Vida Verde

OMG Kittery Maine is alive and ready for FOODIES!!! WE HAVE A FOOD TRUCK AND IT IS AWESOME!!! So, 3 days in a row I have returned to Vida Verde for their fish tacos which topped with homemade local beet relish cannot be beat. But, yesterday, I ordered a special, a whole red fish, marinated and served with local patty pan squash fajita style. Sauted onions and lemons, squeeze of lime, topped with EDIBLE FLOWERS! My son had seitan «chorizo» tacos topped with quac, sauted veggies and edible flowers AGAIN — little violet ones! Fresh hand made strawberry grapefruit soda, oh my! Have I used the word fresh and local enough? Go! See for yourself and tell Dan and Lee Jody sent you.

I have been wanting to try Vida Verde since they opened but haven’t found the time. My wife and I are always on the lookout for something Mexican and I don’t think we need to look any further! We each ordered a steak and chicken taco. She had the spicy I went with the mild. Lee, one of the founders, ensured that the spicy option was not overwhelming but had just the right amount of heat. We also ordered a cheese and Peruvian bean quesadilla for my daughter. The other founder, Dave, cooked our food and also delivered it to us while we waited at a picnic table. The tacos tasted extremely fresh and were served with pickled and spicy carrots and onions. Although I don’t typically enjoy those flavors, I found myself adding them to my tacos and enjoying every bite. After eating both tacos I decided to try a fish taco as well and that was just as good. The slaw it was served with was lightly dressed and contained diced beets, which I had never seen before. The fish was perfectly fried and delicate. In addition, my 15-​month old daughter could not get enough of the quesadilla! The service was friendly and Dave even went so far as to bring us out a housemade cream soda consisting of seltzer infused with maple and fresh vanilla. It was delicious and a nice gesture to boot. Reasonable prices, friendly service, and delicious fresh and local ingredients. We can’t wait to go back!
