First impression, the building is rotting away. Almost left. Interior is old but adequate, intimate booths in the back. It looked clean. The food is tasty. Portions are good. For the price I would have expected egg roll and soup with our meals. I had General Tso’s chicken and my wife had shrimp foo young. Both were good. Service was ok. I know of a couple of Chinese restaurants where the food and prices are better but Plum Tree is good.

On the outside this place looks run down but the food is definitely worth the stop. I had the General Tso’s chicken and my girlfriend had that Phở, we also had an order of crab Rangoon to split. The food was fresh and hot and did not take very long to arrive at our table. The chicken was some the most perfectly fried Chinese chicken I’ve ever had. The Phở was a huge bowl that two people could easily share. All of this with two waters came to about $ 30. All in all I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Great lunch prices. Beef and broccoli with white or fried rice and choice of soup or spring roll for $ 6. Hit or miss food. We’ll order the same thing and it’ll taste different than it did the last time we ordered it.): Edit: I’m bringing it up one star because I ordered a whole fried fish on a whim and it was one of the coolest things I’ve ever gotten at a Chinese restaurant *_*

Went here with maybe too high an expectation considering the reviews. Would not come here again because the food was not very tasty. Staff provided great and friendly service! But the food was mediocre.

I had been searching for a quality, non-chain Chinese restaurant in Knoxville and finally found it at Plum Tree. The words«hole in the wall» aren’t usually a compliment, but this place is quirky, clean, and exactly what I want from a Chinese restaurant. Plus the food(esp the crab ragoon!) is excellent and the wait staff is friendly.

I’ve been thinking about coming here for a year or more and just kept passing by because the wife was wary of the look of the place. Well, she’s out of town so I took the plunge! Was NOT disappointed! The food was seasoned perfectly and very tasty. It was served family style and gave me a slight reminder of the best Chinese I’ve ever had back in my Homeland — . I very much recommend this place and I will definitely be back!

Upon approaching the front counter I could smell there sink from the back room /kitchen and my wife really wanted to try them, we did and they tasted horrible ! The rice was standing up by itself and the beef and chicken tasted nasty. Needless to say I asked for a refund and was called names asked to leave and on top of that my wife left the food on the curb and the guy runs outside and splatters my car with it… So I’m out $ 15 and a car wash and yes I called the cops and even the cop said I don’t and won’t eat here… Avoid this place unless you want reheated slop from the day before !!!

Great lunch specials at this little hole in the wall! Lots to choose from on their lunch menu. $ 6.75 for General Tso’s Chicken, Fried Rice, and an Eggroll. Not bad. The food was good and our server was super attentive. Our food arrived in lightning speed and in generous portions. Don’t judge a book by it’s cover. There is plenty of intimate seating in the back. We will definitely be back to try their dinner menu sometime soon.

This place is definitely a Knoxville hidden gem! It doesn’t look like much from the outside, but it will pleasantly surprise you! It’s some of be best Chinese food I’ve gotten in Knoxville(been here over four years), and the service is superb!

I have been coming here since I was a child and the food definitely improved. Christine and co. Make amazing food. Favorites: the egg drop and hot and about are amazing. Get the egg drop when you have a cold and you will instantly be healed. They make everything by scratch including the egg rolls and crab rangoons. For lunch get the basil chicken or general tsos For dinner get some noodles. The best mee goreng In town. Pad thai is great too On Sundays get Phở. It’s enough for four people. Please give this place a try!

The only place we go to for Chinese cuisine. The food is always fresh and hot. The egg rolls are stuffed to the brim with flavorful veggies. I am not a fan of eating in to be honest, it is very very quiet in there but don’t pass it up for takeout! The pad Thai is better than Stir Fry Café and enough for 2 to share. I also love their pot stickers. The dough is so soft and tender and the pork is perfectly seasoned. My husband usually gets the beef and broccoli, which is pleasingly more beef than broccoli. The staff is always friendly on the phone and at pick up. A great place!

Location is old and and pretty ugly, but the staff is always nice and understands English very well. The food is a great value and always pretty tasty. I definitely recommend to anyone looking for some cheap, yummy Chinese food. Go between 11:00am and 3:30pm for an extensive and cheap lunch menu!

Came here for lunch after church. I got the Szechuan Chicken and egg drop soup. Both were very yummy. My husband got the Sweet Basil Pork and wonton soup. The Basil Pork was very yummy. The wonton soup was yummy too, but I liked the egg drop soup better. My daughter got the Black Mushroom Beef. The overall dish was good, but none of my family liked the mushrooms(I thought they were good, but the rest of the family didn’t like them.) My youngest daughter for the Shrimp in Lobster Sauce. I thought it sounded like it was going to be really yummy, but we didn’t care for it much. After the shrimp got eaten, the rest of the dish wasn’t good. Overall, it was a good restaurant. I’d go back.

I have been coming here for years, and I must say they have the best Egg Drop Soup, period. I love the laid back atmosphere of the place. The fishy in the entry way is always a pleasure to play with while waiting for seating or for pick up. My favorite dishes are the Egg Drop soup, crab rangoon, Buddhist Delight, and Pad Thai w/tofu. My husband is a fan of the eight treasure, Thai curry chicken, and curry noodles. The price is fantastic for the amount and quality of the food. Good people, good food.

I ordered takeout general tso’s chicken and an egg roll. It seemed a little expensive at $ 10.50. The egg roll was very good but a little smaller than I’m used to. The general tso’s was pretty good. I liked that it didn’t seem to be as fried in such a heavy coating as at many other places. However, the sauce also seemed a little blander and thinner than at other places. The rice is brown rice though which I prefer so that was nice. The fortune cookie also had a hint of vanilla and wasn’t as bland as typical fortune cookies.

Sunday … that is the day to go to Plum Tree. A married couple from Laos bought this restaurant a little over a year ago and have given it much more flavor than in the past. The Phở, which is a Vietnamese noodle soup, is prepared with noodles, herbs(such as cilantro and basil), and served with beef broth and is a great choice. The Phở is typically an entrée style soup, so be careful not to over order. The sweet basil shrimp and the schezuan chicken are other good choices for entrees here. However, note to self that the schezuan is not visually stimulating, but tastes quite good. They also have sweet tea, which is very refreshing! The only thing that I would not order is green curry. The sauce they had for green curry looked more like a watered down pea soup, rather than the creamy green curry it should be. Definitely go visit Plum Tree it is inexpensive and good!
