuts that were so bad you just cried every time you saw yourself in the mirror? That is what I got from this place today. I almost left before she even started cutting and God how I wish I would have followed my instincts. When I pulled my hair out of a bun she practically looked at it with disgust. My hair was really long. There is only one person I trust with my hair but I’m from out of state so I finally broke down and had to cut it because it has been six months. But usually people love my hair because it’s so long and I have loose natural curls. Especially people who deal with hair for a living! Not her! She just kept looking at it and struggling with how to clip it because it was obviously longer than she was used to. She cut a lot off, but I understand my ends needed serious help. But I wanted symmetry. I reiterated it several times, showed her, used hand motions, really drilled it in. By the end she had given me side bangs. That were to short to even pin back. They were lop-​sided. The front of my hair is longer than the back. The first thing I said is I want it all one length and symmetrical. I can’t tell you how many times it was repeated. And when I got home and straightened my bangs the were in even too thick, and too short. It’s just bad. So bad. It makes me cry every time I see it. She may be good if you have perfectly straight hair and you want a short haircut. But if you want a long hair style, or your hair has any body to it, DO NOT Make the same mistake I did.
Update: after I went back and said I truly hated it she gave me my money back without a word. She was nice enough about it. But I still wouldn’t recommend to anybody with long hair.

I went to K&J for the first time because of the good reviews on Unilocal.Kai did a great job. She listened to what I wanted and did it right. We travel a lot and I need to try new salons. This one was really nice. It’s a relief to get a cut and style that you like when you travel.

I just love Kai! The first time she cut my hair I was ecstatic and she is the only stylist I’ve visited a second time. Now she’s the only stylist I see. She did my cut and color for my wedding and did my eyebrows free as a present. Super sweet and great prices!

Kai is good with what she does. Visited the first time for a cut and was happy with the results. Went back a month later, but this time to get my hair colored as well. Her work continues to satisfy me! :)

I went in tonight to donate my hair for the first time. Kai was so sweet and made me laugh about it and feel comfortable instead of the panic attack tears I expected. My cut is amazing and she even styled it a few ways for me to show me my new options.

I recently moved to the greater Seattle area, and I have been biding my time to find a hair salon. My hair had grown out and was in the shaggy stage, and I started getting desperate. I looked for a salon on Unilocal that was local and had good reviews — but most importantly, I wanted a stylist who wouldn’t be afraid of going really short. For some reason, whenever I tell stylists how short I want my hair in the back, they are often reluctant and leave it longer than I like it. I saw a review that stated Kai of K&J Salon is not afraid to cut hair super short, so I booked an appointment.
The salon is clean and easy to find off Juanita-​Woodinville Road in a strip mall. Kai is a very friendly and talented stylist, and she immediately knew how I wanted my hair cut when I began explaining. She did a great job, and I love that she was quick and obviously knew what she was doing. But best of all, the price is great for a shampoo, cut and blow dry. I’ll definitely be back!

I was really happy with my haircut from Kai. I have short hair and always have issues with people not going short enough, or having weird long pieces if I part it slightly differently. Kai was very thorough and did a great job, and she didn’t make me feel bad when I said I wanted it shorter after she had done a lot of work already! I’ll be coming back for sure.

Outstanding find. I set an appointment with Kai for a haircut and color, and I could not have been more impressed. Kai did a fantastic job, taking her time to make sure the cut and color would look good with my face shape, skin color and was exactly what I wanted.
I would (and have) paid double for a lot less quality. This place is a gem.

I walked in today at 2pm, and was in the chair immediately. Kai did my hair, and she was awesome. I hadn’t cut my hair in over two years, and she did a great job thinning and layering it, and convinced me to go with some face-​framing layers I might not have asked for on my own, but am now very grateful for! I would definitely go here again and recommend it to anyone else.
For shampoo, cut, and style, mine came out to $ 45… very reasonable for a haircut this good!

I cut my own hair for years, or made my (at the time) husband do it. I grew up hating my full, wavy, tries to be curly hair.
Then I grew up, realized I could make it do what I wanted it to, and so I needed someone to do my hair, too. I wanted *fancy* stuffs.
I have a lot of FemYelpers who have seriously awesome hair. I love their hair cuts.

Then I found this fantastic gem, 3 blocks from my house!
The most I’ve ever paid for a full haircut and style is $ 30. For my regular trims or a basic cut, it’s $ 20. Yes, I said $ 20.
The best part, is the owner (the K) LISTENED TO ME when i told her what I wanted and about my hair from minute one, the first visit, and … for the first time in my life, and I mean EVER. from beauty schools to cheapo cuts to $ 75 hair cuts to my own … I got exactly what I asked for, and looked GREAT.
She remembered me, what I like, makes suggestions and gets approval before doing *anything* different than what I ask for, and chastises me if I go too long without a visit.
I found the best of both worlds: hair I love *and* that I have zero guilt about paying for
