I have been here on many occasions with family and friends and have always had a good experience. Service is good(family owned), unique atmosphere, and the food is always great! Not quite what you would find in a larger city, but very tasty! Be sure to make a reservation on the weekends, as it is a popular choice.

We love sushi and we love the quality and service. The salmon is always top quality and fresh and usually one roll is plenty to eat! The restaurant is small and intimate so I would recommend you call and make a reservation.

I really don’t think they want people to eat there. We showed up at 1:15 on a Saturday and saw that they closed at 1:30. The hostess told us that actually they were closed and said they’d open up again at about 5:15. She asked if we wanted to make reservations for 5:15. Well the two of us were in town for some ‘city’ shopping(we live in the country an hour away from Kirksville) and we were looking forward to having a treat of sushi. So no we were not going to wait 4 hours in town just to be treated like crap again and spend $ at your restaurant. I just think that if you’re running a restaurant then the goal should be to get customers in the door and to have a good experience. I understand that they can set their own hours — but at least try to be welcoming.

Well, this was a strange experience! Was in town for a show and wanted to grab some dinner before the show! When we arrived the place was nearly empty and there were 5 gals waiting for a table? Because they did not have a reservation? It was 5pm? Anyway after ten minutes they finally sat them, but not till they said you guys need to be out of here by 6pm! Who would say that? Oh well. Then it was time for them to say that to the 2 of us, they said, can you guys be out of here by 6pm and we said, ahhh Yes? And they said ok we can seat you then. Even though the place was empty! Very Strange! The food was pretty good, we both ordered the vegan noodle soup with veggies and tofu! We like spice, and we asked for some hot sauce and they said well that will cost you a dollar extra. so we were already kinda having a bad experience so we did without, drank our beer and left before 6pm. At no time was the host very nice to us. But a guy cooking in the back with a beard was super nice as was the gal filling our waters! Oh well, maybe it was just not her night. But I reccamend getting a reservation, not because the place will be full but because it will make the host treat you better.

Wow! I have eaten here a few times before but this is my 1st time getting a bento box. What flavor is that Teriyaki supposto be? It was runny and horrible! Nothing like a bento box I have ever had. They smother their rolls with a brown and orange sauce and tonight when I ordered it without the sauce I found out why. The fish was foul enough that I couldn’t stomach it and honestly I am hoping I don’t get sick. On top of it all, the server never refilled my drink or checked up on me, it was apparent that the conversation that she was having with the other employees was more important than providing good service to the customers! Never again! Nuhrachi is the only place to get quality sushi in Kirksville so if that’s what you want then that is the place to go, just wish they had bento boxes… :(

Best sushi in northern Missouri. Large selection. Cost per roll might be more than you are used to but they are big. Their bento options are good for people that don’t like sushi and/or are on a budget. Owners are friendly and has a polished feel on the inside. Nice ambiance.

The sushi here is surprisingly good considering location. It was pretty tasty, fresh, and the portions are large. It’s pretty dark inside, though nicely decorated. I would not recommend anything that isn’t sushi, though. My husband had chicken tempura; the dish was promising, with good sticky rice, crispy tempura batter, and good portion size, but the chicken was awful. I don’t even think it was chicken. It honestly seemed like it was processed white meat product(comparable to the meat in a chicken nugget). For what you get, the price is ridiculous. I would go back, but only to satisfy a sushi craving.

Good sushi, but the rest of their menu is mediocre. When you go to a restaurant, you expect good service, nice ambiance, and great food. Their service is inconsistent, the servers are nice and so is the male owner but the female owner isn’t very friendly towards customers and tends to yell at her waitresses in front of customers. The ambiance is horrible, it is so dark in there it’s as if they wanted to save all their money on lighting. Their teriyaki bowls aren’t worth the price, even when it is $ 4 a bowl. There are probably 5 pieces of meat, stir fried veggies and soggy rice. My advice is to take the sushi to go and forget the rest of their menu. I recommend the A. T still roll, tiger roll, whitney roll and the vegas roll.

One of the best restaurants in town, Bonzai is run by a great young couple who have put together a nice, classy spot in downtown Kirksville. I hope they stay here for years to come. Oh, and the sushi is quite good. Peter, the owner, has an enthusiasm for food — he’s always innovating and working to bring new exciting entrees to his restaurant.

Excellent food! I lived in Japan for a year and was pretty impressed by the quality of food though I was a little disappointed in the fact that their gyoza was deep fat fried instead of pan fried and my tonkatsu was pretty thin. On the other hand, the restaurant hasn’t been there long so I am sure they are trying to be a bit thrifty on the spending until they are better established. Décor could be a little lighter, but overall, I found the food to be excellent and the staff very attentive.

The staff is really friendly and accommodating although when it’s busy, they tend to neglect you. For Kirksville, the sushi is actually really great. I wish they had more variety in fresh fish, but what can you expect? When I ate there, they had just recently opened and their décor had not been fully established. The business was very dark, but pretty classy. I gave them(a weak) four stars because they’re a step up from the old sushi place that used to be here, and actually fairly affordable. If they had a better sashimi platter(or for that matter, didn’t cut their fish paper thin), I probably would have given them a strong four and maybe even five star rating.
