Luxottica: stripper’s name or largest eyewear company in the world? Possibly both, but if you went with«eyewear company,» you’re definitely right. If you wear glasses or sunglasses, odds are Luxottica made them. «But I have Ray-Bans,» you say. Yep, those actually are Luxottica. They also make eyewear under license for brands like Prada, Burberry, Dolce & Gabbana, and Chanel. Luxottica even has its own retail locations, and Target Optical is one of them. I’ve never had an eye exam here, but Target has become my go-to place for frames. Here’s why: 1. Plastic frames I don’t look good in metal frames, and I can’t stand the way nose pads feel on my nose. I only wear plastic frames. I wear the kind of thick plastic frames that scream, «Hey, look! I have glasses on my face!» Target has some metal frames, but on my past several visits, they have had plenty of plastic frames from which to choose. This hasn’t been the case at many of the other places I have visited in my frame searches. If you are interested in brands, even though many are technically all one brand, you can check out the Luxottica website for ideas on what Target might carry. On my last visit, they had brands like Coach, Oakley, Ray-Ban, and DKNY. They also had Betsey Johnson and Target brands like Mossimo and Xhilaration. I don’t think those three are made by Luxottica, but I could be wrong. 2. Really friendly people I guess it depends on who is working when you visit, but the employees here have been incredibly nice. I like to browse on my own, but they are more than willing to assist you. On one of my visits, a woman claimed she didn’t look good in glasses, and one of the employees said it was just because she hadn’t found the right pair. Maybe he was just being a salesman, but that’s actually true. I love wearing glasses, but there are many, many styles that I just cannot wear. 3. Decent turnaround time I’m sure there are other places that can get your glasses to you more quickly than Target can. I think LensCrafters(another Luxottica store) can make at least some glasses in one day. On my previous purchases, Target has given me an estimated two-week wait for my glasses. Two of three pairs actually came in early. You shouldn’t expect your glasses to be ready early, but don’t be completely bummed out by the wait time. — For what it’s worth, I’ve made purchases at Target Optical in both Kirkwood and Fenton. I’ve had great experiences at both locations!
