The Animation Gallery is located inside Magic of Disney Animation which is in Animation Courtyard at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The Animation Gallery is made up of two different parts. The first is a gift shop where they have some pretty reasonable sketches of various Disney Characters and then they have beautiful Disney paintings that sell for thousands. Even though I can’t afford those, they are still lovely to look at. You’ll also find some things in here like sketch books, learn how to draw Disney Character books, etc. The second part of The Animation Gallery holds original backgrounds and cells from classic Disney movies. These are really cool to see. There’s also a case holding Oscars which Disney has won for various movies. This isn’t somewhere you’ll spend a lot of time, but it’s neat to walk through. It’s also nice to get out of the heat and into the a/c for a bit.

If you’re a Disney fan, and you probably are if you are here this is a must visit every time you visit. It’s an art gallery but usually there is an actual Disney animator there drawing. They are amazing! Now you probably don’t know this because there is rarely a long wait, but right around the corner is a little location called the Animation Academy. Definitely wait for this as long as your children are older than maybe 5. It’s an animation class and the instructors are great! You’ll be taught how to draw one character and last time we were there the instructor allowed us to choose who the class would draw. Step by step and we drew Dopey. Take my advice and do it.

Located in Disney’s Hollywood Studios amusement park, you may purchase giclee art via the kiosks, or some of the Thomas Kinkade art on the walls. If you are in the $ 20-$ 45 range, there are quite a few pencil character drawings by official Disney animators, however the majority of art here is in the hundreds to thousands of dollars. If you miss your opportunity here, the same products are for sale in the Art of Disney store found in Downtown Disney, or the branch in Epcot’s Future World. The staff here are friendly and knowledgeable. They also have cast members here that have disabilities, so they are an equal opportunity employer, which rings true to my heart.

Amazing! Love the walk through of sketches of some of the favorite stories I and many others have come to love. Seeing landscapes, castles, and designs gives much more appreciation to the creative process of making films.
